In my opinion this skill can be borderline useless in multiple situations, for multiple reasons: the speed of the arrow is a major problem if you are moving in the direction you are shooting, by the time you aim shoot and the arrow hits your pretty much on top of the place you shot the arrow making it useless. The initiative cost can be an issue as well as anywhere where there isnt a clear path you can walk up, you are unable to port up too, although this is a problem that affects all of the teleport skills in the game for all classes. I think IA would benefit greatly from an increased projectile speed, as well as the teleporting in the game as a whole reworked too to make it more like teleporting instead of the heavily restricted thing they call teleporting in this
While I agree that there are issues, Infiltrator’s Arrow is probably the single most useful Thief weapon-skill in the game.
The mobility it adds, especially if you have a good sense for shortcuts, is amazing.
The projectile never really struck me as slow, but then again I use instant casts and don’t rely on recticle targeting.
I agree that it would be nice if teleports worked a little more consistently. It’s frustrating (and sometimes deadly) when minor obstacles or even slopes like bridges etc. stop teleports from working properly.
The only useless part of Infiltrator’s Arrow is the Blind component, which strikes me as completely superfluous. I’d gladly sacrifice it if the cost of Infiltrator’s Arrow was reduced by 1 Initiative in return.
pretty sure IA is one of the main reasons ppl use sb in pvp or thieves in generall xD
it offers amazing verticall mobility on maps like khylo
the only thing i wish it wouldn’t mess up dodge so much and wouldn’t get screwed by random invisible obstacles, edges and what not
Its a teleport right ? not a jump ?
So why I get stuned when I try to escape from that ligthing AoE of elem (staff or the conjured hammer)
If I teleport myself that mean I can’t be touched by that ligthing wall
Its not a teleport its a shadow step. “STEP”.
Imagine it as if you fire an arrow but then become that arrows shadow.
Infiltrator arrow is a mess. It has never worked properly and only gotten more unreliable/less useful from anets sad attempts at ‘fixing’ teleport shortcuts/exploits. But it lets you sneak into stonemist in WvW so at least it’s fun for something

Before blind put you into combat, the blindness was actually useful while fleeing. Imagine you’re running away from person A in a narrow way, and suddenly person B is on the other side. You’re still ooc so you can just use IA on person B (or A for that matter) which blinded them so they couldn’t hit you with the first swing, immediately follow up with a second IA or shadowstep. You’re still OOC but no longer surrounded
Blindness now, however, put you into combat. So it’s less useful.
MILDLY useful for travel if you’re not 15 points into Acrobatics. I too would rather increased range and the removal of the blind. Or actually, just increase the range, and keep the blind. Screw it. Go all out.
Otherwise shortbow is infinitely useful to auto-attack insane crits in the middle of the map to wipe enemies off of a point, even solo. It’s my lazy button.
Mesmers have phantasms, I have shortbow.
they should override out of range targeting .
so u can cast aoe at full range when your mouse is in the red zone .
running / bumps in the road make it so u can never use aimed skilled at there max distance :S

I to this day have no IDEA why shortbow’s range was nerfed. It was a very poor decision. Leaving thieves at a disadvantage when trying to take down siege, etc.. Infiltrator’s Arrows cast time needs to be instant, for the time it takes to cast the arrow, and THEN the actual arrow moving through the air, I have already closed in to about the same spot I was teleporting towards. The cast time is even worse during Lag. Fix the cast time, make it instant.
I use IA allot it does have awesome uses, however its irritating when running the same direction to literally maybe port ~400 range at what is it 4 ini? My other beef is how badly it catches on land, a small hump in front of me and i port basically where i was standing before and get smashed on. i dunno bout instant but the arrow needs to be faster, worked awesome at 1200r miss those days. Im pretty sure its faster to hearseeker around than IA. That said though i feel naked not having a SB on my 2nd set….

Shortbow never had 1200 range. Cluster Bomb did.
To OP- For starters, Test how one travels with IA and see what makes the most sense to you. Is it a port, or do you just travel from A to B quickly? For example, you’ll find because of certain terrain you’ll be unable to complete your AI. Hmm what could that mean?
I think AI can help you understand how some of the bone structure of the game works.
Perhaps it’s our high expectations and assumptions that create our internal problems and struggles. Consider that maybe AI works fine and it is us who are misunderstood about how it works.
In other words, with honesty, truly dig deep in your self to find your own flaw before you point fingers elsewhere.
