Funny comments regarding HS
I get called coward every time I stealth (P/D). Some people just like to complain and try to ruin other peoples day. I should call the next Mesmer I fight something when I see his first Illusion come out…

That’s a HS noob.
We have a spammable gap closer that regularly crits between ~6-8k when the target is at low health. I have hit (and been hit) with 3 or 4 chained mega crit heartseekers that took a fight from equal to me instantly dead. Traited and at full initiative we can SPAM 5 heartseekers in a row. We all know that if we’re in a 1v1 and it starts to seem like we’re going to lose, all we have to do is spam HS and we’ll usually win. It’s an idiot mechanic. Between steal, shadow signet, infiltrators arrow, infiltrators signet, scorpion wire, shadow step, drake/skale and basilisk venom, dancing dagger, swiftness on dodge (depending on build), caltrops and thieves guild, any build with a dagger mainhand has MORE than enough methods of slowing their target and closing the gap without a spammable gap closer with an extremely high damage output.
I say they take away the leap option, up the initiative cost to 4, make it only activate when the target reaches 50% health and THEN let it crit for 8k. That’s still ~24k potential damage at someone with most likely less than 13k health.
Anyone who denies the fact that when losing, resorting to HS spam gives you the win, is full of it. It’s an easy out for bad players who can’t figure out any other method after they blow their cnd > steal > bs rotation, and why should they when HS spam is so stupidly effective?
I cant blame you for using the skill when its supposed to be used. But I can blame arenanet for making this skill and not considering potential abuse of it.

Mhm 8k HS? Sounds to me like extreme glass canon… And i think competent players can deal with glass canons fairly easy (I do). Just to add my biggest crit from HS was 4,5k (+/-200).
Sure going haste, HS spam deals loads of dmg, but hey everybody sees it, all you need to do is make him/her regret that she/he made that move (black powder work wonders here).
We don’t have highest DPS, we can’t stealth whole time, we don’t have best mobility.
Please go back where you came from.

I would not mind being able to have a different attack skill that I could change depending upon the build. Would love to have another bleed attack for a D/D condition build set.

This. I’d love deathblossom and dancing dagger to be useful.
If someone is at 40% and you’re revealed, you only have 3 options, heartseeker twice, auto-attack chain and then heartseeker, or auto attack chain C&D and backstab (which any opponent with fingers would dodge).
But yea, heartseeker is over the top as it is now. Maybe it should get a cooldown, so you can still finish off players that are below 25%, but you’d have to time it right.

100%-25%—> the damage of the present 100%-50% range
25%-0%—>no change.

That’s some constructive thinking.
For Dancing Dagger I propose to buff the 1st hit back to pre-nerf damage, the first bounce to 50% of that, the 2nd bounce to 25% and let the last one only cripples without dealing damage.
Mug could be changed to be a knockdown that deals 0 damage.
Reducing the cost to 3 initiative would also help in making it a viable choice to use over heartseeker, but that’s probably asking too much.

Most skills that are complained about are quite easily countered.
If you can’t counter skills like HS or the old 2-3 shot back stab thief you are simply doing it wrong (here come the accusations of the old troll maneuver – I am being serious).
If you can’t work out counters, look around on youtube or ask for constructive criticism on the way you play. The be all end all is most complaints should be directed at the one mindedness of players and their inability to adapt.

The only problem with nerfing the mug side of the damage is that for S/D, sometimes you need that little extra damage on the end to burst them down. If they buffed the CnD side of it again, people would start to complain that stealth is still to easily accessable andit deals real damage again. Better to leave the damage on the once every 45 second side. I would like to see the DD initiative cost reduced by 1 if damage is to stay as is. AN would then basically making the statement that offhand dagger is utility.
Nerfing mug means nerfing many possible thief builds across the board, it shouldn’t even be discussed.
Hs spawn is not enough to win an fight.
Consider that at 60% critical rate you got high chance to crit 2 out of 4 hs or max 3 out of 4. Out of 4 hs 2 can easy be dodged also.
So you got chance to output arround 12 -14 k damage on an glass cannon and arround 7-9 k on an defensive build (medium armor).
I’ve got 18k hp 2700 defence on my thief.- usualy -steal – C&D – bs combo take my hp down to 3000 -5000- but hs combo won’t take my hp under 8000, and gives me time to react and heal myself. So i do not consider Hs spam viable

How about when you’re fighting someone else and a thief runs up and spams HS? You’re going to somehow, with your at max 2 dodges, avoid up to 5 heartseekers in a row while also fighting someone else?
Clearly a 1v1 that turns into a 1v2, odds are you’re going to lose, but it’s extremely possible winning 1v2 fights. Unless a thief shows up and says, “Meh, I’ll just end this really quick and spam 5 HS because I’m at full initiative and he’s at 40% health. I don’t even need to pretend to use any semblance of a skill rotation because the game design has allowed #2 spam to be just as viable.”
Like I said, it doesn’t need a gap closer. Thieves have a ridiculous amount of slowing and gap closing options where they don’t need another one, that they can spam, that does that much damage. Either drop the damage and keep the leap or drop the leap and keep the damage.
If their 40% you could kill them in fractions of time with other skills then landing 5 heartseekers, and have plenty of initiative left over to actually be useful because its 2V1!!!!

I’m pretty sure he came from Aion, where he complained continuously about the Ranger class being weak (the class he played, which was ridiculously OP in reality).
If he’s the same one I’m thinking of, he’s fairly clueless and wants easy mode for himself. He also knows only to “troll” (tries very hard at it too), and argues nonsensically with any kind of claim he can come up with, even if it’s untrue…like in this case as you pointed out.
