Q:
Do you think the Thief should get more weapon
I think the only other remotely fitting thief weapons are off-hand torch and sword. I have always been in-favor of off-hand sword/torch for thieves.
My moves are fresh, like my groceries.
#TeamEvonforever
Yes. Considering I also believe all classes should be able to use all weapons, like GW1.
Yeah, things get stale sometimes with our limited weapon options.

No. I do fine with what we have.
I’d rather have a bunch of selectable skills for each existing weapon set.
Would certainly be nice to have a wider range of weapons to choose from. For a class that’s meant to be versatile and slippery using anything they can grab, we don’t have the greatest selections. Dual swords and possibly crossbow could be nice, though I would love to walk around with a greatsword just cause it looks kitten with medium gear, I don’t see how it’d work for a thief (and I have tried very hard to).
Awesome i thought something similar but you answer the question Slicirsis, for a class like the thief we don’t have a lot of weapons and not even unique weapon at that or custom you raise a even bigger thought what if we could take enemy weapon for like 2 seconds a disarm trait that when we steal from a enemy the flee from battle and we wield there weapon but after 15 s we cant use it but the steal last for only 5 sec for them so it make a duplicate what do you think. Its Op thought as it is but you still keep your weapon??any ideas to make this better.

Any weapon works for Thief. Dunno how people get this weird mindset.
A Thief will pick up and use anything they want to as a weapon. People are stuck on this weird generic rogue ideal though and don’t consider logic, nor know/remember how GW1 worked.

No. At the end ppl will stay with 2 diferent sets, and they only will change when anet make another set viable (i mean OP).
Not to mention that i have a Guard, and i hate to have to carry a lot of weapons that i may or may not need them.

I think rifle added to the power tree would be really cool. Give it a daze (or TONS of damage) from stealth, a cripple shot (knee shot), a damaging condition (poison or bleed or torment), a volley (last shot give blind or weakness for 3s or so), and a teleport away.
Would be dope.

I’d love to see s/s for a weapon set with thief, or just have the option to wield only one sword, but give it a a unique set of attack options different from s/d, s/p, and the s/s option if it ever becomes viable. Would be really awesome to have those as weapon choices i think.
I would love to see unarmed combat. Some kick kitten martial arts moves. I would replace my human thief with an Asura one in a heartbeat if it ever occurs.
No. I do fine with what we have.
You don’t want variety?

no. i think it would create even more problems.
Offhand sword
Mainhand mace (sap)
Longbow for a long range option
Those are the only ones I’d like to see.
NO:
Focus, Scepter, Staff – we’re not magic users
Rifle, Warhorn – don’t want to announce my presence with loudness
Torch – don’t want to announce my presence by toting around a flame
Hammer, Greatsword – have a slow feel. Too bulky. We’re all about speed.

/thread.
Longbow and Offhand Sword
And Greatsword. Everyone should use a greatsword.

1st – In GW1 Assassins could have any second profession, so yes, thieves COULD use magic.
2nd – It depends on eachothers playstyle, no one would make you use a loud weapon.
3rd – Again, everyone may have a different playstyle, and a torch can be VERY useful in some of the mini dungeons and Jumping puzzles(Thanks ANet for the Queens Jubilee torch!)
4th – Any class can have any type of build, thieves can be healers if they want, even if they don’t really have the best skills for it. But I’m sure many would like to see Thieves with greatswords, the “agile but fragile” feel of some thieves with a huge sword is amazing, plus having all weapons for all classes(in this case for the thief), would open up so much variety, and make fights much more challenging.
Sure ANet would have to be more careful with balancing etc, but I’m sure it would be possible and fun.
longbow for some long range burst
staff for melee (5 targets) aoe damage + cc (reflective walls, aoe stun, etc etc)
@EragamerLG: Obviously, every profession can be played multiple ways. Personally though, I don’t need to have those weapons for my thief. I’m just saying that a stealthy thief class doesn’t make me think “ooh, rifles and torches and hammers!” And as far as GW assassins using the 2nd profession to wield magic…that’s a dual profession. So the assassin aspect couldn’t, but the mesmer aspect could. So thieves could use magic…if they weren’t just thieves but thief wizards. We’re not in GW2. In GW2 magic stealthy class = mesmer.

Unarmed (or maybe knuckles? fist wepons?) would be SO cool.

The rifle would be ok. Give it 100.000 range and the enemy wont hear it because of the distance.
just kidding. But we use loud pistols… using unload and stuff.
Sneaky hard hitting attacks from the distance would fit the thief way better then that.

They don’t need to dual class to be able to, it’s part of their function to be able to use any weapon.

Deadly Arts in GW1 also consisted of a lot of magic, you could say they were Dark/Shadow magic users. Lotta attacks, hexes/curses and signets that were magic based.
Even Shadow Arts is same as magic. ;/
Some builds would use Staff for high energy just to spam those skills. You didn’t need a secondary class to do that.
More weapons isn’t the answer. Making the current ones actually viable is.
And no, I don’t support this rifle idiocy that’s been circulating for some odd reason.
Well I do. Thieves are the only class without a 1200 range option and I feel that adding in longbow when we already have a shortbow would be a little redundant.
Anyway, I would also like to see a much better Sword/Empty set and perhaps wield the sword as though it was a greatsword.

I’d love to see something done to the empty sets. I’m not sure what though, considering any other profession that only equips a single 1h weapon doesn’t gain any additional benefit. But the sheer fact that we have a seperate #3 skill for our mh weps makes me wish for a #4 & #5, if only to take advantage of those skills. Anet created an empty hand #3 skill that literally nobody will ever use. Maybe make that skill super strong to counter the lack of a #4 & #5?

Why not just buff shortbow….
Because then anet would have to remove the range nerf they put on every shortbow skills set.
Right, which in this case is exactly what they should do. Fix what we have. Not create more, it’s unnecessary.
We need more skills not more weapons.
Each weapon should have atleast 2 sets of skills that we pick and choose which set to load out with.
Example: Dagger main-hand
Set #1: (Double Strike-WildStrike-LotusStrike) + Heartseeker + (TwistingFang-DeathBlossom-ShadowShot)
Set #2: (DisruptingStab-FoxFang-MoebiusStrike) + FallingLotusStrike + (PhoenixStrike-BladesOfSteel-IronPalm)
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
I think thieves should get harvesting sickles. That would be glorious…
(edited by PsyOnic.3108)
I think they should introduce Scythes in the game and Thiefs should be able to dual wield them, they should have a skill called Death Reaper:
Stealth Attack
The Thief comes from the Shadows and instantly kills it’s target. Unblockable.
On a serious note,
I loved the magic elements of assassins in Guild Wars, A/E Aura of Displacement Shock assassin was one of my favourite builds, there were a lot of Deadly Arts builds which felt very “caster like” which was also really cool, if any one remembers it was based around a quick succession of skills like Deadly Toxin + Impale + a couple of attacks and the Thief even used a Staff for the extra energy pool. Both these builds saw some GvG play so it’s not a crazy idea.
Oh also, not to bring the big bad wolf into the picture but who doesn’t remember Double Mace Rogues from WoW ?
True story: I used to play a game called Shadowbane, in which we did siege PvP as a career.
One of the most hilarious builds was the neph greatsword thief. This was a race with a racial greatsword proficiency which could also take the thief class. Thieves were of the old school rogue mode (permastealth) and were controlled by the STR attribute, which also made you character larger the more you put in to it. So this glass build put literally everything in the stealth, which made the character HUGE, and then used racial flight skills to escape a failed gank.
So, basically, what you ended up with was a nine foot tall winged demon-thing that popped out from thin air behind and backstabbed with a greatsword for OMGWTFBBQ damage.
It was hilarious and amazing (not as amazing as the stealth werebear though. Stealthbear was awesome)
My point here is, basically, backstabbing with a greatsword is an amazing thing. GW2 needs some stealth greatsword action with maybe an AoE stealth attack or something.
While we’re at it, all classes should be able to use all weapons in one way or another. I wanna use a scepter as throwing weapon, a staff as a melee beatstick, and a longbow as a personal jump pad

Yes, we need greatswords, longbows, and a sword in secondary. And swords that look like katana’s for greatswords and short swords. Or even all weapons for all professions. Thieves really do need more weapons it’s like we have no defence.

And here is to the point Ty all of the people who answered my question so much thought and tinkering went into this short question that has probably made a theif a little more intresting..
Dual Gauntlets would be awesome
I will go with any weapon set that does not rely on stealth too much.

agreed. would love to see less reliance on stealth.
