so … we have another nerf incoming. poison on bow and 10% overall dmg reduction across the board (words of anet).
thief is in a rough spot. most teams in tpvp wont bring thief. warrior right now is the best class and slightly OP.
what canhelp thief become better or more well rounded?
simple. 1 word. Protection. now before you get all worked up hear me out. its a passive. triggered ONLY on reveal. probably add it into LAST REFUGE likethis.
LAST REFUGE:
Use Blinding Powder when your health reaches a certain threshold.
Gain Protection on revealed after becoming dazedHealth threshold: 25%
3 secs Protection
.25 secs Dazedwhat do you guys think. feel free to tweak or like or object. i think this will fix our outcry for lack of defense/condi removal.

Last refuge should be moved into the adept tier as a choosable trait. ANet must think it’s awesome and lots of thieves will choose it (unless they are actually trolling us, which I sort of don’t doubt).
Any of the adept tier traits other than Master of Deception should be moved into the minor in place of last refuge.
This way ANet doesn’t need to change the (perfect?) last refuge, and thieves who don’t want to constantly die to it don’t need to anymore, and it will provide anywhere from a minor (slowed pulse) to a very nice (the others) buff to thieves who are in SA line.

Actually that is just going to add to the QQ train’s kittening power. I do think this is a good idea since a thief has very little access to defensive boons.
I would also like to suggest a few other traits based on this concept as well as offer a few other concepts aswell…
Shadow Guard 30s cooldown (replaces Hard-to-Live)
If you are Stunned while stealthed, you gain Revealed (3s) instead.

Caught 15s CD
Revealed replenishes 20% Endurance.

Remove the most severe condition on you. (Meaning longest duration, highest stacked or both.)

I want Hard to Catch to grant us 3 seconds of Stability after being hit by a control effect. (60 seconds cooldown).
I don’t think we need protection as a boon as a solution to our loss in dmg. We need to stay competitive as a dps class, which should been ways to stay on top of the fight (group fights as well). LR is kitten, so really anything helps but I’d prefer more dps if they decide to nerf our survivability further.

Actually, Zacchary may be on to something, traits that revolve around being revealed…someone think of more suggestions quick! I especially like the Caught idea, should be a minor I think.
I always thought the thief should get more of a bonus to backstabbing and flank attacks when out of stealth as a baseline. Sure, IN stealth it should be higher.
I would have Side strike do 7% more crit damage from side and 15% more crit damage from rear.
That would pretty much put the thief back in place.

I believe the game recognises only front and back. But it’d be nice to get higher dmg for more skillful play.
With the idea of a trait focused around revealed, and people not liking defensive abilities, why not have something like a 3 second haste on revealed. Or it could be implemented where we gain some sort of attack buff (i.e. Might)

none of those options would help us where we need. detrimental if u ask me.
you need the .25 daze so it makes sure you dont break last refuge. its actually a helpful thing not hinderance.
we recieve most of our dmg while in revealed. probably about 85-90%. since w have low toughness and low hp and less overall attacks than other people per minute…. the protection choice is really amazing. it will stop the stealth spammers and people who stay in stealth 8+ seconds…it will make stealth USE THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE…..in ….attack ….revealed. not in….stay in….stay in longer…..longer…..recast stealth….ok healed up now lets try again.
