Don't you feel helpless in sPVP ?
You can beat some classes in 1v1 but you need to be by far better than your enemy. Given same skill level, you won’t win 1v1. reason? Well Anet still thinks thieves have that 1+ role (that is filled by revs just as good) thanks to sb 5 so they don’t deserve to be able to win 1v1 fights vs equally skilled players (once again completely moronic reasoning given that revs exist).

The more I climb up in rank, the more I agree with you. People at higher rank do know how to sustain.
That’s what Thief is, and probably will keep being until a new elite spec for it is created.
It doesn’t make us a bad class, but it’s a very specific role.
We have the strongest +1 ability in the game, so it’s not like we don’t have impact. Thief is remakable at ending small fights quickly and being where the team needs it to be all the time. We’re also the best class at just being able to never die, which can be very annoying to the enemy team because you’re never safe from the thief decapping / +1 you anywhere.
We’re not alone having identity issues tho, Elementalists are being locked into supporty/healer roles exclusively for example.
If you want to play something that fights more but feels similar to the thief of old, you have to play Shiro Revenant now.

You are right there, but again a Rev can almost do the same, except there are few match ups he wouldn’t take.
In my opinion I see very few incentive to force pro pteam to pick a thief as long as a Rev can provide just a bit less, except his firepower and solo ganking ability is far superior, as I see it
Edit : By the way, the Top 1 team in EU for now is called “Now Without Thief”. I’m gonna cry right over there
Well, you might see thieves only because proteams won’t be allowed to have 2 of the same class anymore, so that Fith slot after Rev Scrapper Tempest Necro is up int the air between Mesmer, Druid and Thief now.

Get Gud? I can 1v1 any class except engi, DH and Druid. I’m season 1 legendary so don’t say I didn’t face people of similar skill level. Heck even now I can 1v1 a lot of classes who are legendary. The class you should be 1v1 easily are Necros, other teefs, Warriors and mesmers. I can kill ele essily too but takes a while so I usually avoid, revs are 50/50. DH I avoid. Druid and engi I can poke around and run away if I feel they’ll kill me.

Would you make some videos of your kills ?
Seriously I’d like to know how and how long you do it.
I have to say, I’ve been able to 1v1 many classes as well. I find DH and scrappers hardest of course, but revs, necros, thieves, some druids, mesmers, haven’t been too tough. Eles are so so for me. Maybe I’m consistently fighting people less skilled than me. I’m not super serious about it, and I’m only emerald right now. I also run a acro, trick, DD staff build which is a little more bruiser than the norm, so it can take me a bit longer. I feel more useful in a team fight though because I can sustain decently.
tips: never go to the middle of the fight always pick well your target if in danger being focuse just stealth and shadow step away.
1v1 you can beat necro, warrior, mesmer ele, ranger, stay away from dh and scrapers same skill lvl you will 50-50 fights

As a general rule stay way from Guardians, Engineers, Rangers, Revenants, Elementalists, and Necromancers. You can fight other thiefs, or mesmers.

I’d really love a vid as well. It’d really help us other thieves out who are struggling.
<Anotherone of those thieves who believes he can beat most players in 1v1. I almost entirely run evasion focussed builds (d/d or s/d) and im willingly crippling my ability to +1. (Its still possible, just much less effective, especially since im spending a lot of time fighting my own fights instead of saving someone’s kitten
Bad players are a snack, exept for guards. Some of the others can be challenging, but constant condi removal, high evasive uptime, good healing, good stunbreak and decent damage. There is not much to do against it. Only way to win is if they can tank all my damage (and there is quite a couple who can) and slowly but steadily kill me.
Not really the intention of the thief class, but still more satisfieng than +1ing.
Regardless: The point I actually came to make was this: I feel helpless on any class but thief tbh. Even if I was in a situation where i could never win any 1v1, I still have so much more control over what happens to me than I have with any other class.
I can always pick my opponent and my battlefield. I can always choose to disengage and will escape successfully. I can always decide if I want to fight or to cap. As long as my opponent falls for it, I can kite forever, whilst other classes will eventually get chased down and die at some point.
To be more specific: If im playing my druid:
1. I mostly have to go to mid, or wherever the action is, since my strenght lies in teamfights. I can not just leave mid if im starting to see that we are loosing, I have to keep fighting, to try and win or at least distract them. On a thief i can just rush of, decap far and return when my team has respawned.
2. there are matchups I know i cant win. I just have to try and hope that they will not kill me before reinforcements arrive. As a thief, i could just go and cap onther point, and then get back and recap this one too. Or i can turn 2v1s against them by turning them into an infinite chasing game and giving my team the upper hand in all other fights.
3. If I get stunlocked on my druid, I can only stand there, take it and eventually die. As soon as they truly focus me in a teamfight, its over. As a thief I can just disappear, stealth or shadowstep, leaving the enemy team wasting key skills on a target, that just ran of before it died and will return 10 seconds later, when back at full health.
So yeah, in conclusion: As flawed as the class may be compared to ‘meta’ fighting classes, it at least lets you control your own fate. I die, my fault, should have ran away sooner. You will never die to random bullkitten unless you allow it. And if you die to a highly skilled enemy who turned your weakness against you: where is the problem with that?
thief should beat necro, warrior 1v1.
+1 roll for thief, but rev can do it better
The problem with thief being able to beat necro’s is that you cannot hold/cap/decap a point while doing that. Which means your win is futile in most situations..

fear + immobilize and you will be able to decap

because necro clearly doesn’t have enough instant condi transfers….
