Help! New here! Critical or Condition!?

I’m relatively new here, Thief suites my play style the best so picked it. Right now I’m a lv 43 condition thief. I just bought the master traits manual and it resets my traits, and my armor is quite low level. So I figured that this would be a good time to choose between a crit thief or a condition thief. Any ideas/ opinions?

Both are viable, but I tried both and found crit far more satisfying to play. You hit things, it hurts.

It’s play style related, I suggest looking at some youtube videos to get a sense of what’s what. Personally I prefer condition, I tend to die a lot with the burst kind of build, and I find condition builds to be better equipped to dealing with large mobs and in dungeons.

For me personally, condition is not so fun to play. As Tain said, crit is more satisfying, especially when you land a clean backstab and down your enemy right away

Couldn’t have said it better for my own preference. I have both sets of armor; GC & Condition.

I don’t care much for the GC and I’m sure that’s because I never took the time to be real good at it (might give it another go). The condition build has a lot more survivability for me, and like Silver said, can be better against many folks. Although you do see good GC theives taking our multiple targets quite efficiently.

I’m a mix between the two extremes. Half my gear’s GC as heck (Rampager) and the other half’s Condition (Carrion). I won’t lie to you, I’m still not that buff and die a lot.
But hey, it’s a fun setup, especially with SB and P/P for the GW2 equivalent of being a “bullet-hell” character. (I do, however, wonder why sniper rifles are not on the “stealth-master” class …)

My preference is to level using condition – D/D DB spam for groups of mobs, P/D for single target. At 80 I played P/D – D/D condition for a few months, and then put together a Crit set of exotic gear and I switch between the two depending on my mood IMHO they are both a hell of a lot of fun although Crit seems a little more useful for speed dungeon runs and most WvW situations.

I tried the crit build and find it hard to take out a group of mobs at once. How do you play a crit build effectively? I want to know how do I play it before i decide.

Crit with sword pistol. Drop black powder then auto attack the mob. Keep standing on your black powder. You wont get hit by the mob and u will hit all the mob
