Just Curious about the CnD/Steal Combo.
Not a bug. CnD has a 1 second animation lag or cast time (not labeled). So basically you press CnD, Steal, Assassin’s Signet, and then Backstab. Takes about 1 second once you started attacking your target for everything to happen. Typically fast but harder on moving targets.

I don’t see it as a bug, just as something that helps give a Backstab Thief the mobility and element of surprise they need to actually get to do some damage. Steal doesn’t interrupt the cast time of Cloak and Dagger when it goes off and Steal isn’t the only ability that works in this way. Steal also doesn’t make the Thief go into Stealth unless they put points into the trait to make it do so. Steal also only has 900 range unless they trait it to 1200 and unless the Thief takes at least a few points into Trickery to make Steal’s cooldown low enough to use more often, otherwise it’s at least a 45 second cooldown.
To make it any worse would make it even more of a gimmick and useless than it already is. Yes it does help a Backstab Thief get in his 2 or 3 big hits, assuming that he’s already gave up all his defense for pure offense already, but I don’t think they need to mess with it, unless they just want to change it to a permanent stealth like in World of Warcraft’s Rogues.
I wouldn’t call it a bug, since each individual ability is functioning as intended. That said, I don’t think the synergy that has developed was entirely intentional and may get changed in the future.
If its a bug then several other similar comboes should be considered a bug as well. Such as the Churning Earth → Lightning Flash combo.
I solemnly declare ,that if they remove the cast time of C&D i will never.never,ever again precast it to Steal.

Some professions can do similar combos, like the scepter elementalist and most “panic” utilities. It’s valid to note that there are another combos you can do using this function, like pre-casting caltrops instead of cloak and dagger or using shadowstep instead of steal. This last one is useful for ranged builds, since you can caltrop + shadowstep in the middle of your target and then shadow return to safety while your enemy is crippled and bleeding. If you use it in conjunction with weapon swap, there’s a lot of interesting stuff you can do.

The only thing that makes backstab Thieves powerful is Assassins Signet.

C&D isn’t particularly hard to land under normal conditions unless you’ve got slower runspeed than your opponent. Either you chase and hit them with it, or they dodge it to force a miss, in which case you weakened them by the loss of that endurance, a viable tradeoff on both sides.
