I think in the mug nerf went something wrong from with the dmg coefficients.
I never hitted with mug an non crit under 2k, but now after the nerf my mug hits für 1400 +- some dmg
Ps: lowes mug hit is now at 1138 yeah, max dmg was 1975
No. Their approach is right. Thief burst was too good and everything else wasn’t good enough, which created skewed, pigeon-holing game play. Burst needs to brought down, mobility, attrition and utility need to be brought up.
While this patch should have had more, especially more buffs for Pistols, they have the right idea.
Ok we arent supposed to burst anymore, but mesmers are allowed to shatter the kitten out of your head…sounds plausible!
Edit: The most builds this hurts, are the builds who put some points into def traits and mug allowed them to get some little burst. If you want to burst now, you have to go GC everything else is just more sustain than burst

Mesmer confusion was nerfed harder than Thief burst. They are looking at builds that are so good they make it the only viable way to play the class and bringing those down to match other builds. It’s the right approach conceptually, even if they don’t always get the details right.
Confusion =/= Shatter, i talk about the instant dmg not the confusion

Ok after some hours testing a little bit in spvp i can tell that mug is our new healingability in our damage trait line
Mug deals damage between 1100 and 2100 in whichever state the enemy is.
My min dmg was 1121 and max was 2090.
But the healing part always hits between 1980 and 2450 for me.
I play 10/30/0/15/15 and pre patch i could duel anything and zergs weren’t problems either.
Mug is now a new healing trait and nothing more, if you would see that as a new player you would think they added dmg to the healing!!
That mug as GC was OP is right, but they could lowered it in other ways.
A few minutes ago i was killed by a thief, i looked at the mug dmg it stated 1327.
And that is laughable
A guilty pleasure of mine. I liked to pretend that Mug was a really fast Hidden Blade attack to finish people. All gone now~

S/d i have b een playing for many many months. its has always been fun LS didnt change this. but s/d is the hardest (next to ele spam every skill in the world build) to play.

Dude… Cloak and Dagger is now affected by Hidden Killer. If you think about it, that’s a lot of burst especially since we can spam Cloak and Dagger on a target to stay in stealth.

Honestly, I feel like you are all being a bit ridiculous.
The only profession I’ve really been playing recently is my thief. Even with 0 damage from mug – just using it as a gap closer and for the nicer steal skills, we have incredibly high burst.
The second I ‘discovered’ mug (I had been playing without it, and was fine). I instantly felt like it was OP. It’s an instant 4-6k+ damage and gap closer. Before finding it I could down a player in seconds – but it was fair because they had time to respond as I sequenced my skills. Mug is just gravy – and ridiculous.
Not to mention it was only a 10 point trait…
Thieves relying on mug were being spoiled. The nerf could’ve been alot worse. They did not have to give us the heal on it, and it would have been fine, to be honest. Mug is still insanely good. You don’t need to use mug to initiate fights either. With stealth, and gap closer on swords and daggers, it is not hard to engage. The heal just means that for melee thieves, you can have a later fight and longer range gap closer that will make you slightly safer.
Even if you still just want to use it to initiate/damage, it is fine. It will get you right where you need to be. 1-2k damage is still very helpful.
The difference in damage is a fraction of one heartseeker, seriously.
Maybe some people will take a trait other than mug now too. Build diversity is a good thing.
lemme ask you this mushrooms. would u rather have steal? or any other F mechanic from any other class. i could name 7 other sets of F mechanics that are better and i would rather have. :P just sayin….mug was the only thing that made our F mechanics on par with everyone elses.

I agree that our F-mechanic is a bit boring. But I disagree that it isn’t on par. It isn’t versatile like others, but in terms of raw tear-kitten-up ability, Mug certainly is not weak.
Not to mention some of our steals are very powerful. Plasma-buffs, the one that causes fear, the axe spin – are three examples of some high power steals. Alot of the other ones are not too bad either.
So, ya it could be improved. But it’s not terrible. It is still very powerful with mug. I will agree I dislike how thieves are almost forced to take mug or other steal-based traits to make seem useful to them… but that is an issue unrelated to mug. Mug is still great, and our burst is still great.

Do you only use CND for stealth? If you do, then you’re limiting yourself.
what do u mean? yeah i use CND in one of my builds alot. not everyone. why would it be limiting? the build runs around it.

I don`t care for/can`t mentally map out combos in a fraction of a second. Not with the class with lowest survivability (despite our just GRAND mobility). Not when a mesmer shatters u in 2-3 sec (seriously happened), and not when necros can just…tank you. I bet you don`t even play thief but rather u played something else so badly that u couldn`t use ur stun breaker on time and u howled nerf on forums. I hope you`re happy now, thief IS useless.
Well mug in isolation was pretty op, but i think it was also the only thing holding up full glass cannon thief as a viable build. So… mission accomplished for anet?
If they buff thief base damage like they said, things will probably even out. With the trick shot change it seems like venoms, bunker killer, and d/p duel spec are what’s left for spvp

Sadly they won’t do any balance changes next month as they said in the stat of the game, but personally I’d like it if they added +5% damage per hit on Assassin Signet’s 5 hits for a total of 25% extra damage to give us at least a part of our burst back.

well said. thieves dont complain bc we had a strength to accompany our weakness. i wonder if anet can see the % of each class in wvw on average at all times. i think they woudl be astonished. i gotta say i see 1 thief every 15 or so players :/ maybe even less….wonder why

spelling is non indicative of intellect, more appropriately its typing rather than spelling bc mine is superb. a single mug nerf doesnt ruin all burst, but it DOES make it dip under the level of usability ….between dmg out put vs incoming dmg minus healing in the same interval of time. you …as a thief….can now receive the same dmg if not more from warriors/mesmers even when in highest burst dmg form.
