I propose that Thieves be changed to Shadow<something>, who use darkness to aid them in battle, so that when people kitten about stealth we can go:

Uuuh, Shadow<something> are suppose to stealth and blind you. Darkness magick? Hello?

On another note, skill names and tooltips could also be redone without changing the abilities themselves to make more sense. Keep that in mind when you read this.

Could I wear Heavy Armor and be like Batman?

people do get caught up on name/lore. which is funny bc id say about 90% (atleast) of all the weapons are ergonomically incorrect/unusable and non-relating to any background/lore of class type. alot of the armor too. perhaps people like to pick and choose what suits them and complain/QQ about what they dont like on here. for instance: “a thief cant teleport and a thief cant LITERALLY go invis”… lol but in gw2 thieves were part of a magic type/training so they do have some arts.

Shadow doesnt sound anything like Ninja, at least use Kage instead.

to be honest, thieves are closer to tricksters than they are to shadows. they don’t use stealth, they use short term invisibility. they use blinding powder, feathers, and various other novelty items along with their normal invisibility. none of it having to do with stealth nor the shadows. all of it having to do with trickery and deception.

to use the example in the OP, “Uuuh, Tricksters are suppose to use trickery. Denial School? Hello?” it’s far more accurate, and someone would have to have the mental capacity of a goldfish to complain (read: whine incessantly) about a class using tricks to kill them/escape if it’s literally part of its name.

Ninja, enough said.

I don’t know why they just didn’t keep the Assassin title. The majority of the Thief skills are converted directly from Guild Wars’ Assassin. The trait lines are taken directly from Guild Wars skill lines (Critical Strikes, Deadly Arts, Shadow Arts etc). Most of the signets and some of the skills carried over too.

I just came up with another idea! Thieves should be called Tear Cups.

Just because most of Thieves have japanese names and are dressed like ninjas or altair doesn’t mean that the class must be renamed.

We gunslingers also request to not be grouped into another silly ninja archetype.

My thief steals things. Kind of a lot. Things the person/creature/object didn’t even know they possessed. Multiple times per minute. She’s got kleptomania of a caliber yet undocumented by our modern legal system. Clearly, the term “thief” can barely contain her Batman villain like, burglarizing tenancies. A new title is necessary to express this unbridled degree of pilfering and plundering:
