Q:
Is Stealth Possible
A:
It depends on what your definition of an “Assassin” is.
If it’s going around in perma-stealth and waiting for opportunities to strike at a target, then no, that’s not possible.
If it’s going into combat with a target(s) and utilizing stealth to cause chaos and set up for high damage attacks that allows you to take people out of the fight very quickly, then yes, that is possible.
To elaborate there’s a trait line that gives bonuses to stealthing (Healing while stealthed, extra time spend stealthed etc) and weapons get some very nice abilities they can use when in stealth (Backstab, Sneak Attack, Tactical Strike etc) and to support this off hand weapons can allow stealth mid-combat (Cloak and Dagger for off-hand Dagger. Black Powder combined with a Leap combo from Heartseeker will also provide stealth) as well as utility skills that allow stealth (Hide in Shadows, Blinding Powder and Shadow Refuge)
Depending on how you build your character you can use stealth as a basis for your damage and defence spending a fairly long time in stealth during combat, or you can use it less and depend on it for escaping combat or setting up huge burst combos.

No seriously though, the closest thing you’d be to a Guildwars Assassin is a dagger dagger set up, you can use infiltrator’s signet to shadow step along with steal.
And yes offhand dagger has a stealth skill, for 3 seconds, cloak and dagger.
Offhand pistol black powder shot + mainhand dagger heart seeker combo also stealth you
stealth is possible however it tends to only last 3 seconds (4 if you trait), however you can stealth in combat so you can build toward a stealth damage build and still do full damage halfway through combat.
Just don’t expect to be running across maps in permastealth without cheesing
Yes.
Stealth tends to be pretty tactical in its application, rather than a general “You are invisible always and forever.” There’s only one thief stealth to my knowledge that lasts longer than 5 seconds, but you can leverage a lot of power / control even with the default stealths that last about 3 seconds.
Roll a thief, get a dagger off-hand ASAP, and experiment from there.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.
Thanks that’s a big help, I’ll be sure to keep that in mind when creating/playing my character.

One thing that would likely interest you is Shadow Refuge. It’s a skill with a 60 second cooldown, 48 if you trait properly, and it grants long enough stealth for you to actually sneak past certain things.
