Impending Thief Nerfs?

since march is also a WvW patch, AoE will be nerfed, affecting thief shortbow most probably.
Basically they’ll kill the thief for competitive ( can you see the joke) play, and bring the only decent thief build down to subpar like any other thief build, probably believing we’ll play them insted of rerolling ele like any half brained guy would do.
they also said theyll buff other areas, but I SERIOUSLY doubt they’ll do something relevant.
basically, if I were you, I would start practing with your ele/ranger
There are not going to be any nerfs that affect your gameplay in the near future. The one nerfed talked about on the SoTG only hampers the perma-stealth build’s playstyle. If you like the class, stick with it. ANet is not going to make a class completely unviable.

I agree. The mug nerf seems odd. Honestly if they nerf thieves and dont touch ele I dont know what to say. I guess it will prove they dont have a clue about balance.
One of the few classes which can actually help kill an ele quickly in a 2v1 before he runs off and heals to full then comes back is a thief. Because it has alot of burst and has mobility capable of tracking down an ele. It still isnt a certainty that the thief will get the ele even with help though. The ele will still get away often.
To nerf thief burst (it is lame but the thief needs more options) is a good thing but the results will be bad. Ele will be even more overpowering. Thieves are far from OP right now. I would class them maybe 5/6th best class. And they are coming with what sounds like MASSIVE nerfs to this class whilst they think ele healing isnt op. Anet could be about to release the biggest fail balance patch in history.
Also if they are nerfing thieves for wvw that is even more laughable. Once culling is gone that nerfs thieves. And thieves suck in proper wvw because the ownage trains want people with high aoe and lots of fields (ele) or with alot of cc/stability (guardians/warriors).
So they are going to crush the only class which can potentially punish an ele for playing badly, FAIL

Permastealth and heavy burst damage are probably being toned down, along with the culling fix in WvW
If you have just started playing in PvE, you will probably be unaffected.
If you play “I’ll kill you in 2 seconds” or “I’ll just spam my stealth, never showing up on your screen” type of builds in PvP you probably won’t be able to do so after the patch. Hence the buttclenching fromt thiefes that played those builds.
But in the end nobody knows untill the patch hits.
If you like the class, stick with it. ANet is not going to make a class completely unviable.

Altough i agree mug is lame, burst is the only thing making thieves at least “fine” in serious tPvP.
Thieves suck in 1vs1.
Thieves can’t control a node.
Thieves can’t force a decap when alone, due to stealth.
Even if thieves are able to solo bunker guards, it takes so much time that the roamer will be able to come back even if he’s on the other side of the map and kill him in 2 spells.
Can you understand that current thief can’t afford a damage nerf without being totally removed from competitive play ?
Add this to the fact that the thief is basically the only “counter” to cheese S/D bunker eles, and you can figure out the outcome.
I dont think they said anything about nerfing the damage of mug, i understood it more like its too good to be a 10point trait so they might just promote it to grandmaster. Honestly the only time a thief is a real problem is when they do the combo with haste (macro) and u dont have the time to react to it.
In my opinion they should just make a slight delay between steal and cnd so u can actually avoid cnd, dmg is fine.

They may buff other areas of the Thief to make up for the nerfs.
A 10 point trait shouldn’t do 3-5k. If all traits were that good, the game would be broken. Kit refinement is getting the same treatment.

Nope, they precisely said "mug damage is a bit too high, we may redistribute damage ".
Sad point is that the thief is so bad as a teamfighter that you need to use shortbow 90% of the time, being out of melee range ( aka, not contesting) 90% of the time, unless very specifical situations or against very specifical classes.
Less burst = thieves are useless.
And i altough i partially agree for thief burst reduction, in order to favour newcomers, current thief can’t afford a mug nerf ( or any damage nerf) without being totally demolished.
Pretty sure they said they’re “looking” at mug. Don’t expect any changes besides the stealth thing on the March 26th patch.

Hell the Assassin got hit with nerfs left and right popping in and out of grace.
It looks like they have a better handle of things in GW2, so I’m not worried.
Mug is toxic like Kit burst is toxic, has to be brought in line sometime. If not now then when? Might as well get it out of the way

And i agree, i believe they could remove mug damage altogheter.
the point is that current thief has no compensation, and overall the thief is very weak on EVERY department aside burst and damage.
We’ll have no loger uses in tPvP for a GOOD while, and this is very irritating, even more after S/D ( and OH dagger in general) brutal nerf.
Burst is the only thing we have, if they want to continue with the nerf way, it’s better if they rehaul the class completely and admit their own fail with this class.
MUG is BEYOND OP name a single class that has a 10 point trait that can add up to 8k damage (yes if your in fuller zerker gear it will crit for 8k) to an ability thats instant cast.
Go ahead name one.
other classes get this kind of dmg on their weapons or with pets … also, thiefs should be master of dmg !

Warrior’s Eviscerate / Killshot , F1 skill without having to trait it … also more oftern usable , so is kit refinement.
You should really play a full zerker thief in a tPvP game , then you will probably understand what the problem is.
I for myself would exchange my mug-dmg any day of the week for some more “deep” gameplay, we i can be of use for my team with another build then 25/30/0/0/15 .

Yes, they don’t even have to spend traitpoints and have the same F1 dmg then we have, and even more frequent … you get it ?!
And for kit refinement, you stated that “NO OTHER CLASS” has that amount of dmg for only 10 traitpoints, and thats just not TRUE !
Thief has 8k ( imho total exaggerated ) okittensec cooldown (base) , and Kit refinement is much more dmg
on 10sec CD.
And just do put you into picture, i played my thief as a main 1k games mostly tourney , then i rerolled NG.
NG has much much more option , skills , playstyles and FUN.
Thief is really only viable with one spec.
Sure its strong in the right hands, but so is NG, or / and any other class…
And PvE wise thief gameplay really “sucks” compared to other classes.
There are so many useless Utils, whole Poison Utils are crap, and the traps too.
So, might there be some minor nerfs, but not without buffs in other areas.

Debatable…They have been saying they will help the warrior class be more viable and meta for spvp or pvp period. And what do they do? reduce a cooldown on sword…and makes banners multitarget……………………….wtf…………………..
