How do you fight a mesmer underwater?
Why would you even go underwater? You currently play the weakes underwater profession in this game, why go under water?!
You.Do.Not.

aquatic daily? doing the events underwater for WvW?
You.Do.Not.
that’s not an acceptable answer, but i did just that. haha ran from every mesmer i met in underwater so far
Water is like molecular acid for thieves…
so why did they nerf us for underwater then?
Because we could kill other players under water…
and now we can’t kill mesmer anymore?
not unless they’re a really bad mesmer. mesmers are incredibly strong underwater. thieves are incredibly weak underwater. so, to answer your question of how to fight a mesmer underwater? get to land, and hope he doesn’t kill you before you can.
STAY OUT OF THE WATER>….thieves need life jackets and red crosses on their helms just to survive battles in the water now. really smooth anet…..real smooth!
spear, spam 2

Spear 2 is like a FS/LS except without the unblockable and steal 2 boons ;_;
mesmers got an underwater nerf too.. their bleeds are half duration. just fyi. Thieves still suck underwater. I like using my 5 skill on speargun to move around quickly…thats about it.
thieves got like 6 underwater nerfs. and mesmers get 1/2 bleed duration? ill trade EVERY single one of my conditions underwater for the way it was. whats that tell you?> lol i think mesmer cant compare to the beating we took
PS GO CHECK ROLL FOR INITIATIVE UNDERWATER ….that got nerfed too…although not int he notes!
yeah, but the reason that mesmers were powerful underwater was that they could easily stack tons of bleeds with their clones. That nerf hit their opness hard. I play mesmer and thief, and actually mesmers got hit pretty bad all around with this set of nerfs. Not that it’s important to argue who got hit worse. I think mesmers are pretty balanced now. Thieves, I think have a way to go to get some build diversity. There’s still one or two solid builds that have been nerfed now, and other stuff doesn’t seem to compare.
If you want to fight underwater, play an engineer. Engies curbstomp anyone underwater.
What do you think you are? A ranger?

I dont even use a spear anymore, Im equiped with my harpoon gun and thats it.
but the best way is never go underwater, you dont NEED to do the underwater daily
I foolishly chased a necro into the water as he was running like he forgot to bring his weapons. Soon as I submerged, I got facerolled by a zerg of pets and conditions. I high tailed it outa there and barely escaped by the skin of my teeth!

False, if you want to fight underwater play a ranger. People think mesmers can stack bleeds? That’s cute.
It is not what you do, but how and why you do it that counts.

I dont think ive ever lost a 1v1 underwater, I spread my turrets apart and all over the place, makes it really hard to destroy them plus most people cant handle fighting vertically too.
Water is like molecular acid for thieves…
I really liked this :P
But yeah, before this patch we couldn’t use most of our best utilities underwater (when most of them could be used as other professions can use similar mechanics underwater with zero problem), but the Spear was the thing keeping us when fighting in the deep.
Now with the extreme nerf (first 7 initiative skill! yay! let’s set a precedent for Black Powder costing 10 initiative!! U.U) the oceans are something a Thief shouldn’t dare to touch… ironic for the profession that is the closest to a Pirate…
Mesmers can be really complicated to kill underwater, and normally you won’t win unless he is a baddie. Best advice I could give is to use skill 2 of Spear and hope it does at least 4k damage each time, if not, you better run cause nothing else will bring the mesmer down.
Not to mention the fact that we have only one way to enter stealth while underwater and it is our heal. They need to check our underwater skills and add more variety (Caltrops, Blinding Powder,Thieves Guild), because for thieves the transition between land and underwater combat is not smooth and the playstyle/builds that are good in land don’t translate into a good underwater thief.
