How many thiefs will be left
all about 30% – 40%
- reroll a warri or another class 20%- 30%
- quit game 5%- 10%
Skilled Thiefs are dangerous
That’s not a bad guess. I was around the same numbers as you.
a kitten load will leave or re roll. logging onto my gw2 account atm is happening less and less… after dec 10th probably wsill uninstall this game

im ok with a few people quiting the game but we really cant handle them all rerolling to warrior because you know thats where they will go its the easy mistake friendly version of the thief that has a valid place in all game modes as opposed to the mists and pve (non instance) places where thiefs are actually welcome i honestly feel bad for the class as a necro i know im OP and i know a good thief is the only way to to stop me in WvW tho their ability to stealth isnt really OP its incredibly annoying when they are in the keep you just captured but that is its only real use other than roaming and camp stealing i would accept the thiefs in my guild not being able to stealth as they do now with an open heart if they gained damage reduced when taking damage from multiple sources or gave them increased range on short bow and some decent targetable aoe utility so they could do something inside a zerg vs zerg battle as it is now my thief will still get leveled to 80 next but only for the support venom build i see no point playing any other role in WvW on the thief
Well you can do a lot in a zerg fight. Use your AoE attacks.
Shortbow for sure and the most important, among other things, keep your Daggerstorm when you see some downed players and enter with Shadowstep (utilitie) to finish them. This can definetly turn the battle outcome.
As I said in an other thred Thieves with the guard buff are very likely to keep playing thief.
Others that are leveling one now is very difficult to keep playing one .
Always speaking about WvW incase you haven’t figured it.
Burst them down .Make them suffer
D/D – Sb FTW
PS: I already have a 80 lvl full ascended c/c warrior lvl 90 wvw rank .It’s very boring to play with…..

No one will quit. People love to exaggerate.
most ppl won’t quit
but many will reroll
[Teef] guild :>
won’t abadon thief in pve
will abandon thief in pvp
Oh the drama.
People who play the Thief class will not quit playing it simply due to some changes. They will adapt and continue.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
I’m sticking. I like the thief gameplay more than any other class. Also, it doesn’t hurt that my favorite spec (WvW-oriented 0/30/30/0/10, D/D & SB) is pretty much shadowstepping out of the red nerf-circle

do a lot in a zerg fight? srry i think you somehow got misdirected to the thief forum. and if u take my joke lightly plz show a video of you being “productive” in a zerg, and i mean moreso than any other class. without stayin on the edge pickon on strays. helping the zerg and not hiding.’

I’m in the same boat as hawkeye. People don’t get that thieves have a role in ZvZ, and that’s stealthing, teleporting in and taking out back liners before they can do any harm to your own zerg while the tanky initiators and front liners are protecting them. Ever see a staff ele go down in one hit? That’s why thieves are important in zergs. Sure, we aren’t tag-o-matics like staff guardians, but we are in fact blast finisher dumps, stealth machines and burst masters. We can do things that nobody else can do without getting focus targetted first. Use that.

backliners even get u killed. unless they are REALLY back there or out there. and again thats not really that useful :P bc most of the time you dont get the stomp. no stability/blocks/aegis/invuln. we can only stop other melee types from ruining our stomp with a blind…but even that is ruined after a random swing. there are NO videos where a thief really shows himself/herself shining in wvw combat large scale. this is bc they die. i have 19k hp and even i have to stay on the edges. anything a thief does another class would fill his spot MUCH MUCH better.
engineers. AOE dmg and aoe conditions
necros. Aoe dmg and aoe conditions
guardian. Aoe heals takes dmg deals aoe dmg (hard as hell even for 10 to kill)
warrior. Lots of dmg lots of defense…amazing class for wvw (makes up 50% easily)
mesmers. vital clone/phants condi/dmg explosions and porting/hastes/pulls/pushes
rangers. even rangers AOE dmg and send in pets to mess kitten up and decent defense
Eles. Aoe heals Aoe dmg and decent survivablity plus rally revive/port key mist in
Thieves….. can…. Dagger storm and venom share? i guess you MIGHT count clusterbomb but i mean 900 range really gets you taking A LOT of damage and also useless for top of keeps/towers shooting down or up.
So yes you could survive doign dmg to one person that strays away at the edge of a fight where nobody is around….but mean while a necro can AOE fear AOE put 6-7 conditions on in 1 second….. and thousands of AOE dmg in the same move. how the hell do you pick a thief over this. and when the enemies are mostly made up of the engi/necro/warrior/guard type…. you take so much aoe dmg. if you are content with hiding on the edge of a battle looking for a wounded sheep under half hp…thats great for you. i had higher hopes. atleast before we had the power/dmg to take somebody out in 3 seconds. now its actually a fight…which is fine but that leaves us no whwere but in between a rock and hard place.
I’ll still play thief. I’m almost going to make it a personal mission to see if I can make a new s/d build that’s viable in solo queue. The initiative changes will at least make it so we can roam faster using shortbow or heartseeker. In combat init regen isn’t getting improved but out of combat is seeing a nice increase.

That’s a good point. I already feel like Heartseeker + Thrill of the Crime in my D/D WvW build provide tremendous overland speed. That’s about to get even better.
If you find a S/D build that works, do post it. Part of me still wants to build Bolt, but it’s not currently worthwhile.

Well, I for one will keep playing my thief. After 3 legendaries I feel he is rather hard to give up on xD
Personally, out of the 7 thief players i know and play with, 6 ppl are going to keep their thieves on standby waiting for a better balance update in the future (me included) and the unfortunate one odd man out of the group is waiting to see how bad the balance update is gonna hit before considering a reroll (his thief is his only lvl 80, plus he has his char all geared up with asc. items, weapons plus legendaries so it’s understandably hard to just jump over to another char after all that work).
So basically out of my tiny group of friends only one will keep playing thief and that’s more to do with circumstances.
Sanduskel willing to play after dec 10 for sure, with his 5 alts all thieves lol
Dagger mainhand builds will still work fine post patch but all the other builds aren’t really worth using. 10/30/30/0/0, 10/30/0/0/30, 0/30/30/10/0, 25/30/0/0/15 are all fine. People will be dropping stuns left and right on sword users…. I’m not confident we can adapt on s/d and s/p. Maybe we can all trolololol with 10/0/0/30/30 double d/d db spam… we might be able to get infinite db’s now…. maybe Anet wants us to be unicorn trolls? They must want that!

Well, our guild only has a few thief mains (including me) but lately they see far less play then our alts and probably less so after the patch. the thief still has strong single target damage a decent mobility but there are others that have much better group utility while maintaining decent burst. Mesmer will still retain phase retreat on staff which is traitable to a 6 second CD and swap (mes sword mh #3 rollover) will most likely retain its hidden stunbreak (traitable to about 7 seconds). I’m not complaining that mesmer is op here, I’m just saying that our abilities should stay comparable to the other class that also uses denial magic.
Thieves will remain viable for many things, even if they’re not optimal for any.

In the context of balance (spvp), if a profession can’t fill any roll better than others then it isn’t viable. Viable means that a top team would be willing to take someone running that build. At least that’s my definition of viable in this game

Most of the melodramatic “I will quit my thief” posts don’t represent the vast thief player base who will keep playing. Most of us appreciate a non-easymode class that doesn’t rely on abusing broken mechanics (ANET’s terminology, not mine). So, not much will change other than the fact that we will have fewer scrubs playing thieves, which is wonderful.
Here we go… suddenly he appears
Hopefully, none will be left but I doubt that will happen.

I know a guy that finished his bolt the day before dec 10 patch is out. Poor guy.

actually it does. but alot end up staying bc of the lack of another great MMORPG of this type is yet to be released. soon as that happens gw2 is dead. they have ruined this game.
They haven’t ruined the game. they’ve balanced it so that all players can enjoy it. Most thieves still enjoy their thief and will continue to enjoy playing it long after the December 10th patch. As anet said, the init change is a massive buff. You should trust them.

I’d be very interested to see the evidence you have to support the claim that “all players enjoy Thief.” I’m assuming, of course, that you’re not basing it out of bias and hyperbole, since you are quick to point out these flaws in the opinions of others.
By Ogden’s hammer, what savings!
I didn’t say all. I said most. All would be hyperbole.
I will prob play more. Doom and gloom for d/p nerfs Doesnt sway me.
I have a geared level 80 of every class though, Cept engine (soon). I rotate them all out all the time so I dont burn out on 1 class.
Skritt Happens
Needless to say, I’ll still dual-gun fools just as often as I swap over to my mesmer and hand ’em the ’ol purple. I spent too much time gearing for a “workable” Gunslinger Thief to ashcan her now.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
My trickery build prob won’t take too much if a hit in spvp.
I’ll try thief after patch but if I have to change my build and gear I’ll just play my warr instead.
I didn’t say all. I said most. All would be hyperbole.
But if “most” players enjoy the Thief, and not all, then how have they “balanced it so that all players can enjoy it”?

I doubt that’s possible. there will always be some players who want an imbalanced game. Players from all classes as a majority can enjoy the game, not just from the thief class.

Yeah, makes sense like that… Since the number of players that play other (than a thief) classes is more than (duh,… thief is only 12%? the last infographic showed) the number of players that play a thief. Hence even if every thief quits and/or dislikes this patch, the majority will be happy! It feels like a bully circle.
TBH, I can’t wait until they nerf thieves to the ground making them completely and utterly worthless…. because… guess what’s going to happen next … and after that too … :P i just wish they could speed the whole killing the thief process up, so that they can move onto the next victim.

I’m already preparing to adapt, as bemused as I am by some of the changes they’ve proposed.
Plays completely opposite professions to his main Teef.

as am i. all the chicken littles are getting a little too wound up because of a few improvements to the thief class. lol

LoL, i have a kind of cinistic wish too, but i think that it will be just one think that would be the broken point for the entire class, Anet almost do it with the 4 seg of reveled in all part of the game, but they “quickly” undo the change for PvE and WvW (were the majority of player base are) because the change was too dam broken to be take it seriously like a balance chance and not like a gift for the QQ. In the uncoming change, if the “improve” to the iniciative are really a “huge buff” like they state, then it will be undo or nerfed sooner than later (like Shadow trap or Flanking strike) and then we will have a really broken class ready to be fixed and buffed 6 months later :-S

Now Sanduskel you have been trolling the thief forums well and hard for months now, yet have nothing you to prove you are decent thief player(or even main a thief) you have posted no vids, your not high ranked in tpvp, you’ve shown the thief community nothing.
You trolling skillz are second to none I will give you that, but would you at the very lest be willing to duel someone to back you statements? I’ll tell you what ill give you 20gold if you can beat me. So lets have a duel I wont be using my thief this would be an opportunity for you to show what a great position the thief is currently in. Also I’m sure there are a few other thief that play alts that would like to duel you and see if you can back up anything you have said in the forums.
Until you show some evidence you can play half as good as you imply your statements mean nothing.

Show me where did they use the term “Broken mechanic” I think you just made that up.
Now in reference to SOS change they said “We are ok with thieves blowing their cooldowns to have longer stealth, and we are ok with theives bouncing in and out of stealth, but we were not ok with thieves maintaining long duration stealth through abusing a single trait.” so in fact there are ok with the current way the thief stealths but this one trait is to powerful and I agree with anet.
So can you show me and link for the term “Broken mechanic”

I am not going to be telling you all “I told you so” when the thief population takes another dip on Dec. 10th.
I remember telling people at some point that if anet kept nerfing this profession that they will kill it. A good majority of the playerbase ****ing hates it on multiple levels now, including the ones who play it.
The only ones left are diehards using that exact same thing every other diehard is using, trolls that don’t even play the game and new thieves who havn’t even took a dip in thieve’s pool of suck.
But I’ve only theorycrafted everything thief-related. What do I know…
