I have pretty bad ping such that my sb5 feels like a 450-600 range teleport and not 900…

my d/p stealth combo applies about 1-2 seconds sometimes after leaping 3 times in the black powder…

does anyone have any suggestions?

Don’t worry mate, I feel your pain too. I play from Australia and most of the time, trying to land a CnD is so frustrating. And SB #5 is pretty much useless for me… Or I’m probably bad at judging the range haha

One does not simply play thief with a high ping.

I’ve recently had a lot of experience with this while playing on the Chinese servers (3s latency during the best times).

Regardless of the 3s+ delay in every action I was still very successful (180wins 3 losses from yolo Q’ing into tpvp). Of course a lot of it had to do with my experience playing on NA and then versing the inexperienced Chinese players, but regardless I think the advice is solid:

It comes down to knowing very common openers, rotations, and the general flow of combat. It’s not hard to reliably anticipate the future of a battle and the more familiar you are with match-ups the better you can predict and react to those actions before they take place, or in this case, while they take place. Knowing when you should burst, but then understanding that with your 2-3 second delay the burst won’t take place for that delay and so it’s all about timing, even when you’re not really interacting with the up-to-speed actions from the enemy.

That’s how I managed to combat high ping ~400-2,700 ping on the chinese servers.

Pretty much this. I barely notice high ping with other classes, I just get stuck in wvw portals but with thief ping affects everything. SB 5 is not only useless, it actually kills me cos it rubber bands for 2-3s. Combos don’t connect and with low passive defences, any lag spike ends up with me instantly dead :c

I actually meant to write a guide about this and im so glad you made this thread. To lower the lag you get from the server you need to change your item build as something in your build is casuing lag.

If you play p/d for example the lag should go away, or try cvhanging the set of runes you have equiped. Worked wonders when i tried

Mhm, you’ve done it alot in solo que and the sad part is you’re not even that good lol and keeping a ratio for the leaderboards is an utter joke in this game, so mentioning this means absolutely nothing.

Yeah I am pretty awful. It’s fine, I’ll let you farm me for gold—let’s duel for gold. Come farm me since I am so terrible. Basically free gold for you.

Slightly related, low fps is why I cannot PvP at all with my thief. Too kitten frustrating, especially in WvW. System upgrade badly needed…
