Q:

Hi. i ask other player in the game why thief class is give long range weapon; pistol, but they say is bad design and do not make sense for thief profession design in mmo game. So i want ask thief here for opinion, if same? Thief class is close range class but why make thief class weapon; pistol have long range? Idea? what advantage than long attack range do pistol have? when i think long range weapon, i think staff and bow and rifle; sniper gun. . when i think close range weapon, i think dagger, hammer, sword, short bow, mace etc.. Also i am think of make thief class when i am 80 level because i like thief close range not long range.

Robin hood is a Thief that uses a bow. If Robin hood can use a bow, Thieves can use pistol.

It’s not even long range. We have the shortest offensive range with ranged weapons.

But it makes plenty of sense.

Also. Have you ever been robbed? They were holding a knife or, wait for it. Firearm.

Rangers have close range weapons. Why shouldn’t thieves have longer ranged weapons? It’s all about the lore. Pistol and short bow match thief lore just fine.

Have you ever play the thief game? Thieves are not some kind of ninjas and assassins but even those were using ranged weapons including bow, throwing knives etc.

Because the design aspect is all in your head…
Thiefs steal kitten – nothing about what weapons they prefer… I mean modern days can range from knives to stolen/illegal rifles….
Assassin’s typically assassinate people, by any means necessary – preferably a way that doesn’t get themselves kill.
Ninja’s are similar to assassin’s…

Also, shouldn’t it also bother you that a Warrior has a longbow with 1200 range (pistol is 900 untraited, traited it’s 1200 if the bullet bounces)? I mean they’re not Bowman or Rangers, they’re Warriors… doesn’t that bother you OP? I mean if we’re going to be talking about how other MMO’s have done it, then surely the Warrior archetype almost never has a long range weapon either.

We don’t.
By any standard or stretch of the imagination.

By your logic then Thieves should be able to use all forms of weapons, being a Thief and all, able to steal from everybody. But like Zero already mentioned, the design is all in your head.

The dev team has proven they can’t balance a 2×4 on a cinder block.

They just didn’t do a full find-and-replace-all, it’s coming as tooltip fixes in future patches. They gotta leave some work form themselves to do, right? Otherwise what else would they be doing.

Hmm, I don’t know. “Thief’s Reward” is not as catchy as “Assassin’s Reward” even though you have not assassinated anyone thus deserve no reward.

Maybe then they just haven’t gotten around to adding the words “rogue”, “ninja”, and “bandit” into the mix. That would make more sense as it would be a subtle way of hinting that the “thief” is the archetype of these roles/classes/profs.
That’s a lot of design decisions right there, couple months worth anyways. So maybe we have yet to see the changes.

but, but, but…. Thrill of the Crime, Bountiful Theft, Sleight of Hand, and Mug….4/6 of my traits are thief related. I’ve just had a little dagger and acrobatics training as well.

We’re talking about ArenaNet here, so more than likely that these are currently in the “re-iteration” process — assuming that they still do that seeing all the high quality updates they have done lately.

It’s bad enough that they have no time to fix our profession, but they also have to tease us with Thieve’s skills on Caithe’s that we’ll never have, can you imagine being able to backstab 4 times in a row? If I can do that, who need a ranged weapon? — But that’s for another topic.

John Dillinger, now there’s a thief…I want a Tommy gun instead of the pea shooters Happiethyme’s stuck with that can only pop off 6-8 unloads max. That’s about 60-100 bullets if I get lucky with ricochet at a range of 1050, possible 4200 max range again I probably have more chances of winning the lotto than ricochet procing that. Oh and another thing, with d/p, I’m guessing the thieves in gw2 are all left handed cause they can throw knives with their left hand 1200 range but our bullets can only fly 900, 1050 if we pop some roids, figure that out.

Actually back in the day you can BS someone 4+ times in a roll, but I think some huntard wah wah wah and they added the revealed kitten.

Hardly in a row since the stealth needs to be reapplied as in BS→CnD→BS→CnD, etc.

In contrast Caithe’s stealth are auto-applied not to mention she also have 3xDeathBlossom

I don’t understand why anyone would think Thieves shouldn’t have long range weapons, just as I don’t understand why anyone would think Rangers shouldn’t have melee weapons.

I don’t know about you but in the LS, Caithe is not an NPC since I am controlling her.

If ArenaNet allowed me to use those skills and found that it is necessary to use those skill in that story, then I don’t see anything wrong with those skills.

That would be a perfect weapon set for Thieves for the new 5-skills D/D set I’ve been talking about.

Almost dude almost. Critical strikes, acrobatics,shadow arts and deadly arts doesn’t say assassin but it’s pretty much self explanatory. Look at the utilities for instance assassin’s signet. =,= I just got one hit by a guard today… Was on my s/d build with 6 in acro… The rest were zerk amu n pack runes… Well not one hit but I died pretty quick… Didn’t stand a chance.
