I feel thief is... just there..
There are lots off variants of the thief however a with the constant complaints and nerfs to things that aren’t as powerful as people say… well eventually we are going to run out of options and basically be stuck with the one build.

it basically is like that already. i never liked d/d or D/P so i play venom thief for a while now it’s .. well ok not awesome but i get alot of comments (in Spvp) that thieves should only play 1 build and that is backstab.
well in pvp you will always encounter that no matter the class, there will always be 1 flavour of the month spec that everyone will insult you about if your not rolling it.

Backstab/HS builds can be countered quite well with condition d/d or p/d.
in my honest opinion, ppl should play the way they want to, because in the end of the day, everything can be dodged and everything can be countered.

I have seen this happen to classes before, and is basically what I expect for the thief. Also, in a game without the trinity ( which honsestly I am enjoying; nothing against a trinity system , I just like this here as it is), this 1 build I suspect will be all around very poor.
I am not upset about the coming stealth change really, I almost never use stealth in any case.
It is simply that this will do nothing to placate those whose existence is centered upon the obsession that the thief must be reduced in all respects. Just trying to learn about things by reading posts here, you will see that there is a dedicated, fanatical cadre of people with an extensive wish list of demands.
So I feel quite certain that even if the impossible occurs, and somehow these people suddenly find a few seconds of stealth acceptable, the demands will simply move on to further changes. Even hoping that this will assuage the hatred of stealth seems very optimistic to me.
Despite the vague talk of changes to the thief which enhance mobility, to make it at least on par with the Elementalist ( which the devs said now holds the place of mobility master, when they intended that for the thief), I simply doubt these changes will occur. Perhaps way down the line , something small may appear( they were specifically mentioning changes to weapon sets, but what/when was very vague and nothing more than speculation).
Also, they mentioned giving the thief a way to “stay in the fight longer”. Which seems a departure from the earlier concept of the thief. Reading what they actually said about the thief way back, this seems to be back-pedaling and trying to morph the thief in the opposite direction:
" Players are used to going toe-to-toe with monsters, and the Thief is built around hopping in-and-out of combat. If you don’t know when to back off, you’re going to die."
I’d say this is relevant in general to gw2 combat..but my Necro can virtually tank things while my thief must constantly be on the move and avoiding absolutely everything possible ( not a glass cannon at all, either). The “when” for my thief is alot different from the “when” for my other toons.
What could they really do? Any change to the thief which does not reduce damage dealt or in some way hinder the profession, will be met with frenzied outrage.
So, I’d like to be wrong, and see this patch make people happy. But I have the feeling that the thief will eventually become irrelevant and little played.
Really I hope this is wrong, things go well for all concerned, and people just have fun playing the game.
I mean I hate the change they said they are going to make, not because it nerfs me personally (though it removes some of the usefulness of a thief from pve dungeons and such) but because its a blanket nerf that actively robs me of choices rather than fix the actual problematic/cheesy/exploitative content.

Yes, the change does not affect me much as I barely even use stealth. But rather than specifically fix what actually seems to be the issue at hand (repetitve use of CnD by a subset of the thief population in wvw), they simply changed everything. It just bodes ill for how things will go in the future.

Not really, if BS/HS uses Shadow Arts and isn’t full glass cannon. It’ll just end up a deadlock till the condition thief messes up. That’s just another of the tons of dodges and counters I guess. Problem with Thief is with newbies. Too many people don’t research anything about other classes and instead of learning counters they just complain.
Also always felt like Thief had too few skills/weapons compared to other classes too~ Feels like medium classes were designed last, ending with Thief.
