Just curious if anyone ever uses it. I feel like it could have some really cool potential, as it’s basically the best gap-closer in the game. The only bad part is that you have to trade either bountiful theft or thrill of the crime :/

It’s not really worth it in my opinion. Thrill of the crime/bountiful theft is way too important if you are investing in Trickery. If you want that much of a gap closer, just use Infil signet + steal. xD

I would if I could have fury elsewhere. That is the sole reason I use the trait and it is too good of a boon to pass up and not easy enough to get on the class in general.

Ever used? Yes. It’s quite nice actually. But, as others have said, the fury to self and allies from Thrill of the Crime, boon rip and vigor to self and allies from Bountiful Theft, and the daze and reduced cooldown on Steal from Sleight of Hand are all better.

Yes it very useful in a p/d build as a gap closer or in a build that already has a high crit rate.

P/d has little use for Fury. The might from thrill of the crime does not add a lot in the way of damage to ones conditions. With Long Reach you can instantly reach a ranger at 1500 range and lay down all of those conditions from your steal. This often out of range of any ally so the boons added to an ally do little.

In a high crit build fury is not as important if one has another source and for the same reasons above this a great gap closer. IE if ones crit rate already 70 percent base, long reach makes more sense.

If I was a power build with a normal crit rate of 40 or 50 percent I would stick to thrill of the crime unless there other sources of fury such as out of the CS line or a runeset that provided it .

In my high crit p/p set I have used it as one of my few escapes that available to get out of trouble by locking on to a critter on a wvw map as my target and getting out of dodge quickly.

Fury is tasty but I prefer long reach. Quite a lot of my roaming friends have pack runes (me too) and with 2 people with pack runes in party, there is usually no need for other fury source.

Only time I ever found outstanding use from it was for the 8 orb Liadri Achievement to break her pull orbs with Mug instantly when they spawned, regardless of where they were. Other than that I never really used it~ the other traits are too good better.

I use it, but not in combat. Mainly just for traveling and evading mobs.

i can’t stand NOT having long reach. it always helps me get the jump on people and it helps me catch up with shadow step>steal. its basically like having a 2400 reach steal.

thrill of the crime is decent but with the up coming nerf to might, it isn’t going to be very great. yes it also gives fury and swiftness, but as a condi thief, fury isn’t important.

as for swiftness, i’ve become really good at using signet of shadows so the extra swiftness from totc is useless.

also, i recently discovered that using blinding powder isn’t so important and i prefer using hidden thief so i don’t have to waste 5 initiative doing CnC>Steal. it’s made me a much more efficient duelist

Condi thieves don’t really need any traits except uncatchable anyways, though. Beyond that everything else is just extra.

I use it from time to time. When I’m running stealth with steal, I like it. Increases the range of my stealth.

But like everyone else, there are more traits with better utilities/support that I prefer.

It’s an incredibly good gap closer especially against Rangers, depends if you need Bountiful Theft or Thrill of Crime really.

I use it 20% of the time but more and more now that I’ve gotten another zerker set. I have travelers set in inventory. New set has pack runes. It has comparable uptime to thrill. I use it with 26006, and 50036. Good stuff.
Hangs around 70% crit without the fury and around 15k hp in the crit strikes build with practiced tolerance and more from guard stacks.

I find that with long reach, unless a longbow power ranger is very quick, he’s down as quick as rf would down me.

Another good one is sw2>shadowstep>inf signet>swap to DD set with intelligence and air>steal cnd > backstab. Have devourer or bv up and it’s almost a guaranteed down on anything else zerker. It… It is just so much distance. The game is down in time for return.

I run it all the time in WvW. Highly recommend you take it for a spin while roaming if you’ve only ever used it in pvp, because it basically guarantees that your targets won’t see your opener coming. Also allows you to disengage from basically anybody with one button press given you run towards a pack of ambients. As a secondary benefit it becomes super duper highly reliable, because the long base range gives it more room to path around rocks and stuff.

You can also play three signet 6/6/0/0/2 with sword on swap and blow the kitten out of people from 4200 range.

That’s about as far as portal range. It’s hilarious

Used it while playing competitively with my team prior to many of the nerfs. You could easily teleport from Close to Far if your ally targets an opponent on the point you aren’t. “Sword #2, shadowstep, infiltrator’s signet and steal”

Might seem a bit of waste to use so many skills just for movement. But remember that it was prior to nerfs so it was basically a teleport from close to far in less than 2 seconds and creates a 2v1 fight with a gank gc thief. With stability rip on steal and S/P you would be able to stun him before he even noticed a new player. This hopefully created a window for your ally and you to finish him before your shadow returns are gone so you can move back to the first point halfway with them.

Most of the time we would have Close and far while our double bunker team would sit on mid keeping it contested. But that’s a long time ago now when AoE spam wouldn’t instantly kill me.
