How needed is DareDevil in WvW to be viable?
Alright Daredevil is almost in every thief build condi or power, the reason why people use it is because it uses aspects from the trait line acrobatics while also boosting overall damage and mobilty to the thief. Most thieves i know dont use staves unless they are pve but in wvw i recomend d/p because it is VERY strong rn and i also recomend to start practicing it because d/d will get you no where in wvw with all the toughness condi cheesers running around.

I guess I’ve stuck with D/D for so long because the playstyle is perfect for me. I think I’’m holding out for a buff that isn’t on the way though..
Don’t bother. Although how satisfying it is to kill someone with d/d most of the time you are out classed in every way. There is far too much aoe flying about theres days to be able to sit toe to toe as you once did and there has been a lot more defence added to some classes. Scrapper hammer for example is a huge offender here. I struggle sometimes as s/d because I lack the burst dmg… Unfortunately d/p is the most powerful set and 99% of thives in wvw use that set.

Really upsetting that the most skill based thief set (in my own opinion) is the least rewarding in pvp.
D/d was all about dmg and landing cnd. I guess It can still wreck power warriors and maybe sone eles If they don’t run stone heart and even some mesmers but it would take too long

It’s still somewhat usable in WvW. I still run core D/D power thief, but mostly from stubbornness. It’s not that you feel like you’re being countered by everything, OP; you actually pretty much are.
Daredevil is straight up power creep like everything in HoT. It’s a requirement to stay competitive and made the class way easier and more forgiving, but if you value fun with moderate success over winning all the time, you can still get away with core D/D if you can consistently outplay your foes.

I could probably be happy with a build that doesn’t have it but I really like bandits defense and I enjoy Impact Strike as much as I do Basilik Venom. The dodges feel really strong but I could likely go right back to Acro/DA/Trick for my s/d build. I find I don’t actually use dodges as much as I had thought while on the evade focused Acro/Trick/DD since using skill evades more, I still feel the need to keep one dodge in my pocket for the clutch anyway and using skill evades as much as I can keeps my path covered a little.

For most it is about Unhindered Combatant which is one of the best traits in the game. It certainly doesn’t hurt that it turns the vanilla thief from a Chevy into a Ferrari.
That line also comes with Bandits Defense which is one of the better general traits in the game. Skills like Impact Strike and Impairing Daggers are a lot of fun on the right builds.
