Is using Impacting Distraction along with Distracting Daggers worth it?

Depends on build and rune/sigil loadout.

I use distracting daggers in two seperate builds, one a Condition build that triggers Pressure strike/sigil of draining and sigil of Absorption on a single interrupt. I do not take PI here as the Escapists needed for condition cleanses.

I also use distracting dagger in a power staff/pp build loading those same sigils that trigger on interrupt.. With PI and SOH traited in trickery line this gets me 3k plus damage from pi itself, 1100 damage from the sigil of draining along with a 1k heal and three boons stolen on a successful steal causing interrupt. (A sort of mini mug without going the DA line)

This latter build is SA/DD/Trickery and has a good amount of stealth for a staff build allowing interrupts on steal with SOH , from the distracting daggers and from the Hook strike. The extra damage and benefits from these interrupts allows good control over the enemy in a fight and can make up for lost damage due to not going DA or CS.

I am speaking to wvw and pve ankitten ot sure these new sigils can be had in pvp.

In general, skillful builds are not recommended in this PvP meta, and using distracting daggers with this trait takes skill.

It would be really fun and rewarding to play these daggers + sword/pistol or pistol/pistol + boon steal in interrupt + impacting disruption if:

  • people weren’t spamming stability,
  • people weren’t spamming blind,
  • animations in this game were actually visible and required longer cast time (especially heals)

Tried it, and it doesn’t work. You could however play this trait with sword/pistol for really good burst with pistol whip. It’s fun to see your target die to pulmonary impact while fleeing, after getting pistol whipped.

It’s pointless in PVE and Thief is only worth it’s salt as a +1 decapper in PVP. But Ive been running a build like this in WvW and its great fun:

If you are skilled enough with pistol 4 then yes, it is definitely worth it.
on average it hits for around 3k.

It’s excellent on d/p builds in pvp. In fact, it is the only build I find really effective in pvp right now. Sindrener, Vallun and Marvin are also using it on d/p thief, with great success.

One thing to note and that is using this build works very good against classes a thief generally has more problems with such as the Scrapper Elementalist and reaper.

Just as example a steal of Fear can be very useful if the usage timed properly. After feared and enemy tends to load up their next skill which you can interrupt again with a well timed head shot or distracting dagger.

Now in WvW , given there no cooldown on PI or on those interrupt sigils fear in a group of players can be very effective . I like to use it when people are trying to field rez someone that is downed.

Thanks for the insight guys. I’ve been trying to decide if it’s worth it or not. I just hate losing that extra condi removal when dodging.

Babazhook, what build are you using in that SA/Trick/DD line? Is it similar to roamzero’s?

Currently using this in WvW. Note infiltration runes are something I am just trying out and they work surprisingly well in the build. Nice solid extra damage once enemy under 50 percent and the bonus kicks in. The cloak on number 6 can be useful as well.

Also The food not listed in the build page but I use the 10 percent less damage food we can now cook up. This helps with sustain coupled with the 10 percent less from Unhindered. (you can sub in weakening strikes as well for the tenacity)

Shadowstep is also flexible depending on how many conditions I encounter. Basi venom works better against more mobile/ranged opponents .

The fall trait where you stealth on fall is just more useful I found as you can use a jump to sucker someone into a hook strike/vault That all said my condition build using distracting daggers is further along and this one a work in progress.
