I could never be a balance dev.
I laughed. They should let you be dev for a day.
I like the way you think. Trolling the community is probably quite healthy for the psyche of a balance-dev. You can’t let the QQ get to you.
Although I think the balance team in GW2 is pretty awful, I can appreciate it’s difficult to pick out from the whine in every class forum what actually has merit and what is just, well, whine.
None the less small tweaks here and there would be nice to see they are trying to bring everything into line…. if they try something small, it doesn’t work they revert it etc. Although the CSR’s and GM’s have completely inadequate tools I’m guessing there is some good data mining systems built in so they can clearly see that certain classes are under performing or over performing in some areas.
They are going to need to be two things for GW2 to hold its player base, 1 more pro active and 2 very lucky!
I think its just…….“Dev.”
You’d do more than just balance by your self.
You’d also have meetings twice a week, work in a team environment, be politically correct, see problems you need to solve from multiple perspectives, know programming languages to a solid degree, do overtime, run in to problems, meet deadlines, push deadlines, take the initiative and get a raise…etc.
Anet has top notch people working there and it took a long time to build that team.
Sorry to take it down this imaginary road, but you’d be fired as an intern.

Not everyone on a dev team is a programmer. There will programmers (for making things happen in game), but also artists (for assets) and people who understand game design (who may or may not be programmers – these are the people doing balance).
I sincerely hope the devs are NOT using the forums to get an idea of where balance could be improved. It would only cloud the issues. Spotty teenagers with an agenda don’t do much for clarity, it is not easy to be fair and objective if you just had your wazoo cut off. Much more interesting are the combat logs and bug reports.
If I read the words ‘noob’ or ‘kitten’ or ‘facepalm’ i just turn off and read the next post. They just don’t realise how stupid it sounds. Imagine being a moderator shudder
Forums might be fine for suggestions on HOW to fix things. Not for determining if something NEEDS fixing. The few anet dev posts i have seen suggest they are very careful not to listen to all the bs and take it slow and deliberate. Else they will end up ‘fixing the fixes’.
