Red’s second post in one day, I’ve gone rampant.

I was helping someone out the other day learning the class and they said that Thieves Guild is honestly one of the best elites in the game. While debatable, from a learning PoV, I agree. But as I’ve “grown” (Sylvari thief too so there’s a joke in there somewhere), I’ve started using elites like Basilisk Venom and Daggerstorm more. Heck I even tried the Druid Spirit once (don’t). But as I looked back, those two thieves have really helped me out through thick and thin when there were even no other players around to help me. One time they literally turned a 2v1 into a 3v2, like they literally kept one guy busy while I killed the other and then went to fight him and they were still living. Working in tandem too, one blinds while the other goes for the throat….

How do you guys view TG? Has it always been just another skill to you? Or have you trusted them with your lives for a time? You may very well even hate them, but I for one would like to take this time to reflect what they’ve done for me (wish I had an attachment right now :p )

I don’t mind Thieves guild, the long cooldown is what puts me off though.

I much prefer Daggerstorm for WvW. It’s great for taking camps with, reflecting killshots, and the stability is lovely.

For WvW I mostly use dagger storm, but if my intention is to go out roaming, normally I will take thieves guild based on the design of my build. I find them to be a very good tide turner should I make too many mistakes or another player jumps in on my 1v1. But outside of that I rarely use them Ill normally take basilisk venom because its a shorter cool down and has better utility for pve. I will say though, for purposes of learning to play thief and leveling to 80 I used them exclusively, they are great for a turn of tides. But after maxing out I find the skill to be a little lack luster in comparison to the other elites utility.

You know iv never been a big fan of it outside of using it for venomshare. That being said it has saved my butt a few times, love the random scorpion wires they throw. When I roam now I honestly take avatar of grenth allot now works surprisingly well.

Wish thieves guild was a “trick” so trick cd reduction could work on it. Idm their utility even though they are incredibly easy to counter/kill (I just sit on the pistol guy, let the dagger thief run to me, use bps, and aa them). The cooldown is what really pushes them away from my skill bar.

People dont often realize daggerstorm reflects. It pretty much entirely shuts down engis, rangers, p/d thieves, and bow warriors. Its also extremely helpful against certain mesmers as well. In addition, its our only access to stability outside of lyssa or boonstealing. And its on half the cooldown of TG. Its a clear choice for me.

Daggerstorm first. Thieves Guild second choice. Both very good elites.

Why would I ever go defense with dagger storm giving initiative to an opponent, if I can go full offense, especially as a thief, and instagib them? Waste of elite slot.

TG is very nice, because it gives defense, offense and utility. It can totally put off the track even experienced players. Not to mention it allows you to pretty quickly solo a bunker.

Dagger storm grants 2 things thief doesn’t have outside of it, stability, and reflection. You can end the reflection early and hold onto 8 seconds of stability if you wish, the choice is there. Thief generally doesn’t lack offence, and when the defense aspect of an elite is 50% the cooldown, it’s why some people like dagger storm over TG. It’s alright damage but the effects it grants are far superior, plus the activation time is so quick that you can see a projectile inc and pop it if you wish. You generally don’t need to waste time with Ai to insta-gib someone, thief can do that fairly well as a GC.

“Taggerstorm” is my favourite for WvW hands down, it’s just too much fun. While I like TG for small-scale roaming the long cooldown makes it off-putting generally. I only use BV if I’m running lyssa runes.

I actually almost never run TG, mostly because BV is so good with lyssa runes and Daggerstorm is king in taking supply camps. This might be a big mistake on my side. The big CD is what turns me away especially against AoE heavy classes who can quickly take them down.

I love Boris and Natasha (will have to come up with new names now that I am a human instead of an asura). Sadly the cooldown is prohibitive, even 20s less and it would be more of a contender in my book. I almost solely use daggerstorm unless I am running a lyssa set, or need that petrification from BV. Which is almost rarely. I even use DS more in PvE. Though as has been mentioned they were almost essential leveling up through the first time and collecting some of those skill points.

I would love for them to take a 5-10% reduction in the damage they do for more nifty tricks like the wire used. I’d like the range one to use body shot a couple of times between unloads.

Oh well. I am fine with just perma Daggerstorm, I don’t see them drastically altering anything in a hurry. And we haven’t heard for TG nerfs yet…

TG is the elite of choice for a lot of PvE simply for the DPS boost.

in PvP, it’s a bit of a cheesy skill that can be strong in some 1v1 encounters, but basilisk is generally the PvP king for elites.

Depends on what the engie is running. Grenades will still hit if thrown at your feet. Bombs are much easier to hit. Elixir gun 3 and 4 will still hit you.

I used to use thieves guild a lot, but would never even think of using it now. The damage output is kinda meh for such a long CD. Most good players (the ones you want to worry about) will dodge the scorpion wire and just continue to focus on you. I’ve also found the cast time can open you up to some nasty bursts.

As a condition thief, dagger storm is my go to elite skill. Lots of bleeds and can act as a secondary heal with signet of malice. Also a good counter to someone who just switched to a ranged weapon. Would probably take basilisk venom on a back stab build.

they do less dmg than traited clones/phantasms. less skills. only 2 for a 20secs every few mins. only 1 condition (blind). mesmers make stronger allies and can keep 4 up at all times ..well soon as they die the mesmer makes more…. but still.

thieves guild is not OP. its good but they literally take 3 seconds to kill if u focus on them first. at best they are a great distraction and if scorpwire hits a gap closer+blind. they might get 2k dmg out of them if they survive and actually get some attacks in. its really notm uch. they deal 210-250 dmg (dagger thief) and 108-118(pistol thief) from what ive seen per attack. there is unload and the regular auto attack chain for the other thief.

Not at all close to it. I run BV and rarely use Dagger Storm. If I screw up a fight to the point where I’m reliant on AI to carry me to victory, I deserve to die and should improve my own abilities.

Don’t get me wrong, the skill is absolutely amazing and extremely potent when roaming. The cooldown is justified though in that if one becomes dependent on it, they deserve to lose the fight if it’s not available.

I must admit…. pairing thieves guild with the ambush trap can be hilarious. Especially if you can catch a player with the ambush trap about to come off cool down. Nothing funnier than watching them panic as a 1v1 turns into a 1v4.

Dagger storm 95% of time for the reflect, works great against certain classes/builds. I don’t need to fight some warriors, they just shoot themselves :P Also dagger storm in middle of any larger group fight hits like truct with a zerker build.

Very rarely I use basilisk, usually against other thieves. I don’t use lyssa runes so I don’t need BV for the cooldown.

TG only when I was leveling, in WvW maybe against a heavy class player that I want to aggro or they use the hounds elite. I consider TG to be kinda cheesy so I don’t use it in agreed duels.
