So i’ve encountered a few thieves today which seem to stealth every 2 sec then re-appear hit you stealth again.

He didn’t do all that great damage but eventually he’d win because there’s no way I could get him he shortbows away stealth pretty much 90% of the time.

I couldn’t remember thieves could stealth so MUCH is it a specific build because I like to know seems fun he was continuously fighting 1v5 not dying ;/

Dagger off-hand stealthes for 3s on hit at the cost of 6 initiative. With Shadow Arts V the cost is reduced to 4 initiatives. With further traiting in Shadow Arts, you can increase initiative regen while stealthed. So it is easy to maintain perma stealth if timed right.

its heavy in initiative and gaining initiative when you stealth, and gaining it faster in stealth, and various other things.

its a trash build for anything but being a total kitten and having to get at least 15 coordinated people chaining every single control skill to stop them. god help the 15 people if they zerg a pve mob and rez the thief.

its a obvious broken exploit that anet won’t fix until its absolutely the last thing to fix.

Nobody said anything about standing still and fight. Stealthing is oke but every 2 sec. is just not balanced at all.

Just as that Koroshi vid all he did was continuously hit skill 5 to do little damage and stealth and he could get this guy in a whole zerg. That’s not how it’s ment to be imo lol.

I’ll check the traits out ye this seems quite abusable.

just spam blocks/blinds/dazes and laugh, as he runs out of initiative and has to burn his utility cooldowns to gain distance.
If he engages again, while they are in cooldown, just block/daze/blind through his CnD attempt and kill him. If he doesn’t , simply move along and do something useful. It’s not like he can kill you.
If you got neither blinds/blocks/dazes nor heavy duty hitters(earthquake, earthshaker, big fire fields, whatever), it might be a problem with your build.
Also, a single thief simply can not stomp a guy out of a big group without that group letting him have his way. When he downs someone, just go and rezz the guy. Unless your group is a bunch of morons, there’s no way, he will get the kill.

The only crime, turrets committed, is being good against the celestial meta.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.

Think you don’t realize that most of the people/pugs in WvW are terrible players that don’t know other classes besides their own and have no idea how to fight certain classes and either don’t ress at all or have no idea person get’s stealth stomped etc

Oh yeah, I forgot, if he is REALLY annoying you, just drop a stealth detection trap.
If he triggers it, he’s dead.

oh im sorry is being a god of wvw not enough for you? would you rather be able to distract 30 people instead of 15 just to kill you if you do manage to get revealed.
or would you rather backstab insta down anybody regardless of armor? lets not add in the fact you can move 1800+ in just 2 seconds thats just not enough.

don’t try to hide it perma stealth is an obvious exploit of a broken mechanic, they just don’t wanna deal with the uproar if they actually fixed stealth.

You say its not meant to be that way (despite having been that way since beta, except we didnt always have revealed so it was even easier), then you say its abuse. Is that clear enough for you? Classes should never be nerfed or balanced based on bad players, balance should always be at the highest level of play

Any player can get better, all it takes is practice and knowledge. Balancing a game around trash players who don’t want to practice and don’t want to learn is just a bad idea. If the game was balanced around the mid level of play, the professions that were good were good at low levels might be trash when the player gets better. Might be the other way around too. It might even lower the skill cap on all classes, making it so players would have less and less to work towards while playing. Sounds boring to me.

not mid.
Let’s say, around 80% of the total skill ladder should be a good cut.
Anything lower than that will make the game mediocre and boring, anything more than that will be a pain in the behind for the developers and completely random at times.

Seriously, why do people think it takes skill to be completely invisible to everyone around you while having complete control over the flow of combat at any given moment? Any random can Pistol 5 + Dagger 2 and occupy 5+ people for a while and it is the same with the lame Dagger 5 on the back.

It is a broken game mechanic that is being defended by trolls who do not want to let it go so progress can be made to actually make the Thief class useful.

Just look at the other super cheese build, Massive Evades. The Thief as a profession has a lot of different avenues to take but they will never see the light of day due to stealth and how the Thief is pushed towards this broken game mechanic.

Bottom line: Stealth in Guild Wars 2 is horribly designed and should be reworked, but never will be.

ranged instant dazes/stuns, shadowsteps, certain wall types, knockback bubbles, knockback skills, fear marks, …
All you need to do is interrupt the thief during his first heartseeker or make him hit you when he leaps back into the smoke field and he dies.
Also, there is still stealth disruption traps.
