I don’t understand why most all Thief weapon sets get QQ’d and raged about. And I said “Most” not all.
Pistol/Dagger -Condition Spam cheese “(P/D Thieves are so cheese)”
Dagger/Pistol -Perma Stealth (Which is justifiable to an extent)
Dagger/Pistol -Perma Blind
Sword/Dagger – Perma Evade, too much base auto attack damage output
Sword/Dagger- “Larcenous Strike boon steal OP”
Sword/Dagger- “Infiltrator Strike/Return so Cheese”
Sword/Pistol- Perma Evade/ High reward/Low risk
Sword/Pistol Semi-perma Stun/Daze lock
Shortbow- Evade,Evade, Evade
The Only sets that has yet to be talked about continuously and cried about are D/D and P/P. I just don’t understand why I hear more talk about Thieves weapons being overpowered than any other class. All I hear is " He’s using (Insert Cheese Weapon here), thats the only reason that Thief won"

I have over 3.3k hours on my Thief. I’ve seen it all and heard it all. Thief is my only class since beta. I get so cheesed seeing so many people cry over Thieves weapons sets, and then Anet starts noticing, and then there goes another incoming Thief Nerf. What should we do fight with our fists? I don’t play S/P Thief, I play P/D. But i have experienced and used all the sets. I have excelled in most all of them. In my opinion Thieves weapon sets are the most controversial than any other classes. (And yes I know it’s controversial due to our no CD’s but rather Initiative system). I just wanted to get my thoughts out. If any of you agree with me, than that’s cool, if not then feel free to post QQ here. I will hold your hand.

I really think that they complain because we’re really annoying to fight, rather than the fact that they’re OP.
Clone / phantasm Mesmers are the MOST annoying to fight by far because they drop stuff that damages you WHILE they’re in stealth, and you have to go through this clicking frenzy of actually targetting them. Even if you call target, when they drop into stealth that reticle drops.
Compare that to the fact that an Ele, Warrior, Necro, other Thieves, Engies can pretty much one shot us or make fields that we cannot even step foot into because our builds are so specific that we need to be super squishy, I think we’re pretty balanced in the sense that we’re high risk high reward.
I’ve played thief since launch, but I’m still noobish at pvp / wvw.
I played thief for 3.5k hours… took a little break played else for about 1k. And now I’m up to about 200 hours on warrior and let me tell you, nothing is more overpowered than what I run on my warrior. I only play it to prove how overpowered and I’ll even admit it to people that it’s crazy op. I am now up to, since I started marking it down, 520 wins, 0 losses, and 3 draws. I just posted a video on the warrior forums of the past day that I remembered to record

Because thief gameplay is very active style which is opposite to passive meta. Thats why even “pro” players whine about this class.

D/D has a lot of complains because of the damage it produces with the combo mug+cnd+bs.
Of course they nerfed but still people complains.
And the only complain i see for P/P was root spamming.
Every profession has complains and haters that constantly try to nerf them.
But the only real thing i hate and i’m tired is other thieves that constantly use the word cheesy.

Go run around Spvp outa boredom as GC P/P and see how many people who’ve never seen a P/P Thief in their life call you a no skill spam 2 (because they have no idea it’s actually 3) cheese build op scrub easymode class >insert hateful sexual preference related word here< when you kill them just once when they’re not paying attention. :o
We are 100% cheese regardless of what we use to the eyes of everyone else.
I was testing a very tanky, stealthless, 20/15/0/15/20 P/P build in SoloQ today and got some pretty nasty comments from people. It’s the fact that we’re thieves, and “OP” is embedded in the minds of almost every player out there, regardless of reality.

I have 5 level 80’s, 4 of which I’ve used quite a bit solo or small group roaming in WvW. I have a rabid engi, rabid/dire necro, D/D (almost entirely zerker) thief, and a knights/cavaliers/zerker shatter/PU-Shatter mesmer…
I consider mesmer and thief my mains, and most of my good gear and gold goes towards my thief – who is by far my favorite…
My understanding is that thieves and mesmers both tend to own newbie players who can’t predict them… However, having played thief so much, stealth is actually laughably predictable.. and my mesmer has comfortably won 2v1 duels verse d/d and d/p thieves who were considered quite skilled. Aikinjinx can testify that I know how to fight verse thieves (we’ve dueled quite a few times)…
I’ve noticed that thieves tend to consider themselves balanced to weak (many I know quit their thieves), whereas most players consider thieves OP.
I think this happens because the lack of cds thieves have, coupled with evades and stealth, make them unpredictable. I believe this is a feature not a issue. However, this does mean they have a higher learning curve to fight against, and therefore are difficult for new players.
Good players, however, are able to predict thief stealth (I can count the times on both revealed and stealth in my head, and can figure out which traits a thief has after only a stealth or two).
I think this causes a divide between the perception of many players – whom can’t kill thieves – and people who play thieves, who compare themselves to other skilled players who can predict them…
I find my engi and my necro are the opposite. They’re good vs good players, but don’t have an inherent advantage verse bad players.
My mesmer has an inherent advantage against bad players as well (who can’t avoid phantasm/shatter attacks) but still has a sufficient variety of attacks and combos that I can keep good players guessing.
On my thief, verse good players, I constantly have to come up with more and more complicated and unpredictable combos (such as opening with a stealth skill at range, casting basilisk venom, using SB to land the venom after stealth ends, switching to D/D, CnD + steal into BS then back away and use dagger to cripple to stop the warrior hammering me into the ground… ETC)… Against a bad player its much simpler… Steal + CnD… BS… roll forwards (all bad players roll FORWARDS after a BS, idk why) then follow with a basic attack chain into heartseeker… that works against almost every glass cannon or new player… I think its that kind of high dmg combo that is too fast for most new players that spawns the thief hate

If it makes you feel any better he is an idiot that does not know how to work around other class mechanics.
And if it makes everyone feel better people complain the only current viable ranger build is op. As they have done with every ranger build that hits meta since launch leading to each build getting nerfed to nearly out of existence or out of existence.

thats a joke. i rarely ever lose to a thief on my ranger and im brand-new on him. what a joke. only time thieves are dangers are in wvw roaming. and that has no bearing on anything.

thats a joke. i rarely ever lose to a thief on my ranger and im brand-new on him. what a joke. only time thieves are dangers are in wvw roaming. and that has no bearing on anything.
Dude, chill out, there are good classes. In-fact all the classes are good, but it’s the user that determines if that character will be good. If you think all thieves are good for is WvW roaming, roll a theif. Then come back to this thread and post.

OP I’m also tired. All the thief nerf posts I see every single day have demoralized me to the point that I took a 2-3 month break just waiting to see what the next balance update will be about(probably nerfs as always). Eh Dark Souls 2 next week, so I got that going for me.

I have 8 level 80’s with sufficient time invested into all of them to know what they are capable of, and the flaws and strengths of each class. I pretty much only play in wvw, specifically roaming. Just to give a background on my claims. (and this is directly mostly towards d/p thieves, as thats the type of thief you see in wvw 90% of the time).
On to the “QQ”. We all heard the blind/stealth spam qq. You say it’s predictable. It is, to be honest. But also, a good thief knows it’s predictable, and can counter that as well. Funny thing that thieves never mention how they can counter other classes with timed stealth/blinds/interrupts/teleports. Countering the enemy strategy is the absolute top mechanic in this entire game. To win against the top skilled opponents, you MUST predict and counter/dodge almost everything they throw at you. That applies to thieves as well, even tho nobody seems to want to mention it. Yeah yeah, thieves are squishy, IF you let yourself get caught. If almost any class gets one or two offensive combos put on you against a good player, it could mean your dead. They probably already forced you to use your cds and hit you when exposed. Thieves have a insanely small “exposed” window, and if they manage to get into stealth they can regen, reset, and re-engage while your opponent still sits on cds.
A big issue with thieves, is that they can counter other classes much more efficiently with their skillset, and do it more often due to initiative instead of CDs. Meanwhile keeping explosive dps burst for offence.
I actually had a warrior in EoTM invite me to a party after killing him and says “You’re so cheese, play a class that takes skill. You play a cheese backstabbing build get good”. The funniest thing is I was playing sword LOL. The QQ is real.

Top it off it makes changing builds very “rigid” if you want to keep the max stats…. really puts a bad taste to this game for me (and at least ~638 other players).
I’m guessing your on the other side of the fence that you like ascended, see no problem with it, maybe it’s easy for you (since it’s nothing like the grind in other games…), and don’t understand why i want to have max stats since majority of the game can be done without it.

yeah I’m pretty sure they just meant exotic gear was going to be easy to acquire. not ascended, which is only ~5% upgrade anyways. And I’m pretty sure they admitted stats dont round up, so the ~5% is hardly noticeable anyways unless you have a full set.

It is Low risk because the evade it produces. S/P is High reward/Low risk set. If the Thief was full beserker armor and orbs, etc and S/P. The Sword and Pistol is High reward/ low risk, but the build itself is High reward/High Risk.

Right, that another view i forgot to mention that ~5% is nothing significant. Though to a certain degree it be categorized into “don’t understand why i want to have max stats”, since i would want that extra 5% (to me it makes a difference, it’s 5% better than the other gear… it’s BiS… i don’t know… i tried to argue for this but got nowhere and wont argue again since it’s pointless)

Rares and exotics drop all the time and if you do a few dungeons every day, exotics might as well rain from the sky. Im not sure how much easier you want gear to be. Of course ascended gear is going to take time and money to get, and very very rare drops from certain mobs/chests. Play any other MMO and you’d have to grind your pants off in dungeons and PVE just to get exotic lvl gear.

Still, it’s easy to dodge and quite predictable. Eventually you’ll stop evading and without stealth you’ll get wrecked immediately by any decent player.

roaming is like saying “im good at farming drakes” it really means nothing in the game.
thief w/ 1v1 build roaming to kill a warrior with Zerg v Zerg build. not many players other than thieves run 1v1 builds in wvw. so its obvious that thief has the upper hand as it is. just silly and meaning less while thief is crippled in spvp/tpvp bc of its best quality being capped and no compensation for that cap.
What I find funny is that a dev posted in the PvP forums a thread asking about the state of PW. Of course people are going to complain about it to get it nerfed there. One question he asks is how many hours have they played thief. Well I can easily lie, I mean, it’s the internet. Yet no one points fingers at the engineer that’s condi bursting you faster than you can clear them by spamming aoes everywhere on low cooldowns. Honestly, the “auto-attack” grenade, if traited, has the ability to inflict bleeding and burning, one of the most powerful condi’s in the game, and they can spam it. Amongst other conditions. CONFUS- whoa that was a really bad cough.
