Heartseeker is...STILL...missing
Yes I’ve started to recognize a pattern with lowered/elevated terrain too.
Hope this will be sorted out soon so dagger mainhand gets it’s full potential back. :-)

Why should they stop it? If it’s the skill that deals the most damage in the situation (like on a target with <25% health), then it would be scrub-like to not use it.
Stop Heartseekering into walls.
It’s rather absurd watching my thief “miss” a gate in WvW, or stationary targets in PvE.
Actually learn to heartseeker properly then instead of spamming it.

Heartseeker has very limited range, so you could just be slighty out of range. Also, probably you can interrupt it by spamming, so damage misses because of next leap… at least flanking strike works like this.

The problem currently, for those of you blissfully unaware, is that the skill misses a stationary (that means unmoving) target that is directly in front of you (implying melee range). This is not the fault of the thief, it’s Heartseeker being broken ever since it’s recent rebalance.

Get off your high horse, not every thief is a Heartseeker spamming noob.
This is incredibly annoying. It’s one thing to have adjusted damage so it’s not instant death in PvP, but when you miss completely stationary targets…
I use a 100% condition damage build, but if I’m hitting a target that has a sliver of life left, I’m going to use Heartseeker. That doesn’t make me a newb, it means I have the combat awareness to not blatantly ignore one of the most useful abilities we have.

If I use Heartseeker, and I leap directly on top of my opponent and get a “miss” message, even if I only use it once, that is not my fault. Broken ability is broken.
Yeah, the missing stationary targets isn’t even limited to HS. On my Ranger, I miss half of my attacks on the door in Foefire with a sword. Trebuchet can’t be hit by Death Blossom nor HS, and occasionally Death Blossom just flat out misses for no real reason, too.
At least on my Thief HS isn’t my primary ability, but it is nice for finishing people off. Would be nice if they focused on just fixing the bugs first, then started talking about balance. I’m sure half the balance concerns would be eased a bit if only every skill or trait had consistency.

The issue with attacking doors, buildings, siege weapons etc is a separate thing. Sometimes it seems like you have to keep moving around the object to keep hitting it. I kinda assume this was intentional to stop you just autoattacking a door then going afk until it gets broken down.

This is a big issue right now. I can be standing right next to a target golem and it misses or a WvW gate.
This gets even more annoying in sPvP when you have gotten your target to the correct HP to use HS and then it misses 4 times with out them dodging.
This needs to be fixed asap Arena Net
PVE – Using Heartseeker doesnt make a person bad. It only makes him bad if thats ALL he uses. As a cond D/D thief I use heartseeker when a mob is below 50%. I cant tell you how many times I miss. Its extremely annoying to have a mob at 5% and my HS miss twice. None of my other abilities miss nearly as much as HS. Let me say though I like the dmg changes to the skill but the missing is extremely annoying at this point.
For the love of kittens please fix this already. If Heartseeker needs another nerf than fine, I don’t really care at this point. I just want it to stop missing.

It’s not Heartseeker spam that causes it to miss. It misses when I use it exactly once to “execute” a low HP target.
You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies.
I noticed other attacks missing as well. Maybe it’s due to me not using the ‘Melee Assist’ or whatever that doesn’t allow you to push through targets. So I’m not ‘running forward’ into what I’m attacking all the time. Thus, the range might be off my 1 unit sometimes.
Cloak and Dagger has missed a couple times where I’m right on the guy – no Blind on me either unless it was right at that instant. So who knows, maybe it favors people who use the Melee Assist.
I’ve identified 3 key complaints here after mucking through the p!issing contest that is the Thief forum and wish to identify them as they are game-wide:
- Stationary objects are bugged. Some of them will cause melee to miss unless they are physically moving through the world (W, A, S, D)
- All ‘move to target’ skills have an issue when the target changes direction multiple times or doubles back on its path. This is not a Heartseeker-specific issue.
- All ‘leap’ type skills leap directly toward the target with no regard for ‘z’ axis. This is not a Heartseeker-specific issue.
Hope this helps when using HS in the future. I’m sure there will be many patches to come in a slow-fix process.
There is definately something weird with Heartseeker. As a D/D thief i use it to finish off NPCs when under 30-25% and it misses a lot. I can understand it missing in uneven terrain or during movement but it straight out misses with the NPC/mob just next to me, in front of me, in even terrain. You just have to go out there and test it. Theres something wrong with this attack. It really misses the hitbox a lot.
Ive seen this commented in the bugs forum. Would love a post from Anet. At least a “we are looking into it”.

People don’t all spam HS. I use it as a finisher and it misses 60% of the time on a target under 25% health.
It’s called a finisher for a reason.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re ‘depending on one skill’ or not, if you spend initiative on an ability and it does no damage because it misses for no apparent reason then you’re being put at a disadvantage and losing both damage and time (over which the opponent can do more damage to you).
Wow, people who are saying “stop spamming heartseeker” are just being ignorant because the skill has like a 25% hit rate even on stationary targets. People who like the skill are becoming trained to tap it 3 or 4 times just because they know the majority of the tries will miss. Sure, there is an element of skill to it where the enemy can change course to dodge it, but it should not be missing so often on people who do not move at all.
Iv stopped using heartseeker all together because its too big a gamble. Fix this please.
dear Freelancer, they wrote they fixed it with today’s patch.
You should try if it is still broken before ask for a fix.
People still die to heartseaker spam? Bads will be bads.
