Or go d/d, 6SA with shadow embrace and regen for that particular fight (would be good for the last boss fight too since most of the time you run with the fire balls, burn is on you).
That boss you are talking about, he seems to agro on low HP targets (always goes after my ele), yes gw2 agro system is just weird. You’ll get focused a lot in particular fights. It helps to let someone else get the agro first (heavies should really do this all the time) and if you get another low HP class in party (like eles, those are tasty victims of gw2 agro), put 3pts in acrobatics and watch that ele get rekt.

I run 5/6/0/0/3 in PvE with S/D and D/D. Use signet of malice. If you land a cleaving Pistol Whip, that’s almost a full health pool. Pistol Whip is also evade spam, so that should help you survive too.
Shortbow, or p/p acrobatic unload build with malice and invig presc.

you just have to understand the boss learn its pattern so yuou dont take any direct damage as the effigies deal massive damage on burning foes thats the point of the fight
Are we talking about that mini-boss on story mode?
Just use a shortbow and burst him when the AoE is down.
Shortbow is your answer for that fight because unlike P/P, you can actually use your weapon to shadowstep out of a jam. P/P is preferred for a stationary fights.

This together with berserker armor will make this an easy fight, if you can dodge his autoattack (easy tells)
If you are more comfortable with s/p, use 5/6/0/x/x and spam away.
