Simple question; solely talking about damage.
I’m quite new to the class and just recently accessed the daredevil.
And right now I feel a bit more comfy with D/D, since it “allows” me to use more skills and hence makes the weaponset more interesting (1,2 and 5 in rotation; 4 for several enemies), whereas staff only requires the player to aa; maybe using 2 inbetween the rotation.

I see a couple of DDs running around with 2 daggers; so – still viable or not?

D/D condi is pretty strong as a duel/roaming build, power builds you’re just straight up better off taking D/P instead unfortunately.

I presume from the language that you’re using that you’re talking about PvE. D/D damage isn’t so far behind staff damage as to draw funny looks. If you want to take D/D into dungeons or the like no one is going to give it a second thought.

In raids it’s pretty substantially inferior (the loss of mobility and damage on dodge are particularly noticeable), and raiders are generally less tolerant of people playing their class sub-optimally on purpose. It’s hard enough to get into a raid as a thief already, I’d expect to be kicked if I was on a thief and playing a suboptimal build.

For 99% of what people do in PvE though power D/D is just fine and you shouldn’t have any problems with it.

It depends what game mode you’re going to be using it in.

In PvE, dagger/dagger is fairly decent, with respectable single target damage; however, staff does have a couple of things over it – AoE cleave in the form of Vault, higher vuln stacks, possible reflects and better mobility. Still, d/d has its uses, so I wouldn’t count it out.

In PvP and WvW though, well…
As a power set, d/p outclasses it in almost every way, with better stealth on demand, interrupts on demand, and far better ability to chase people. There isn’t really much d/d does that d/p does far better, unfortunately. Except…
d/d has actually seen more use these days in these game modes as a condi set, but it’s a bit situational. Death Blossom applies good amounts of bleeding to multiple targets, and since it evades, you’re pretty hard to pin down. Combine this with the condi dodge and caltrops on dodge and you’re pretty annoying to deal with. In single target situations though, d/d condi isn’t so great – p/d condi is better at that – but d/d condi definitely has its place as a super annoying condi build in WvW and PvP.
