Heartseeker + Steal is still broken.
Who.. does that? Really? Since when did thieves use HS+Steal, that’s.. no, you just didn’t. I don’t believe you. I’m trying so hard to not insult people who did this, but it’s really difficult.

Your opinion of a technique doesn’t change the fact that it’s broken. Also, no offense… really.. but nobody cares that you have urges to insult people who do such a technique.
Anet specifically referenced the bug where steal would glitch when using it with a movement skill. Supposedly it was patched, but it still does not work.

Stealing 101:
- You can use Heartseeker to get closer to your target to execute a successful Steal. With Long Reach traited, you can effectively Steal from a great distance.
- Heartseeker + Steal can also be used to juke pursuers by using HS towards one direction and Stealing towards a different direction. With Hidden Thief, you can HS away from your pursuer then Steal at your pursuer running the opposite direction while in stealth.
All other uses are simply preference of the Thief, but these two are the only ones known to me that I have used myself.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
If you are going stealth, you need a stun break. I suggest running shadow step and using that instead of heartseeker.

I appreciate the suggestion but it doesn’t have anything to do with stealth or stunbreaking. I do not run stealth on steal and I do run shadowstep as a utility.
Fact is this worked pre-patch and still doesn’t work post-patch (including the patch that “fixed” it).
so after messing around in pvp a bit more:
– HS + steal doesn’t work, constantly ports you back
- BP+HS + steal doesn’t work either, ports you back
- fun fact, if you try to use steal and then shadowstep, shadowstep actually doesn#t port you anywhere but on same spot………………
- the infamous immob bug (which forced you to die or /dance) wasn’t actually fixed, just got it in combination with mesmer dazes and sb 5
- dodge actually doesn’t dodge anything anymore, ate quite few attacks mid dodge today
at this point i think i have better luck winning lottery than getting 1 fight w/o something bugging out…
P.S. they actually fixed clocktower shadow shot thing :/

Covering your heartseeker with a steal is one of the staples of thief gameplay — nearly everyone does it. A very standard combo is black powder, heartseeker, steal, backstab. Prevents a number of counter-maneuvers like opponents CC’ing you or bursting you at the end of your heartseeker. Also makes it so you gap close from a much greater distance.

Still having steal issues but also shadowstep and infiltrators signet have been rubber banding for me. :/ Also since when was daggerstorm interrupted by steal???

ANet hasn’t said a kitten thing. This is super disheartening. I am no longer playing my Thief and am considering leaving the game, just as I was starting to really enjoy the class.
Shame, really.
Wasn’t it just under a month ago that there was a big push from ANet to be more transparent and communicative with their customers? Well, where are they now? 80%+ of the traffic on the Thief board has been regarding the stealth nerfs and bugs that came with the latest patch. S/D is now neutered. Revealed cancels an entire Trait line (Shadow Arts). The class has been corralled into condition damage purgatory in sPvP. Run around WvW for a few hours and count all the rubberbanding Thief players trying in vain to +acrobat in spite of the new (failed) teleportation code.
Rolling an Engineer.
I, for one, am not really surprised seeing that they brought the very same person responsible for killing Smiter’s Boon from GW1 to balance the skills in GW2. The very same balancing attitude is happening now. The only difference is in GW1, PvP and PvE skills are separated for the most controversial skills. Other changes to skills in PvE are out right punishing instead of improving the QoL.
If you think that this balance team is done, you’ve seen nothing yet. The person responsible is well known as the profession killer — especially the professions they don’t want to see in competitive play.

The games been out 2+ years and with each passing day, the more frustration I am seeing across the player base.
To OP;
I believe I have found out how this bug occurs (and you may have as well but I will explain anyways). I will try my best to explain but I am bad at doing so…
Previously if you stole half way through a heartseeker leap, you would shadowstep to your target (assuming you were within the steal range) and you would successfully extend the range of the heartseeker (essentially what we’re doing when we do this combo). When we do this we add whatever distance we traveled to the distance we are able to achieve with steal.
For one reason or another this bug causes you to rubber band only when you try extend the range of the heartseeker (or similar skill). E.g. If I started a heartseeker and tried to add the extra range of the steal to the range I already traveled with the HS; the game will no longer take that extra range into account and will send you back only the distance the HS can obtain (450).
This bug will occur ONLY if you’re out of range of a regular steal though. So as a quick summary: From the moment you start your HS + Steal combo you only have the 900 range of the steal to work with. Anything over that and you will be sent back to the max range of the HS (450).
Following this rule I have not encountered this bug near as often. I only encounter it when I misjudge the range. I hope this explanation helps some of you. Good day all! ^^

“Fixing” is an advertising campaign. Negative publicity is still better than without publicity — and it’s cheaper too.
