I am looking for a good pve build to use for farming, dungeons etc. Something with range and melee capabilities. I’m looking for great damage but without loosing too much survivability. Please post me a build and give a short description of what it does.

I just got my thief to lvl 80 and need to sort this out before I start working on armor sets.

D/P is great for PvE. High damage and the possibility to keep every enemy next to you in perma-blindness thanks to pistol skill #5 is everything you need to solo most of the mobs. Also dual skill (#3) is great to blind and shadowstep to your target, and it’s also a good burst of damage.

Using shortbow as the other weapon lets you become an aoe ranged DPS, great for Orr group events. I suggest using Signet of Malice (healing skill) in PvE, since skill such as Dagger Storm and the bomb cluster of the shortbow (skill #2) can heal you for more than 1k HP/s if spammed properly in the right points when fighting large groups.

For traits, be sure to take x/30/x/x/10 to start with, then you can add more power or survivability depending on your play style. I personally love 25/30/0/0/15 for ridiculously high damage and since your foes will always be blinded and yourself constantly healed by your own attacks, survivability won’t be such a real problem. In case of need, I can always use Shadow Refuge or Shadowstep (or even Steal on an alone mob) to get out quickly from danger.

We are not competing for who is the best in PVE so why not share? I’d understand if I asked for a PVP build.
Come on guys share a little give me a link to your build or a link to a video. I’m new to thief just want me make a good build for dungeons and normal PVE.

very well, but if they nerf it, i will curse you and the gw2 devs (them beeing the 3rd time)

0/30/0/10/30
critical strikes tree: the 1 and 3 (10sec furry and 7% extra crit from behind), +20% dmg under 50%hp
acrobatics: get the vigor on heal, or whatever suits you (remember, dodges are good to have)
trickery: trill of crime, 5% dmg from behind, merciful ambush (or sleight of hands)

trinkets and weapons: zerker (and some celestial if you wish)
helm, armor and pants PVT (because of lol crit damage ratio)
gloves,boots, shoulders zerker
and for the runes i use 5x ranger + 1 ruby orb (i don’t consider that 6x eagle is better)

i use d/d and bow (all zerk) and sword/pistol ( i use sentinel/zerk, or sentinel/sentinel)
skills: hide in shadows (for cond removal), signets of power and precision (good emergency cond clean and endurance fill), sr or haste (haste for the gate in cof p1) and daggerstorm (if many mobs)/TG/mistfire wolf

you get around 3k+ attack, 73% crit rate (without traits or furry) if you use minotaur steak (1h duration and under 50c i believe) and Quality Maintenance Oil (i am cheap…)

you get furry about 50% time, around 14k hp, and 100% crit chance if you have furry and strike from behind, with over 100% crit damage to boot

nerfs here i come ! even if it’s a pve setup :P
you need to dodge the big stuff, or you get 1 hited

your build does not allow mistakes to be done, paper armor and hp (1 shot basically)
you will hug the ground very often, in my opinion

i don’t know who spread the crap that scolar runes are best … they are not !
power runes scale linearly, the precision/critical ones go exponential passing by much the power ones at a precision/cirt builds !

dps is not about pulling 10k damage once every 5 years, then 5k dmg
it is to constantly put 7-8k (via crits)

If you are not good at dodging and can’t keep above 90% hp they are even

scholar orbs are only slightly better due to the 90% hp buff so to the average player it is best to stick with ruby

as far as i know and someone please correct if i am wrong

scholar runes are cumulative

25+50+90 Power and 3+5% Crit damage for a total of 165 Power and 8% Crit damage
with that big 10% damage increase

Ruby Orbs x6 if you get them are 20 Power 14 Precision and 2% Crit Damage Each

Working out in a 120 Power 12% Crit damage and 84 Precision which im not sure how much critical strike it works out as but if i have Signet of agility down correct with the 10+ 1 per level which is 90 precision which gives me an 8% increase in my Crit chance so i’d imagine the ruby orbs would be around 6-7% crit increase.

Very good player here has some awesome guide’s.

That is the beauty of glass builds, once you know the bosses, you can stay alive and put some major hurt on him. Sure you get downed from time to time, but the dmg output is worth it. Dungeons is a matter how well you know the bosses and mobs.
I wouldn’t suggest a new thief starting out as a zerker. But you should know that thief rely on active defense.
If you decide to go 40+ fractals, zerker is the way to go, because no matter how tanky you are, you will be 1-shotted.

Personally i run 25/30/0/15/0, full zerker with ruby orbs. As for weapons, i always switch according to the situation. S/P for mobs, D/D or S/D depending on the boss.

If you can keep yourself @90%+ hp all the time, scholar runes are better. In the glassy thief’s case, pretty much always, because if you are not, you are most likely downed.
