How do you play your Thief in WvW?
As there are a number of different playstyles available for the thief I will just add my build and weapon loadout for reference. I’m traited 20/30/0/20/0 and usually running D/D or D/P in combination with the shortbow.
As I’m traited for burst I usually adopt an get in, try to kill one person, get out tactic. This works decently enough in zerg situations where it is possible to pick of stragglers who stray to far from the pack. I do the occasional Shadowstep → Daggerstorm but by now enough people know how to counter it so it’s rather situational.
When defending a Keep the Shortbows Clusterbomb does decent AoE damage but the slow firing speed from the walls limits its usefulness. I still mostly spam it while being on the lookout for single enemies I can take out by jumping them from the tower.
Enemies that are not worth engaging 1on1 are well played Mesmers (I usually attack them and if it goes south I escape, Mesmers are not good at giving chase), bunker build Warriors/Guardians (if my autoattack crits are lower than 1000 I just gtfo) and Thieves (any decent one will just escape if they start to lose).
In fights versus small groups my performance is vastly different depending on the skill of the enemies. If they know what they are doing it’s very hard to do any real damage but against clueless enemies I have won multiple 1vs2 or 1vs3 situations. The biggest problem I have is killing downed enemies, as we are quite squishy just standing there while their friends are beating me is just not good at all. Shadow Refuge can help of course but any decent enemy will just spam massive AoE in the circle.

When I roam solo I look for 3v1-5v1 matchups I like fighting groups solo and with thieves in their current state we can really catch people unawares and pull off big scalps. I agree with you on mesmers, my current build doesn’t suit fighting them at all.
Also solo I’ll take supply camps and try and hold them, maybe setup a ballista. also a good thief can hold a keep solo against 10 players for quite a while potentially even wipe them if they aren’t well organised.
in a group, heavy aoe bombing and some group buffing. I always carry shadow refuge its just too useful not to have it even when solo there is always a chance for a res on a firendly or an aoe stomp.
I don’t run a stealth spec as I usually run with my guild and find it limiting and not very group focused. we are also excellent at wiping out enemy siege be it on the walls or in the field. I’ve recently been using shadowstep more for this particularly for taking out catapults, ballistas and trebs

i run with 0/25/30/15/0, dont do much condition dmg not got a huge burst but i can outlast most opponents i encounter, even 2v1. with D/D + SB and unlike the OP i love chalenges and engage on any profession specialy the toughest ones :P
Fighting other thieves is awesome! :P
I like to solo/duo and just run to the opposite side of the map from the zerg and take sentries and camps then patrol the roads around them. Usually attracts smaller scale fun PvP.
I just do the jumping puzzle :P
I’ve been having a ton of fun jumping into groups wreck shop then duck back out before they react. stealth for a bit n do it again… It’s Been fun as hell honestly.
I am a roamer. I scout the enemy, destroy supply caravans, and kill groups of 1-3 people I run across. It’s a lot of fun and I never have to headbutt a gate.
I’m traited for sustained damage and survival via stealth, shadowsteps and dodges (0/30/20/20/0 and crit gear with S/D + SB). I tackle small groups in camps or by sentries. Usually I’ll be weaving in and out of combat and smacking down 2 or perhaps 3, but my main purpose is to keep the enemy busy. I’m always in a party, who will break away from me to help elsewhere, and when I notify them over voice comm, my warrior and guardian pals will show up after I’ve severely weakened and demoralised them to finish the job.
If a party isn’t possible, I team up as a duo with my warrior friend and I zip around like a fly with an invisibility cloak and ruin the enemy flanks while he absorbs the damage like a sponge and dishes it back. We divert attention between each other constantly so that we can’t be taken at the same time but we can’t just be ignored for the other, so we usually wreck groups of up to 5 by ourselves.

s/p just killing anything that i see. If thigs get hot i just “2” out, swtch to bow and im gone. Dont use stealth at all.
In zergs ulti and avoid melee’s. Again if things get hot i “2” and im out and safe.
There are times i wtf die… than i find out its another thief impersonating mesmer clones that i ignored :p
