Infiltrator's Arrow Bug?!
It works like mesmer blink. The skill has to be able to trace a line that would not require jumping that is still inside the proper range (900). Otherwise what happens in that video is the result.
Nah, it will not do stairs or slopes either. Shadowstepping in general is bugged
In wvw many of the steps for instance aren’t real terrain, they’re destroyable nonsense, and kind of disregard shadowstepping.
if u r standing on places thats not the “ground”, it wont work. i found that when i m standing on a big waterpipe, or small hills, try to infiltrate away, it wont work, even no gap in between.
Yes, it is a bit frustrating. I think it used to work like that, but they nerfed it. They could have increased its range to 1200 to make it a bit more useful.
They had to make all blinks and teleports other than the Mesmer Portal work that way due to WvW balancing. Basically any point between the one you are at and your wished destination have to have no rises that go more than 30 degrees. If anything does have an angle on it that breaks that line you will travel as far as the line allows you then stop. Meaning that if you have a rock in front of you that breaks that rule and you want to go to the other side of it you can’t because the rock will stop you.
The reason they did this is due to the objectives in WvW. Why break down a door when everyone with a blink can get up on the walls. Mesmer Portals work differently because they where designed to be mass troop movers and if the Mesmer can get there they can drop a portal.
It would be really broken if it worked any other way.
Like:
1- Thief arrow shots up the wall
2- Archer Guard sees him and shoots him
3- Guardian is sitting below the wall and Port heals to the Thief
4- Mesmer sees the Guardian port up and runs to the outer guards to get hit
5- While getting hit Mesmer drops a portal entrance
6- Guardian sees portal go down and port heals the Mesmer to him
7- Mesmer now on the wall puts down a Portal Exit
8- 20 other team mates down below now get free access to the inner courtyard
9- wait 45 sec rinse repeat on the inner wall

In general true, but there are places where you can get up despite the exceeding 30 degrees. If the slope shadowstep on is reachable on foot in a certain distance, you can get up on it. Me and a buddy were testing the arrow in lion’s arch. It’s possible but very hard to find the right place while paying attention to both distance and location your arrow has to be shot at. I think I once saw a vid where someone was good at this, can’t remember where

It would be nice if skills in general worked differently in WvW, much like the PvP versions of skills in the original Guild Wars. It grinds my gears when otherwise much more helpful/interesting skills have function changes to oblige the WvW crowds.

Wrong, the way it currently works is broken. Gw1 shadowstepping was fine, you could go, within cast range, wherever you could walk, even a long walk. You could not pass doors, or get onto ledges or bridges.
