Ok, so I’ve been playing this game for a little while now. Not since release, but maybe a few months now.

I have done one “finisher” once. It was when I was level 15 and killing some random npc. I think it was the death blossom finisher.

Since then, AFAIK, I have never done a “finisher”.

What exactly are finishers and how do you execute them?

Doing a move through a combo field. LDB is a whirl finisher…

Finishers have different effects depending on the field you use them in. They do things like give enemies conditions, buff allies, or deal extra damage. For example, doing LDB through a dark field (like Shadow refuge of a Necro’s wells) will steal life from enemies you hit, if you do it through an Ele’s fire field it will set things on fire.

Heartseeker is also a Combo Finisher, as is Clusterbomb.

Use them in combination with other people’s Combo fields to gain certain effects.

So, how do I know what is a combo field?

If I find this mysterious combo field and I hit the 2 or 3 for HS or DB, do I automatically do a finisher?

I’m pretty sure I’ve spammed HS or DB in some friendly AOE in all the hours I’ve played and I’ve never seen my thief do anything special.

you can read the tool tips and itll let you know, and also (not sure if you have to turn an option on) if your standing in it or shoothing/attacking through it, depending, itll have some floating text on you or the target i.e; stealing life, remove condition, burning.

Either play other classes or look at the wiki for which skills are combo fields.

Some common ones are feedback or nullfield from mesmer, heartseeker through it for chaos armor, use shortbow cluster bomb for aoe chaos armor or deathblossom/dagger storm for chaos bolts. P/d auto attack and sneak attack are also projectile finishers.

Another obvious one to do the same thing in is Ele’s fire ring. HS for fire shield, cluster bomb for aoe might, whirl finishers for fire bolts.

You have some utilities with combo fields you can utilize for stealth and aoe stealth.

You can also steal from an engineer for throw gunk which is an etheral field and can be treated the same as the mesmer fields.

Just some examples there are tons more.
