[TSP] The Shadow Phantoms – Guild master
Gunnar’s Hold
Engineer has stealth and 2 reveals… why cant a thief master of stealth arts not spot enemy targets that are stealth…
Would it not make sense that thief had a reveal ability?
Would make thief vs thief fights more interesting too, and give us a shimmer of hope against engineers/scrappers and some stealth mesmers.
just wondering.
Or, what they should have done, make thief immune to reveal.
Thief has reveal — albeit it is self-inflicted
How about just take away those cheap reveals from engineer and revenant? They are absolutely unnecessary, only creating power creep.

I’d keep them but the require some tuning. Detection Pulse needs to start the animation earlier. The engineer only raises his hand at the end of the cast. So it can only be random-dodged. It has a low CD and high range.
Revenant reveal is fine even though it is instant because it has a short range. However, this not only reveals stealthed foes but also puts reveal preamptively(which i dont agree with), removing any stealth counterplay against their Unrelenting Assault.
Yea, reveal isn’t needed. You can counter any other class in stealth by just sitting in stealth longer. Sneak gyro’s the one exception, but you can pretty much see where they are with that thing anyways and you can still counter by using shortbow and deflecting shots off the gyro to hit the scrapper.
No need to fix what’s not broken.

Came here looking for this comment.

I would exactly call stealthing in retaliation to someone else stealthing as a “counter”. Because then it becomes more of a game of “who can stealth longer” instead of counter-play.
I guess it would make sense thematically, but we already counter the other stealth users (shatter mesmers, LB rangers, even engineers with Elixir S). The only real problem with stealth is Sneak Gyro, but that elite is broken and is already getting a nerf. It will probably need a second nerf (like giving it a 1/4s cast time). So, cool idea, but I don’t think we need to make thief the only viable stealth user, especially since shatter will probably return to being the only semi-viable mesmer build.
instead of a reveal, a trait to see stealthed players while you are in stealth would be cool.

I guess that would make thief vs thief duels more fast paced, but with it we would completely destroy shatter mesmers, while the match-up is already heavily unfavorable for them. Since it’s one of the only duels in the game I actually enjoy (on either side), I would not like your idea to be implemented.
Hostile reveal should have never been a thing. Reveal was designed as a balance for repeated stealth attacks. Those skills should all be changed to an effect that allows the user to see stealthers. Countering stealth should be a defensive buff, not an offensive debuff. When it’s offensive it too heavily disadvantages the stealther, as his stealth is now countered for everyone, rather than just the anti-stealther and it doesn’t adequately serve the function its desigend for in the first place: preventing suprise attacks.
