Yep, been having this exact problem as of today, it was an issue back in beta. Appears they broke it again, hope it’s fixed soon.

Uhh.. stationary means they aren’t moving, so no. It happens in PVE as well.
Haven’t noticed all hitted when used, although, only use it 1 or 2 times in a combat which is a quite lot more than I use DB which is never.
Just hope Anet would change that we could change the weapon skills as well as we can utilities.

This is happening on NPC creatures just standing still.
I wouldn’t say it’s as high as 40%, but I have it occur maybe like 10% of the time against stationary mobs. I’ll use HS to finish off a monster thinking it will die, but instead it’ll miss and I’ll be forced to hit it a few more times with skill 1, often taking an extra hit in the process. If I’m forced to have one of my skills pigeon-holed into being a finisher move, it would be nice to know that it has a guaranteed chance of hitting the monster standing right in front of me slapping me in the face.
I was going to say it seems like it is around 50% myself, but that is just a rough guess based off observation. I do know that it is missing an awful lot after the change. I don’t have a problem with the modification they made to it, but I do have a problem with it missing so much.
I would like to bump this thread, as I also am noticing the skill heavily missing. I’ve had it miss 3-4 times in a row, it’s very frustrating. Like others said, the nerf to it and re-work was justified.

Having the exact same issue. Submitted a bug report for w/e that’s worth.
Ever since the last update Heartseeker misses targets sitting right next to me, and who are not moving, about half the time. The animation also plays in the wrong direction (almost sideways) whenever it misses.
I was getting just under a 40% success rate today with it. Like OP, I am curious if this is a bug or an unmentioned part of the balancing.
Yes, this happens to me around 10-20% of the time on stationary targets.

Yeah logged on today when I got home from work and I am noticing this big time now. My heartseekers even while next to a stationary object are missing like crazy.

Yep, I think it’s bugged. I’ve been getting misses on stationary PvE mobs as well. While I keep taking their hits, my HS keeps missing.

It seems to be a bug with gap closers in general. I noticed my newbie warrior’s “Rush” attack missed a bit more after that patch too.

Seconding this. My ranger and warrior both have this problem with gap closers. It’s been like this since the beta.
……not saying I don’t want it fixed, mind you, but it’s certainly not a thief only bug.

I noticed that it mostly misses when you hold the right click button to control the camera and then use Heartseeker. Try for yourself, it happens often and the animation changes a bit when it happens.
It’s a PITA...
I’m tired of fighting mobs and then going to use my finisher to, you know, finish it off.. and BLAM. ’Miss’.
It’s a weak attack, only good for finishing.. and it can’t even do that properly.

Hm, that could be it. I’m always using the mouse for movement. Definitely something that needs to be fixed, in any case.
