I roll a Ranger as a main, and always solo roam wvw (no prizes for guessing I roll condi bunker LOL).

Usually I like to set up some 1v1s with thieves, eles or warriors, or whoever else is solo roaming.

With thieves, the fights will usually go one of a few different ways:

1. They’ll attack me, see that they can’t do much burst damage then use DatMobility to disengage and escape

2. They’ll attack me, and even though they aren’t doing much damage (typically these will be the thieves who spam heartseeker even when i’m at full HP, lel) they’ll still hang around only to get bursted down by my conditions

3. This is the one I’m starting to encounter more frequently, and with more experienced solo thieves. They’ll often use some kind of blind-based build and even though i’ll be landing hits, I won’t be doing that much damage. So I’m guessing they’re running some kind of tankier/regen type build and relying on backstabs as their main source of damage? I’ve had a few stalemates with these kinds of thieves, but often I’ll lose too.

Any ideas what builds these guys might be running? Would like to try out on my thief as I haven’t played it in a while (basically cuz I sucked at it and always died).

x/p and anything using Cloaked In Shadow are the main culprits.

If you really want to reduce the blind spam, keep them from landing CnD on you and keep out of the Black Powder. You can actually hit them while outside the field since its incredibly small.

v I just said Cloaked in Shadow lol.

not just x/p,there is a trait which spread area blindness on gaining stealth.

@OP — Honestly, it has more to do with your build that the Thieve’s build. If you’re easily shut down by blindness, you may want to review your current build.

As for the Thief, if it not P/D then it’s D/P, the only real weapons sets that had a chance in WvW — other sets are situational.

http://sirvincentiii.com ~ In the beginning…there was Tarnished Coast…
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.

Yeah, it’s called Cloaked in Shadows. -_-

Anyway, they key to defeating Thieves with conditions is to apply many different forms of conditions instead of just relying on one or two types.

Thieves can only remove 1 condition every 3 seconds and only while in stealth. If you only stack Bleed then you won’t be able to apply much pressure. You need to adapt your build to apply lots of different conditions.
