How about gap closing CnD?
Sounds like a great buff actually, the range doesn’t even have to be that long. 300 range should already make this a much better skill. Unfortunately, anet will not buff it and I bet some of the thief tryhards will be against it complaining that CnD “doesn’t take skill anymore”. You should see how hard some of the d/d players try to get d/p nerfed rather than getting their own weaponset buffed.
Make it instant and teleport. At least 600 range. It’s only fair considering it costs 2 more ini than SS, takes ages to cast and then it hits like wet noodle.
Or give D/D another skill in the place of skill 3. Something like steal, but with baseline damage and/or stealth.

That sounds great at first thought, but as a sword/dagger player that feels a bit like overkill as I already have sword #2 and shadowstep along with steal and whatever you want to tack on to steal in combination. I can think of some really cool stuff to do with it, like make it a ranged dagger throw and make dagger o/h fully ranged or make it stealth on demand, but it all seems to overstep the balance. I’d be happy just having a reliable condition clear or something handy on it to free up some trait options maybe.

I would say buff base damage of 3-5 on D/D first, then from there buff/rework some of the skills, specifically CnD. Increased range would feel really nice on CnD. Maybe just even around tactical strike range would work, along with an initiative reduction or blind.

Stealth on demand should have been our F2 ability from the very begining of game. I remember when I started playing, I picked thief as first character and was so confused when I couldn’t find a simple way to enter stealth. We’re supposed to be stealth class, but we’re not even good at that.

Actually thinking about it it does have some balance since every second you’re in teleport or closing distance is time away from dps or damage in general apart from conditions. I’m sold, I’ll take one gap closing CnD please.

CnD should be unblockable and cost less if it doesn’t land. That won’t fully fix D/D since it completely lacks utility but it should at the very least perform nearly as well as Shadow Shot.
