Q:
Guild Wars 1 Assassin versus Guild Wars 2 Thief, who would win in a dual match?
Guild Wars 1 Assassin

Guild Wars 2 Thief

My intent is to see which of these 2 class mechanics; ‘Shadows vs ’Stealth’
would be the Victor in a dual match.
2nd question is, which class mechanics would you prefer to have in Guild Wars 2 and why?

Assassin, no contest. As soon as Flashing Blades pops, the fight is over.

Flashing blades would be OP. But nothing beats prema shadow form before they nerfed it in PvP. Used to roam around all day in AB with that kitten. Note you damage output was pathetic but you had the power to kitten everyone off that the same time. Stupid touch rangers were my only bane…
KD chains anyone? lol
Assassin wins, it’s no contest.
Assassins also have access to a 2ndary profession and you know how it was with A/W builds.
High damage profession with access to good defense vs High damage profession without access to good defense… hmmm…
Assassin wins unless they stand around derping the moment the thief goes invisible.
oh on another note;
Assassin dance move >>>>>>> Thief dance move
another win.
Assassins are more deadly than thieves.
-Has access to dual classes (Huge list of skill to choose from)
-Able to kill targets even with dedicated healers (remember monks?)
Assassin, no contest. As soon as Flashing Blades pops, the fight is over.
I was gonna say the same thing. Flashing Blades would end any Thief.
Thieves win in style though. Party Rock dance plus actual clothes instead of the bladed latex S/M suits.

Even if you didn’t adjust the hp scaling for the 480 hp Sin vs 10k hp Thief, the Sin would probably win.
Depends entirely on the assassins build ofc. A knocklock spiker (as in 1-2-3-4-5-6-7) assassin would fail since the thief would just stun-break, dodge or blind his first knockdown, a flashing blade/critical defenses assassin (un-nerfed crit scyther?) would be slightly harder to counter. Or perhaps enchantments and stances would count as boons that the thief could steal with S/D?
The assassin could however not really win though, since he must have a target to be able to attack, which is impossible on a stealthed thief.

you realize the dance is done by race and not by profession?
That changes nothing.

Assassin’s blind >>>>> Thief blind
But you know what would be funny?
Assassins can’t jump or swim

Flashing blades is meager vs ranged kiting.

Then the question is what breed thief beats the assassin dance?
Also gotta love the thief forums sometimes, a thinly veiled whine thread about thief becomes a dance vs dance conversation ><
i think thief would win because of the stunbreak assassin has not.
Even if the Sin gets Shadow Form, they can be hit with AoE attacks (only that those attacks needed a different initial target or they would fail).
Shortbow chocking gas is ground targeted AoE (even GW1 Chocking Gas could hit shadow form, remember in Duncan’s dungeon being hit by it) unblockable (no Flashing Blades trigger) and each venom tick with Carrion equipment would hit for 200+ armor ignoring damage, destroying a Sin in 3-4 ticks given how low the HP pool was in GW1. A Thief can use Shadow Refuge to stealth for 10+ seconds, then continue to use Chocking Gas without breaking stealth until the Sin is dead.

Directly comparing GW1 and GW2 HP pools without compensating or adjusting for inflation/deflation? Erm…
if u gonna play unseen D/P build in gw2.. since assassins in gw1 has no stealth.. probably the stealth abuse D/P wud win

We’re taking maintainable 75% chance to block or invincibility inton account, which isn’t viable in GW2 mechanics. If we’re taking the advantages of the sin in his own game, we should be taking the advantages of the Thief on his own too…
too many powerful builds in gw1. assasin has more options. … even the a/mo build with shadows refuge healing+10 regen….and protective spirit….dmg wont matter at all from th ief :P…
Assassin would dominate.
Thief wins if there is water or a boulder to jump on top of…
GW1 Assassin. High Hp Regen and periods of high blocking chance while attacking.

Assassin were more deadly than theif they could down any player in seconds with multiple builds not just the 5 dagger skills you have here. they were the strongest melee profession. But obviously the theif would 1 hit an assassin they have only 500~hp pro ones 620 but lets say assassin were in this game they would destroy a theif.
Depends which one hits with the first attack. If Thief gets stealth before the assassin can land his first attack, then tief. Otherwise assassin just bursts him down to the ground (and further) =)
