Help a father to play well thief on WvW
All i want is to know wich is, in your opinion, the best way to equip my thief at level 80, to be competitive in WvW and helping my team much more than i do now.
Should i buy the WvW set? should i buy the berserk or what else?I know that the set depends on my playstyle, but i don’t know wich playstyle is better for a thief in WvW.
I suppose that pure DmG won’t help much my team, maybe is better a condition or self healing build? or not?
OK well, this really is a question with no single answer. What play style will be better in WvW? Well, I’ve seen backstab thieves, shortbow thieves, I’m a P/D condition thief; they can all be helpful, it’s what you do with the thief that counts.
Are you going to stay with the zerg? Are you wanting to just travel with friends and hit smaller objectives? What are your aims in WvW?
If you’re soloing thief in WvW you can cap sentrys (as with any job) and also go solo supply camps.
I think we need a bit more information from you really.

I am an older player too and aussie based so latency is an issue for me.
I find that with slower reaction times i needed to spec high burst dmge and rely on basilisk venom to get off an attack chain.
So I went a BS build and SB. Short bow is great for running with a group and defending towers etc.
Alternatively you could go a stealth heavy spec and contribute to your guildies by finishing from stealth – that is always a big help in zerg situations.

as i say in my first post: “i know that there are not a “best” answer to my question, but all your opinion are important to me, cause i can learn much from people that know better than me the thief class on WvW.”
However, in WvW i stay with my guild. but not with the random zerg.
we’re from 10 to 20 people and we did all the things that are need to be done in WvW.
Defending Towers, camps and keeps, attacking towers camps and keeps.
Actually i’m asking wich is the best way to equip my thief to be competitive in WvW with the less cost of time-money and karma for the reason that i explain.
Thanks a lot

If you really want to increase your survivability a lot, try going into the Shadow Arts line and get the “Cloaked in Shadow” trait. Whenever you stealth, everyone gets blinded, which means you and your friends are all protected from every enemy’s next swing (unless they’re slow about it and blind wears off). This is great if you play dagger-dagger like I do, and spam skill 5, so you’re going stealth every 4 seconds and the enemies are constantly blinded.
I also like to bring the Shadow Refuge utility skill, it’s a great panic button if you get in over your head. You can hide yourself and I think up to like 4-5 friends ~15 seconds, and after the first 5 you’re free to run around outside the circle.

OK, well, when I’m defending keeps, I’m usually firing at my enemy with a shortbow whilst also watching the ranks assaulting our keep/tower/whatever for an opportunity where I can switch to P/D, leap off the walls and cause a bit of chaos on the weaker flank and perhaps killing a few attackers in the process before I’ve properly been ‘made’ and swarmed; then I’ll stealth up and return to the defence and usually repeat that process.
Also if you’re assaulting positions with your guildmates, shortbow is good for attacking cannons/oil/siege etc and also shooting people up on the walls from range with AoE damage and poison for general harrassment. Keep an eye out for any enemy who might be trying to flank you, look for enemy running to the keep and destroy them.
You can also scout ahead of your group on an objective that they want to take, you can report back to them on potential enemy numbers, whether an area is clear etc. You can actually do quite a lot to help your team, these are just some basic examples so you can feel like you’re actually contributing instead of waiting around for everyone else to breach the door so you can fight the Lord etc.
