I know its not hard. This is mostly for the devs to see
Considering you can only do this without other players around it isn’t too OP, unless your opponents are new to the game. A single AoE CC will ruin your day since the stealth cap is only 12 seconds.
What’s the point of recording this to “show the devs”? They’ve been aware of this since it was discovered months ago and haven’t done anything about it because it’s not even close to being a problem.

Because you can’t just walk away and start the cycle over again, you’re invisible, so the only class that could possibly do that would be a ele with a static field

Because I can.
Now I know how to be useless for 5 minutes straight. Thank you for that vid.
So, what is the problem? You got to DO something every couple seconds to stay in stealth, and you need your skills/traits set up for it. It’s not as if you can just stay in stealth for minutes and still be attacking people (effectively) while doing so. As soon as you use initiative to attack people, you won’t have the initiative to keep stealthed. And, as people say all the time, a thief who keeps stealthing to troll people e.g. in WvW won’t bring many points to his server, he’s just an annoyance to solo roamers. I fail to see the problem.

Because counterplay. Thief with permastealths always beat all other thiefs with 7k+ backstab. He can always stand near your lord and point. Yes, you can stand up smokefield, but it is not the solution.

And good thieves beat 90% of the people that try to solo them.
Now show us the same against an enemy, I’m sure that wont work again.

Yes, it is practically useless build for hotjoin, but in tpvp you can’t counter this permatrololo.
Again, the devs have known about this for months, so what the hell is the point of trying to inform them? That’s like trying to let them know that Warrior’s are great in PvE, it’s completely pointless and a waste of forum space.
Not “perma stealth” or invisible when you can see the fields on the ground.
Not “perma stealth” or invisible when you can see the fields on the ground.
This.
You can see smoke, the shadow refuge animation, red circles etc. And you need to invest traits and utilities for doing that (for a bettere init regen). There are a lot of “marks” that point to you where the thief is.
So basically people needs to learn to look.

To see what? A thief that jump like a monkey for 5 min? Or a thief that can’t do anything when doing this?

And waste 3 utiliti slot for nothing without stun break must be very powerfull !!!

Discovered months ago? You think the thief designer just put blackpowder
on 5 and thinking they’ll just pull 1 heartseeker through it? With that
high access to spammable leap and blast finisher.
I’m pretty sure they knew about it since the release of the game.
The stealth has to be earned and traded for. And you don’t really walk unnoticed as blackpowder can be heard miles away. And smoke screen, shadow refuge and blackpowder is also visible.
SA V – Infusion of Shadows sided with Acro IX or Infiltrators Signet is all you need
to have access to permastealth without blowing or using any other utilities,
allowing you to pick other utilities instead.
This requires that you perform 4 heartseekers through the blackpowder field, which
is tricky without practice and the slightest lag will disrupt it.
Also 1 critter, 1 attackable object, 1 npc or 1 enemy nearby and the combo may fail leaving you with half initiative and 3(4) seconds reveal, which leads to the thiefs
death if fighting several ppl. While a x/D thief can take advantage of this and if he’s
skilled at timing his CnD he’s only visible for ~0.1 seconds
D/P is annoying and hard to catch, they are also great at hunting down ppl, going
after one alone without the appropriate build for doing so is suicide unless the thief is bad.

Thief in 450 range around. Do you have a lot of 900 aoe?

Ok
With BV you land 2 cluster bomb. Than you eat 3k HS and 6k+ backstab. Than autoattack chain in black powder and another bs. 5-6 sec you dead.
Run away impossible.
Infiltrator’s Arrow 6 ini and slowteleport
Shadow Shot 4 ini Unblockable
You win if you bunker or another d/p thief.
Very low risk high reward build.

What are you guys getting all riled up for?
The build is hard getting used to, but definitely counterable.
Once the fight drags on, you will get used to the timing and just drop in some instant daze to interrupt his heartseeker. Boom. He just blew 8 initiative and will have to use his stealth skills to run away.
It’s not like a CnD build, which can be countered by any faceroll build with the right strategy/timing, but it CAN be countered… And rendered useless one way or another even without having to resort to interrupts.
If you go into a pvp fight without any control skills or any other way to punish such behavior, the joke is on you.

I only need 4 seconds of stealth to place an anti-stealth trap myself. Then, point your back towards the trap and wait a few seconds…
I specially love when they start with the hectic, convulsive heartseekers.
I just thought it was really funny when i figured out how to do it, sorry to make you all so angry.
Welcome to the Thief forum, HatSimulator, where every topic becomes a “Thief is useless”, “learn to play”, “faceroll faceroll faceroll” thread.
Strangely enough, nobody mentioned how this kitten can be used to hide a mesmer in a keep.

i think the +2 ini on stealth trait should be removed from the game!

Just put it on a 3 seconds internal cooldown. This way you don’t screw those who use it legit.

And that would mess with blinding powder, HiS and Shadow Refuge.
It’s not something someone notice, but it’s passive and helps out a lot.
My solution would be to increase the initiative cost of heartseeker by 1
and a slight increase on its range. This would make perma stealth a lot
heavier and cost more traits and utilities to maintain.
And it would also be a fix for these mindless GC heartseeker spammers in tPvP.
And the higher range would be a good way to make up for the higher initiative cost.
I think you guys just need to learn how to fight D/P Thieves, then they wont make you so mad. Here’s what I do: pick a direction, and run away. They cant stay in stealth and follow you if you’re running from them. They will either waste tons of Ini chasing you and drop stealth, or you’ll get away from them. When theyre out of stealth and wasting cooldowns/ini chasing you, turn around and fight them. The moment they drop black powder again, turn and run. Repeat this process as many times as it takes for you to kill them or them to give up. If they dont chase you, then theyre a very good thief, and you should count yourself lucky that you got away, if they do chase and waste ini/cooldowns chasing you, theyre in a bad position when you turn around and fight them. The trick to fighting thieves is to never play their game. Once you give a thief the advantage in a fight and control of the pace of combat, you lose.

That must be the most stupid suggestion I ever read.
The “problem” isn’t heartseeker, its the possibility to increase the stealth time without costs. An intern CD of three second, were the best thing what they can do again this.
Would they increase the costs of Heartseeker would that harm all D/x thiefs also these they dont use stealth or this combo and HS is already very expessive as long as an enemy has more than 25% life.
And btw, the shortbow have an explosion finisher, which do the same.

Yup, if you burn all your ini and spend your time jumping back and forth through combo fields, you can stay stealthed a long time.
The stealth duration sounds OP in theory until you consider:
A) You have to continuously jump through blind fields, which prevents you from really chasing anyone.
B) You burn all your initiative to stay stealthed, leaving you with less combat options when you come out of stealth.
C) Using your heal to stay stealthed reduces your survival, particularly since Hide in Shadows has the longest cooldown of all our heals.
I’ll have to agree with Dahkeus here. If you notice, ALL of this thieve’s utilities, heal skills, and initiative are gone. Basically a pointless thief.
The game in general allows you (the player) to make these decisions with your build. This goes the same for a warrior who goes full mobility and is impossible to catch as they run halfway across the map.
If you make a setup for unlimited stealth, that’s all you’re gonna get. If you make a build for allot of regen on an ele. That’s all you’re gonna get. Guildwars 2 is the first game that let’s us chose such a diverse play style for each profession. Keep it that way.
I believe what people are failing to realize is that you only need 10 in Shadow Arts in order to achieve “permanent” stealth while outside of combat. Utilizing two thieves with a smoke field and the ridiculously overpowered shortbow, perma stealth is a breeze and simple even while in combat. Take the V train under SA if you guys didn’t know.
Stealthing while in combat to hide in a tower is very useful. It attracts lots of enemies away from where they are actually needed, thus aiding the map.
Yours truly,
Stealth Capper of TC
This isn’t exactly news, neither is it the problem with stealth. The problem is the Thief’s ability to rapidly reapply stealth, while in combat. The fact that the Thief can stack stealth to last over 5 minutes, is of no real gain, as the only benefit of it is to move unseen. And you can’t even really do that, as the effects you need to gain stealth with, are visible.
