I’ve been experimenting with offhands for D/D weaponset, standard 2/6/6. I’ve found that my favorite is P/D offhand.
I know what you’re thinking. P/D in a D/D build? Well I forgot to switch weapons after I switched my build, and it worked WONDERS. I use it for a safe ranged option and the condition ticking actually isn’t that bad. It’s also got great direct damage.
But the thing that makes P/D offhand shine…Is this:
When your opponent is low on hp, use shadow refuge and use sneak attack inside shadow refuge. This steals life from the enemy and usually finishes them.
I also use this if I don’t desperately need to escape and need some extra life.
Tell me what you guys think about it. Try it out!
I’d rarely waste an SR to finish an enemy off while roaming, its got more useful purposes with my d/d build. Its nice to have a ranged weapon, but imo if your going ranged Sbow has better mobillity + AoE.
I chose s/d over the other choices because:
1. It’s not d/p. Honestly just hate this weaponset, the concept is utterly stupid, no offense to those who run it.
2. S/D gives me some nice boonrip that shortbow doesn’t offer
3. It provides a lower cost movement skill than shortbow, with a nice imobilize + condi clear
4. It’s not ranged like p/d, but I find that since the max range for any thief attack (Excluding traited steal) is 900, you can’t stay far enough away for it to be effective. The 3 skill on p/d is excellent for staying away, but it also wastes initiative that may be better suited for a simple cnd + regen and walk away.
5. It maintains quick access to stealth, unlike s/p
The dps from p/d just isn’t worth it, you’ll be mainly bursting with d/d anyways, and it doesn’t offer nearly the amount of utillity that s/d does. s/p would be my second choice, because of the interupt + aoe cleave and the black powder, but I find that being unable to access stealth for 9 seconds without busting a cooldown severely hinders me in larger 1vX situations. Anyways that’s just my opinion, do with it as you wish.
it really depends what you like
i started as d/d and even when it got shift to d/p
sb is by far the most commonly used as stated above – good range dmg (sometimes higher than p/d)
s/d is again melee weapon and if you get used to it too much it can be hard to play d/d as you might lose too many ini (at least i am)
lately i started working around p/d build and i find it best with d/p because of #3 combos and not the perma stealth which i hate
every time i see d/p and i get them below 50% the use #5 #2 and start trolling so i back away from boredom
i use SR combo if i am sure i gonna for the kill from range 1v1 (below 25%hp)
Yeah, again this is just preference, but just trying to share my experiences with p/d. So far the results have been great.
