Guild Wars 2

I come from a history of crappy mmos so the stuff I ask may be completely out of the question for a game like this.

For one, is there prejudice against this class? Like do people not want you in their party for certain things? and are they bad in those big pvp battles?

Also, how fun is this class? Does it sort of feel like Zed or Talon from league where you go in, kill someone, and go out. Or is it some high squishy dps class that has the name “thief” but isn’t actually ninja-like, like in a lot of other mmorpgs.

some do not want u in ur team if u do pve but they r bad because thief do have one of the biggest pve dps so if they don’t want u u rlly don’t want them ^^
thiefs are not bad in bigger pvp matches if u mean wvw but ur role is different u r supposed to snipe high value targets like necros and eles and keep out of the main melee
and how fun? ^^ well i’ve played 3000hours this game and 2300hours is thief most fun imo but not the most easy.
and it’s more like zed imo shadow steps ftw u even have thiefs guild as elite they r like better versions of zed shadows ^^
and u can play thief in many other ways u can play dodge thief when u evade all enemy atks and shadow step all around
or u can play burst stealth when u hide in the shadows and then go behind the enemy and burst him and then go back in the shadows and find next target

don’t lose ur patience if it’s hard at first ^^

PvE : They have the highest single target dps and their stealth capability make them extremely valuable for team to skip in dungeon. They are squishy so they can be hard to play. Not as hard as elementalist, but harder than most other profession.

WvW roaming : Different build are good here, from the squishy D/P build around their backstab burst to the Dire Condi bunker thief that win battle of attrition. They are on top of the food chain here.

sPvP : They use their mobility, stealth and burst to their advantage here. Stealing beast, finishing low hp foes, stomping/rezzing, decapping far, … They are not that usefull in big brawl, but they gonna complete all these little task that other profession don’t do as well to help the team win. A great addition to any team.

WvW Zerg : That’s their weakness. In organized team, they have their place as they pick up the casters of the enemies. But in pug zerg, it can be harder to do a job as meaningful.

You will come across people that don’t like thieves but every class has these haters. Thief is definitely fun to play.

I find thieves to be the weakest class in the game, with the exception of pistol/dagger condition thief. Anyone who played thief a few times knows their weaknesses, and they are quite a few. As long as you don’t panic when fighting a thief, you will most likely win a duel every time with almost any build. They are incredibly vulnerable to CC and conditions with the lack of conditions removal, lack of stability (crowd control immunity buff) and very low base health. They also lack team fighting power since squishy assassin builds get instantly blown up in the team fight AoE, they don’t have a lot of AoE abilities. Though they do have one of the highest DPS on paper, you have to work really hard at getting it in because they are heavily punished for missing their abilities.

However, they are very good at roaming and turning every 1v1 fight into a 1v2 and taking out vulnerable targets fast. That being said, they are a VERY specialized class. I’d rather play something that can accomplish what a thief does slightly less efficiently, but have more versatility throughout the game.

I was in a zerg the other day with my guild and some randoms in WvW.

Everyone was told to team up acording to the current meta.
A team of Eles.
A team of Guards/warriors/necro.
Ranged/rest.

I ended up leading the rest and out of say 40 odd people there was me and one other guy in my team an engi.

Every single other person was an ele/war/guard/necro.

I was disgusted to say the least.

Knowing my build infact works quite well for zergs too and watching all these lemmings made me abit angry.
People should play what they like I agree but it seems most of the player base does not think this way and levels up an alt of every class to play the meta in which ever situation.
Very very sad.

I like my thief and I change its build to make it work in all situations in which I play it.

So when ppl like to play meta, it disgust you? You even said it yourself, your zerg made place for other profession, it just that nobody took the other and prefer to play a GWEN. Where is your moral authority over them?

Especially since Mesmer and Thief are a big part of good zerg bursting guild, they just have specialist role.

Its 100% like you go in and go out. In this game we call this reseting and you dont necesarily go out of the fight, but kite and keep sustained damage until your skills reset their cd.

This class is the most fun but its much harder to play well then other classes.

Example: I learned how to play a warrior well in 50 pvp games, a d/d ele well in about 100, but to get decent at thief its around 200 – 300 pvp rounds.

Some of the builds are downright overpowered 1v1, the burst is just stupid at times. L2p it and troll in wvw roaming. Thieves and mesmers just make wvw not fun for everyone else.
