I tough that glass cannon thiefs were OP
If only people could understand that simple logic.
I’ve seen elementalists complain today that there is no counter. Go to their own forums and there are posts about static shield and mistform. If only they would read their own forums instead of whining in ours.
The afore mentioned elementalist even said “why should I have to change to d/d when I use a staff?”
By that logic, why should I have to use dagger/dagger to backstab when i use sword/pistol?
Elementalists even have a major trait that gives them a static shield when stunned…
Rangers have a major trait the grants them stealth when stunned.
It’s not hard people… simple logic.
I have never, ever been killed by a Thief on my Warrior and Guardian.
Maybe the day will come, but until the class is based on gibbing and I’m a player that equips anti-gib tools on any character, I will continue to laugh at gib Thieves. No offense.
From my understanding they are all long CD skills, you can always go in stealth and make them guess if you are running away or trying to stay aggressive, those skills provide 5-6 sec protection, if you dont over commit and used all your stuff on 1st few secs you are still in more positive situation than they do.

Same here, i like to play bursty glassy builds in all my MMORPG
From experience i learn that am not the only one, and having 1 panic button can get me the kill and live to fight another day
Thats why i run 2 Panic buttons in all my glassy bursty builds in Gw2 even in my thief that so needs it

No offense taken You are obviously applying simple logic to your profession. I actually like running into smart players that use their brains to counter. Ran into a sword & shield warrior the other day that completely soaked up a pistol whip (pre nerf) with a 3 second block (slot 5). I was so impressed I headshot him with the next attack and let him get away (Just kidding, I used headshot and BP then proceeded to kill him with slash chain)

This is why i have 2 panic buttons
If they dont get the first hit on me, am in a better position cuz they just wasted a stealth skill
Cuz if becomes a DPS run vs my builds, my builds will most likely win a glass cannon thief due to my higher skill per minute and not having to choose between damage and defense
But i can still be outplayed or caught off guard, that can always happen
But unless that happens, my panic button will give me a huge vantage vs glassy thiefs that rely on killing me faster then i kill then
You would be amazed by the ammount of times my wolf dies due to a thief burst vs my Protect Me
By the time they realize that they arent doing any damage to me they have already wasted 6/9 initiative if they are good players, nub tend to waste all initiative for nothing
Its a big disvantage, i know cuz i have a thief and i go into “escape” mode after i use couple tools for nothing, happens alot vs those dam clones…
Add signet of stone (30pt trait to make active signets affect you too) to your protect me and you will laugh at thieves even harder with your ranger.
Yea, those panic buttons do irritate, which is why I force them with some auto attacking and backstabbing before blowing my load on them.
They do damage but ikittennow how to get out of the way then you can kill a glasscannon thief pretty fast.

A big culprit in the burst damage is haste, which has a long cool down. Long as you wait on your panic button for haste to be used, it should coincide with the cooldown of haste.
And once again we learn why it’s a terrible idea to make a glass cannon thief.
I never understood the complaining about backstab Thieves. They are just like an assassin. If they catch you completely off guard: you’re dead; else: they’re dead.
Some people want every class to be the same.
I sure am sick of people whining when being killed by a class designed to kill. No one ever stops to consider how often a glass cannon thief dies.
I am in the works of creating a video that shows what a backstab thief can do. I will post it here in the next week or two (not much time to create the vid between work and children).
All I have to say is this.
To those of you who run into a fight, get an instagib, and hide for 45 seconds. Wash, Rinse, Repeat…. Play a different kittening class. You’re making us look bad.
To those of you who think you can never lose to a backstab thief… lol. I hope we get a chance to play together, one day

WRONG,
If they catch you completely off guard: you’re dead;
Else the thief simply pops a few ability’s and get away.
The real problem with thieves aint the damage really.
They simply have to much of everything next to there awesome burst damage.
I remember Anet’s official statement about thieves they dint wanna give em a permanent stealth, but what they gave them instead is much whorse.
The ability to disappear mid combat is one of the strongest ability’s in PVP for any class as you will also lose your target, this next to the many gab closers is what makes thieves OP.
And ofcourse the ROFLcopter dagger storm ability is one of the worst ability’s i have ever seen in any game.
So now that we got our “nerfs” people come here to lol instead of complain. /ok?
Quote isn’t working, but…
@Darkeh, if you’re complaining about Dagger Storm, nothing you say can be taken seriously. It is by far the easiest ability to counter. You run up and melee the thief, which forces them to either get out of Dagger Storm or die. Either way, you win.
It truly is one of the easiest elites to counter. The daggers are thrown at random, so the reflection is actually the most dangerous part about it. They also move a lot slower than normal, so the complaint of not being able to catch up to them because of stability is terrible.
I started using Panic buttons like:
Endure Pain
Protect Me
Mist Formnow i lol at thiefs all day long
and? Endure Pain = Stealth and lol at him for 4 sec, come back and blow him up with 10k Skillstabs.

…like never?

The daggers also cripple for 2 sec; still not the worst skill to counter if you’ve got some melee and a gap closer, but not quite as easy as “running up to them”.
As for the rest of Darkeh’s comments; I don’t think he’s too far off, although I do believe the burst can be a balancing problem when you take quickness into account (but that is true for any burst/quickness build really, apart from maybe rangers) and some of the +crit damage scaling (but that isn’t a thief only issue).
Stealth is a utility, you could say it’s the thief’s greatest utility.
Most classes have to build very specifically for their utility (instead of maxing burst or condition dps for instance) but it hardly requires a thief to give up anything.
You can have both the excellent utility that stealth provides and at the same time build for great burst or condition damage or …
That is an issue.
[Disclaimer] I have a 79 thief that I’ve almost exclusively leveled in WvW since 50 (apart from some crafting xp).
I’m not superl33t, but I’ve seen and experienced enough to say my thief can be more lethal with the right build than almost any amount of defense can withstand, and most often I can just walk (read: stealth) away after < I admit: I’ve had my juvenile fun with it, but it’s not balanced by any measure.
Not at all, I roll glass cannon thief and dominate if I play it smart and properly. If I go around trying to be a warrior Ill die like a chump. I do my job and I get the kills. If I dont I call for backup.
My condition thief eat glass cannon thiefs for breakfast.
Why does anybody even bother running glass cannon? I’m specced in traits for survival and gear for damage, and it’s a perfect balance. I can keep an entire zerg busy for a short while and take groups of 3-5 by myself if something doesn’t jump me and ruin my flow.
Resident Thief
I wish people would stop calling it a “glass cannon” thief. Sure, if you let people hit you, we have low HP and toughness and no mitigation skills. But with stealth and evades we are very difficult to hit.
More like a glass version of one of those Jedi training balls out of A New Hope :P
I would also like to see a few less people going on about how other classes can “easily counter” us by choosing the right skills. If people out there are adjusting their builds solely to counter thieves, then we are clearly overpowered.
