Character: -Proudwulf- Human- Guardian

I recently started a thief and i was wondering if anyone uses the one handed weapons(meaning main hand: pistol, sword, or dagger with empty off hand)? And if you do is the one extra skill you get worth it? Now my idea to make this more useful is to add more skills for this option, not just the three you get. Maybe get martial art like skills like sweep kick, gut punch, or throw dirt? Any thoughts about this or how to make this weapon set more useful?

A dev said that the reason you get that #3 skill is for new thieves who don’t have an off hand. It’s not for actual play. I mean. Unless you want to I guess

That’s kinda the thing though, it should be viable. I’ve never been particularly keen on the way the game ‘forces’ you to dual-wield. It seems especially weird on Thieves, to be honest. I tend to see Thieves as being single-dagger or single-sword with a free for acrobatics/manipulation.
So, in short, I don’t really think that dev response is adequate. They need to rework them to be actual viable skills, and there needs to be some way you can gain some benefit from single-wielding.
The 4 and 5 skills should be hand to hand skills. Stuff like “Throw Sand” or “Dirty Punch.”
The 4 and 5 skills with the one-handed setup would be a good way to expand the use of items from Steal use: stock them, or give Thieves options.
Or just keep 3 skills but make the 3 skill unique & super strong. Since you’d have fewer weapon options for damage & utility, the #3 skill needs to do something to make up for the trade-off. Like a skill that shadowsteps you to your target, hits really hard, and then evades backward but costs like 9-10 initiative. Or one that drains all remaining initiative or slows your initiave regen by 50%. Swap to that set for a huge spike when needed but then you’re out initiative.

This is what I’ve always said. They should create appropriate hth skills for #4 and #5 when you don’t have a weapon equipped for all classes
