Help me leave thief
What are your goals in the game?
i would say war if u want to move fast a thief can’t out run a war . u didn’t like the guard because a thief can out run u idk . i say go to war . or go guard . and just not worry about thief’s running . or engine . u can have a bad @s5 looking engine still … elements r pretty sweet to . i have a lot of fun as a element and d/d elements can be fast

I’ll be back after I record me flying by a mobility warrior. Shadowstep chaining allows you to travel eons faster than any warrior could hope to. Just this morning my group of myself, 3 warriors and a FGS ele were asking me to slow down because I was killing dolyaks and flipping camps before they’d get there. We started at the same location.
If you want single target burst eles can easily do that. I might release a guide in February (too much RL stuff going on right now) about a burst build which deals ~18-20k damage against most non bunker builds in less than 1 sec. The problem with GC eles is they basically have no defense which means you will die just as fast.
Tbh there is no way keep a thief from escaping. If he really wants to he can just use stealth and teleport away. There’s nothing you can do about it.
On my Thief I can usually finish most classes once the fight reaches the 30-40% threshold, in under a second. I’m always saving initiative for that moment, while staying alive and dealing some damage. Need to go a little more offensive with some builds. And ele can catch a thief off-guard with a good cc at the right moment, like a ranger can put releaved on a thief to land a kill if you play it right. Its rare for a guard to kill a thief period, unless the Thief is trying to fight toe to toe with him. You just need to let guards blow their burst and then you can exchange blows and come out ahead. And all over once he blows his elite.. XD Guards are so slow to die.
I’m mostly interested in pvp and wvw, although I do have some fun with RP.
Thief is very fun in spvp, and roaming wvw, but put me in a zerg, and there is just too much aoe to do anything, even my bow barely works (although its great for combo field blasting) I have a better time, running behind their zerg and catching the stragglers who fell behind the zerg and 1v1ing them. It just feels like there is no point on walking with a zerg on my thief except to collect badges, xp, and gold. One my ele, I was always feeling epic with a zerg. If our zerg died, I would actually think: “if only I had done that then maybe we would’ve turned the tide”, compared to my thief: “I guess my team got wiped, better go meet them back at base once I get out of combat”.
Play what’s most fun mechanically. The pendulum of balance will swing back your way eventually.

yes if u chain shadow step u can move a great distance.but shadow step has a cool down so u have like one good chance to catch up to a war if u have it in your utilities and most thief’s do but none the less a war is still really fast !.srry i did not specify about shadow step chain…….. god viking jorun u spend way to much time on the forums lol got to be 100% specific when viking jorun lives on these forums !

Sword 2, Infiltrator’s Signet, withdraw, Roll for Initiative, Shadowstep, Sword 2 again (off CD), Shortbow 5 x2, Withdraw, Infiltrator’s Signet, Sword 2.
Enjoy being half way across EB in 40 seconds (my personal record starting from spawn to south SM). The fastest recorded time a warrior has been able to run that is 1m 26s.
Good day.
sword 2 don’t u need to be locked on ! same with infiltrator signet! roll for initiative pushes u back …. isn’t with drawl a heal skill that pushes u back to so u need to turn around to move forward .lol a lil ridiculous just to chase a war down !

This is why critters and ambient mobs are important. You also don’t have to worry about being forced into combat, and making a 180* turn to do a withdraw+R4I chain is pretty easy to aim in mere milliseconds when you get good at it. I’ve also mapped out every ambient creature in both EB and the borderlands, as well as common mob clusters that are greater than 900 units apart to avoid putting myself into combat. The map has also helped me plot out the fastest courses to each objective. Thief was never supposed to be an easy class, and I take pride in working for my speed, rather than mindlessly spamming 3 skills the moment they’re off cooldown. It’s all about risk/reward, and I risk it all. I happen to not use stealth either, posing more of a challenge while you and most other thieves rely on it as a crutch.
Well its too late XD. I already pushed my Thief up in levels by 20 and gave him the extra bag space. As much as I like the Elementalist, I’m not hardcore enough to excel at it. And I can always play it as a small time alt if I really want to blow people up at a distance. Meanwhile, I’ve been kicking kitten on my Thief, having a blast. I’ve just accepted that in WvW I am a loner, even if I’m following a zerg; I’m watching the terrain for signs of the enemy, scouting around and killing stragglers, but always outside the zergballs.
Wish me luck fellow Thieves, and I hope if we ever meet again, that it’d be during the 3-4 seconds of revealed between kills. XD Stay stealthy San Diego.
Ps: If anyone else is into RP on TC, feel free to whisper me in game under my same name as forums. This game is more fun with people to play with. I’ll await your response from the shadows.
Well, if you feel like doing some zerg fights, try going 30 in Shadow Arts and diving into the enemy zerg. Don’t stick to your allies, you’ll just get aoe’d to death.
So long as you have something to CnD on you can pretty much do whatever you want, such as wipe out half the enemy siege all by yourself
Not my best video, but you’ll get the idea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umWpDwCu4Ts
Then again, bursting usually is more fun. Protip: real men use 4 signet builds :P
