Gear for condition theif?
for the most part, yes. precision helps other professions condition build far more, since some get bleed on crit through traits. it gets better at higher levels when you can get carrion, which has condition damage/power/vitality. carrion gear was pretty much made with condition thieves in mind.

You can also try rampager gear (power/precision/condition) depending on what you plan to fight. It’s less defensive and a hybrid between a crit build and condition build. Since precision is the primary attribute on the armor set, lifesteal food (66% chance to steal 320 health when you crit) makes up for the loss of defenses. Compared to Carrion armor, your damage per hit would go up from crits, but your condition damage wouldn’t be as good. Condition damage is the primary attribute of Carrion armor.
I wouldn’t suggest this for pvp or wvw though. You’d be too squishy and burst damage from players would be too much to handle effectively. I could be wrong though I’ve never tried it.
I’m actually considering it though, especially for a PVE set.
Isn’t precision almost useless for a condition theif?
Yes, it is. Unless you also go deep into power, precision and critical damage and there isn’t enough gear to cover them all.
Carrion gear does not give precision though.
