Guild Wars 2

I became a bit inactive before the huge changes with the Thief classes, and at the time my main and favorite class was Thief and it was around level 60. I decided to start playing more actively again, in which I decided to read forums a bit and I have seen a lot of good outlooks but oh so many bad outlooks on the changes with the thief class. So I just want to ask, is the class still fun to play in regards to PvE, WvW, PvP? Or should I not focus on Thief so much and go try other classes more exclusively.

I’m still having a lot of fun, I only play in PvE and WvW. If you’re having doubts about thief why not try other classes anyway?

Thief is (in my opinion) in a good place right now as far as balance goes.

the TRUE problem anet has is the fact instead of improving the game they are degrading skills to balance rather than increasing others. game should be cutting edge not dumbed down more and more so the QQers are happy. make the QQers stronger if it is a true / legit problem. thief is getting much more boring since all these nerfs.

I seriously enjoy playing diablo 3 more than gw2 atm because of anet and thier patches.

Some splitting of balance would have been really nice this patch. Like Cluster Bomb for example. I remember they said that they wanted to start splitting WvW, PvE, and sPvP, they haven’t really started doing that. Revealed is a remnant of beginnings of it, but they should have reverted it for sPvP.

Still the most entertaining class.
But a fair amount of the appeal disappeared for me when they nerfed Tactical strike, and again when the quickness change ran through S/P Burst. While I feel these were done for a reason and agree that quickness needed a change, the playstyle losses are what is really felt. Slap on the shortbow not hitting anyone, and P/X’s problems thief is still enjoyable enough to play for shorter periods of time.

I agree completely with you, but I’m not a competitive player, I don’t sPvP, I enjoy WvW and PvE because I’ve found a build that fits my playstyle that’s all, I run p/p only in PvE if there’s a champion I know I’ll get wrecked going near ( like pretty much all the temple bosses 8| )… but for right now I’m still having fun, regardless of the nerfs and how crappy p/p actually is. :P

Thief was crazy OP. Thief is still OP with MH Dagger builds, but it’s a bit more manageable. Another nerf to MH Dagger is needed (reduced HS and BS damage), maybe to some evasion abilities and a buff to P/P, S/P and a few utilities is needed and then Thief will be in a good place.

Yuirs, you must play wvw only. Mh dagger does not need a nerf at all. In wvw it seems strong because 90% of thieves are glass cannon build or at least running full berserkers.

Spvp thief backstab is pretty much a joke unless you have 20 stacks of might from signets of power. Which means you are running 4 signets and no good utilities.

It lacks diversity still. I wish that the duel weapons functioned more as dual skills, then 2 mainhand, 1 dual skill, 2 offhand utilities basically.

And then you have shortbow, which couldve been its on skill line up. Which instead of just decreasing damage and upping the range for all the abilities, they downed the range, nerfed clusterbomb (deserved, no doubt about it), but failed to see we are now mid to short range. Which would be fine if they refined other melee ranged abilities and added collision.

This doesnt sway me from my thief, however, its just dissappointing is all that our diversity is in fact actually decreasing.

Well I do laugh a lot when I play thief. The combat itself is quite one dimensional and dull though.

you have the same armor as engineer and ranger. saying ‘we don’t have the same armor/hp’ is ridiculous. stack something other than zerkers if that’s your complaint. also, if that is indeed true that thief gets less armor rating, deal with it. that’s the tradeoff for being able to 12k backstab.

Personally, I’m a bit disappointed.

While I do feel the Thief is more rewarding and engaging than the other classes I have played (80 Warrior, Ranger, Elementalist), I’m disappointed at the Thief’s current place in the game.

While I would argue the Thief is mildly overpowered (I’ve complained about Initiative regen numerous times), it’s not at the point where it’s in a different league than more than half the classes in this game. I wouldn’t say the Thief is any more or less overpowered than Elementalists, Rangers, Guardians, or Mesmers. But when you consider what this class can actually do, I find I get bored with WvW very quickly because aside from roaming I really don’t contribute anything of any real value with the class to the server.

They really need to make the Thief more ‘thiefy’ and dramatically increase the class’ utility and worth to the current WvW meta.

Around half year ago when i started to play GW2 most used build was S/p. I liked that. I wasnt good at it becouse i was newcomer, but i liked that. Then they killed this build. So if we thiefs wanted to continue to play burst builds we had to use D/D and D/P after some time and some nerfs they decided to finaly nerf one of our most important burst skill (mug) and give us boos for S/D. Probably becouse they thought it will not be as ,,bursty" as D/D and D/P. Maybe they wanted us to play more tanky build with it, but we thiefs dont give up so easily and we continue to play style we want. So what they did now? They nerfed S/D, they nerfed cluster bomb which is absolutely unexplainable (does not mean they tryed to explain it. That would mean to comunicate with us about things we dont like and that is what they rarely do.) And they boost condition playstyle. Conditions? What do they think? That i will abandon fun that direct DMG gives me for some bleeding? I am thinking about creating necro as my Alt and maybe i will have condion build, but i want my Thief to be hard hitting foe for everyne who is not staying in corner! This is fun for me and i will never stop to play this style unless they totaly forbid or somehow destroy this playstyle. And if they do it i will stop to play thief or entire game.
So do i still have fun? Yes Will i have fun in future if they will continue they ,,Nerf wars" NO.

Thief is a boring no skill class that took all of an hour to master. With that being said it is still more fun than just getting owned on the completed nerfed ele.

Okay I get what you’re saying but you mention us being able to pull off 12k backstabs as if it’s a norm, it’s like saying a zerk warrior is able to pull off a 40k hundred blades, sure it’s conceivable I guess? With 25 stacks of bloodlust and might !
Our dps perhaps isn’t as high as you think, but then again aren’t we supposed to be the slippery hard hitting class? :\

I find myself playing less and less each week… atm with the current meta i log in, sit in the mists chatting with friends and log out 15min later…
I’m a PvP / WvW player and the frustration is consuming me so…

tbh i play allot more rift now that i did back in the days when it came out…

ur bonkers man. thief is not op. ill prove it with questions. obv u wont answer them truthfully so i will for you!

Can a good player of other professions beat a good thief? YES
Can 2 people of medium skill beat a good thief most of the time? YES
Can 10 thieves beat a group of 10 mixed classes? RARELY
Is thief one of the top 2 or 3 1v1 classes? YES
Is a thief in the bottom 2 group classes? YES
Is 1v1 important/ relevant in GW2? NO

Only a HORRIBLE player says a thief is OP. they were at teh very beginning of the game and even that is arguable bc they bring nothing to group play and the game is named after group playing. funny right? when 1 v 1 is relevant then i will consider entertaining a OP talk on thieves. until then we are one of the most underpowered classes in game. we get str8 up owned in larger fights. so fast we cant react no matter how good we are.

tell you what. go put full knights armor on an engineer and full knights on a thief. then get a player from another server to beat on them both equally…exactly equally….then you might understand. i play engineer guardian necro warrior and thief….Thief is my main however and when i say we are much more squishy its bc we are….we can trait 30 in SA for toughness and full knights we still die in a blink. more so than any other class. learn other classes and ull agree man.

If you believe so, then yes, Thief is still fun.

I am at that point where I don’t need stealth or zerk to kick someone’s kitten . Thief is and will always be fun for me (so long as my new mesmurrrr doesn’t become as fun).

^^ is utterly wrong and provable.

D/D was the most rewarding build – insane dps + squishiness
D/P was and is the most enjoyable build – blind + stealth + backstab.
S/D is sometimes a bit of both and sometimes none of that.

I still enjoy my Thief…
This is NOT my best though…

As a guardian, the thief is not fun for me. At all. It used to be bearable and we’d come out in a draw, usually, but now I get destroyed all the time. It’s frankly boring.

I still have fun with my thief… in role play forums.

Ingame it’s a hassle to play this class so i leveled almost any other class up to 80 and log on my thief only if i need something from its inventory. Seriously! It was the first character created last summer and i still want to play the thief, but the way it’s right now it’s no good.
