I was watching Donatello’s gameplay trailer for the coming TMNT game and I couldn’t stop thinking that many of those skills woud look great on a melee Staff Thief:

Some of them wouldn’t fit (specially the ones where he interacts with opponent bodies which this game doesn’t support), but most of them would look great here.

I’ve always been a supporter of staff Thief. I always said that current professions with aditional weapons and utility families would cover most existing holes without needing to create new professions with all the balancing issues (my favorite example is giving the Ranger a staff with nature spells, and with already a Nature Magic trait line, bond with animals as profession mechanic, being able to summon spirits of nature and multiple utilities using nature forces to summon springs, lightning and vines you have a Druid without adding a whole new profession for that).

The same way the Axe is used as a melee weapon by Warrior, ranged throwable weapon by Ranger and as a magical totem to summon spells by Necromancer, or the same way the Mesmer uses a Greatsword as a magical bazooka, a Thief could perfectly use a staff as a martial melee weapon.

There are multiple Thieves characters in different stories that use staves in combat (Gambit from the X-Men for example), and not all fighting staves need to be bo staves, some of them use a heavier heads so they have more hitting power (like a light hammer) and if you look at most staves in this game, they could be used for smashing without looking bad (plus the scythe looking staves would look great used as melee weapon and bring Dervish memories back).

I saw this video and I remembered all that stuff again. It would be really cool if the Thief could do that

Plus 2 handed weapons are the best to balance on the initiative system in the sense that as they’re balanced around themselves (without thinking about possible main and offhand combinations), all skills are usable instead of getting sets with 5-1-1 or 3333 sequences. Ask the Shortbow, everything has its purposse there (#2 is the best combo finisher + shotgun if you want to dps mobs, #3 is “oh crap let’s get out of those red circles without wasting stamina”, #4 is area poison AND with a cheap trait area maintainable Weakness for group protection and #5 is a really useful traveling tool). It may not be the best set (but it’s definitely the best complementary set for all the utility it brings) but you can see as it’s a 2 handed weapon everything fits perfectly there. 2 handed weapons on the Thief are great for balancing so a well done Staff could be a great adition. Rifle Thief would be great too for that reason

I swear to god I thought about this a couple weeks ago. A staff thief that hits multiple times in quick successions. I say the out of stealth attack should be a short knockdown. and the 3 ability be a 10 hit combo for a base 500 damage each hit. The auto attack should be really fast but lower damage this would make signet of malice viable. 2 ability should be a leap attack. And 4 should be an ankle attack that cripples. 5 should be a stealth maneuver that doesn’t require you to hit anything( lots of initiative here).

The class master. I enjoy all of the professions.

That sounds awesome until you fight a mob or player with retaliation and then your 10hit combo suddenly does 3k+ damage to yourself.
