Finishing off attempts should break stealth
If you are downed, you are normally dead afterwards so it wouldn’t matter either way.

a thief jumps on a guy, downs him, suddenly aoe stealth field and you can’t stop him from finishing off your ally. I mean what counterplay is there to that?

Actually its very different. Mist form and Endure pain+stability makes user invulnerable to everything. Stealth only makes thief invisible.
For OP… And what will you do if thief is stomping your friend without stealth? Well do the same when hes stealthed = same results.

There are several ways to counter this
Predict where the thief will be and CC or knockback
Use a ring to stop them for a while (guardians)
Counter with your own stealth
Rez faster, lol
Banner or Other res ability
Kill the thief first? Usually that’s a good idea since they CAN stealth finish, stealth rez, and overall be annoying to fight.

This is all the fun in playing thief and adds strategy to the down state. I love downing people in stealth, I can only imagine the shock their team mates feel when trying to res. Brings me joy.

My Necro Staff #5 doesn’t care about a thief trying to stealth stomp. Funny story actually, was in Skyhammer and this thief kept trying to Scorpion Wire me into a hole. Well he kept failing and was getting low on health so he blew his Shadow Refuge. Out of instinct I just started dropping marks in the area and the fear mark hits him, sends him out of his Shadow Refuge, and down one of the holes to his death. Lol
Stealth rez and stealth finish can be easily countered by just CC’in their spot. S/P pistolwhips is great since you can repeat it. Just remember where the original downed person is and try to hit his periphere with it after the first CC. Chances are the thief will go to the other side and try to revive there and make you waste your cc on the downed body.
Then again, if you’re a warrior or something with AoE stuns, you can just aim at the location and laugh.

“Countering” the thieves stealth stomp depends completely on the amount of people trying to oppose. I play a thief and can tell you straight that if I am fighting 3 or less and I get one down, there is nothing to stop me from finishing. This is because of my blind on stealth. If however there are a few people then AoE/cc will “counter” it easily

Actually this is untrue, have you ever tried to shadowstep out of a guardians hammer 5? It won’t let you do it without knocking you down, correct? Same thing applies if he were to ring you and you shadowstep returned. Line of warding works, along with countless other control effects over the downed player.

He can break the blind with condi cleanse or attacking you once before you shadowstep.
Also, even if you blind him once and he doesn’t do anything to cleanse it, you’ll only be able to shadowstep past the line once. Therefore, your stomp will be interrupted on your return.

There are so many other ways of stomping players that stealth isnt your only issue. teleport stomping, blind stomping and stability stomping will do the job just as fine. If you get stomped while a thief is stealthed and you have players nearby you its their mistake for not realizing the danger a thief poses on a downed players. Then again, Mesmers are just as dangerous when it comes to stomping
Applying stealth to the downed teammate counters any stomp and most classes have an ability to stealth a teammate. That being said, OP this thread topic was brought up a lot in the first 6 months of the game and it was thoroughly shown that it is in no way unfair compared to mechanics available to every class. Plus it is very counterable, so learn those counters and stop trying to get others unfairly nerfed.

A stomp doesn’t count as an attack because you’re not doing damage, the mechanic is different.
Mesmer can also finish in stealth. Ele can finish with mist form and be completely invulnerable to damage and CC which stops friendlies from even helping you if they’re not fast enough to raise, same with Engi and so on.
This is not a thief issue.
About invis + shadowstep stomping, it can be countered by:
-necro staff 5 on the downed body
-making the downed player invis
-throwing a banner before the stomp can finish
If you want to guarantee a stomp, you probably need a mesmer and a ranger. Ranger applies revealed with sick’em, mesmer drops time warp and goes quickness invul stomp with a blink on the hotbar.

double blink stomp? check.
blind stomp? check. Coupled with invis on prestige.
quickness stomp? while impractical, still, check.

Stealth threads literally pop up everywere, some players ask me how I was able to see them while they were in stealth.
The Answer? I didn’t…
Thief =/= gone when stealthed. You can count the stomp time and use your downed skill accordingly.
I had a lot of situations where the players on the ground were screaming for a rez while I was pulling off Pistol Whips on top of their bodies. Just because I knew there was a thief there. And I was the only one around that could stop him from stomping.
Don’t go spammin’ pistol whip…

how unfair is it that eles can use mist form, engineers can also use invulnerability, so can mesmers, and warriors and guardians can just tank through it?
