I LOVE thief
Ive been maining teef for a while now and must agree. Im squishy af and i get killed by torment/confusion, but being able to do 14k backstabs and the ability to gtfo if needed (to an extent) is awesome….still tho…squishy af. Gotta take the bad with the good sometimes :p
- I am currently a main thief roamer for SF in WvW. LOVE ME!
- {SOAP} Solo/Havoc roamer, lover of good fights
I hate thieves. They are an awful profession.
Except Charr thieves. They are ok.
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
Charr thieves are cool. But… Why would you say they’re awful? I find it pretty fun, myself.
My main since launch has always been ranger. I had a thief, but they just sat in my account for years gathering dust. Wasn’t even fully leveled. Then I leveled it to 80 and still didn’t do anything with it and it continued to gather dust. HoT hit and I went and picked up the elite spec and then just forgot about it once again. Then randomly since like March of this year I decided to play my daredevil. I don’t even remember why I decided to do this…I think probably because it wears medium armor and I could toss my ranger’s gear at it. But I quickly realized…dd is pretty fun. O_O And I’ve been playing it a ton for the past few months.

There just seems to be a lot of wrong with the direction the class goes. There isn’t much of it that makes sense.
Thief (Why they didn’t call it Rogue is beyond me) is… the only other class I’ve bothered ivesting into, the first class being Engineer and being roughly 80% of my playtime (they’re also both charr).
The class is a mystery to me and I come back to it regularily when I’m burning out with the Engi. I sometimes like to bring it out for more difficult content but I don’t have many reasons to bring a Thief outside stealth when I can remain with an Engineer that deals an ABOMINABLE amount of damage with an interchangeable set of skills that allows varying degrees of protection and support especially when I’ve been kit-juggling since 2012.
I’ve never rolled a Thief with the intent of being some brooding ninja or a cringy dark shadow assassin or any sort of murdering machine (Engi has that spot anyways). The potential utility however is nice. And a part of me wishes that an incoming spec would revolve around utility and support, based on the shadow magic the class uses, to make Thieves needed outside stealth cheesing in 5 players content.
Other than that, I support the whole charr thing, the class itself I use it just to screw around.

It was joke. Thief is my favorite profession.
-Sorrow’s Furnace-
I’ve been a thief main since the first beta test where it was available. I just love everything about the profession.
I don’t love the class anymore. It’s way too forgiving. The very few matchups you can’t win within 3 to 30 seconds you just disengage to move along.
Everytime I log into wvw on my teef I am bored after 30 minutes.
This issue is bound to daredevil spec and its ridiculous amounts of evades/dodges and soft cc cleansing. I hope the rifle spec will bring the class back to a level where skill does matter.
(Core thief is underpowered like most other core professions and not worth playing.)

Excelsior.
This game is the first game ever where I ditch mages and archers for the “rogue” class.
GW2 has everything I like about thieves (emphasis on thief, not “rogues” and cheap knock-offs like that). What I really love is that the whole class works so well on (my) Asura, and since it’s an american company, you’ve got kitten acessoires (aviator shades, the noble set in black and white and short leather gloves, dual-wield weapons etc) that other games have not, they usually go some very medival fantasy setting or japanese kawaii nonsense.
I for myself love playing Splinter Cell, Dishonored, the THIEF games, so have the same in my favourite MMORPG is just great. I remember the blast I had when I played thief the first time, and everything about it. The sound effect when you dodge. The fact you can actually steal stuff, even though it’s mostly just feathers and such xD
Due to the initative I feel like what an assassin should be like: Prepare, go in, kill, go out, regenerate.
The only thing I really dislike is the staff. A large, heavy broomstick is nothing that I’d associate with this class. I have to admit, I play alone and at my own pace, so I can allow myself to go the aestethic > numbers way. Yes, I say it loud: I am going pistol and dual dagger gasp and my ^-button is under heavy wear while fighting, but whatever.
I love everything about it, the only thing I am not that much enjoying are the cheap “heal” skills. Everything-shadow. Yeeeeah, no. The engineer brought me into this game, and the medkit and its features were great, or the AED, the healing turret. But “shadow this”, “shadow that”…. That’s a bit stupid. But else, I am very, very satisfied.
One day I might finalize my wallpaper, which is here for overy 1 year now. I just made room for some more traits, but I am for now pretty fine with it. Maybe I need more space for the new elite spec :-)
