Just my personal say.
He didn’t post a suggestion.
He just said that thieves’ players are brainless-I-WIN-button spammers.
A thief is a class played with your mind not your fingers. You might say anyone can run in and press 2 buttons and win. I dare them to try that. Sure you might be able to take a few people 1 on 1. That is until they run into people who know how to deal with thieves 1 on 1. We are a spam class most of the time I can’t deny that. If you are condition based you jump around with LDB and if your crit based you spam HS. As all classes you fill dead space with 1 auto attack. But our other skills are situational skills, a cripple and a stealth inducing attack which IMO doesn’t work correctly all of the time and if it misses that’s a lot of initiative wasted.
“To power their attacks, thieves rely on a resource called initiative, which regenerates over time. Weapon skills cost initiative points, but they have no recharge time, so thieves can use them back-to-back. This allows thieves to stay flexible and responsive in combat and unleash a rapid flurry of powerful attacks. "
Taken right from the website under Initiative. We are a bust class by design, one who uses surprise and chaos (random stealth moves, blinds, and shadowsteps) to our advantage. There is no dueling in this game for a reason. Not every class is balanced so every other class can still kill it 1 on 1. Thieves are good at 1v1, but its not like we could ever take on a elementalist at nuking down an area. Or a mesmer’s ability to hide in plain sight with their illusions. Every class has its strenghts and to expect everyone to be able to counter those strengths would make having those strengths pointless in the first place.
Umberage of Death – Thief
~~~Sanctum of Rall~~~
I don’t spam any button when playing Thief.
And i get flamed by butthurt players i killed for only using 2 buttons and spamming HS when i didn’t even used HS once to kill them, but pretty much every other skill my bar has to offer.
It just got a bandwagon thing. Baddie gets killed by a Thief because he played bad, remembers he heard that Thiefes would be OP from other baddies, and instead of looking into his mistakes and what he could have done better, he jumps on the bandwagon too, flaming “Thief OP”, which other baddies hear, and it continues to spread.
I’m not looking at you OP, but it could be the case here too.
“A)Turn him into a nice pink Chocobo(I just like calling them that) and face roll my keyboard”
As long as you can “Faceroll” Thieves, i don’t really see the problem honestly.
But if you really get killed by a Thief who only uses 2 buttons, then you are simply playing horrible.
The Thief profession doesn’t has a lot of fancy effects (which is good for that kind of class), so i think people not playing Thief just think “they killed me easy with only using 2 skills”, while the Thief actually played very well and with much effort, using everything he has (which looked like he did only one thing).
Yes, there are spam builds, but honestly, they are bad.
Spam Thieves are bad players, and the people loosing versus them even worse ones.
Sorry, I’m confused. You said yourself that you can cast a single ability on the thief and then just face-roll to kill him. But you’re complaining that the thief is too easy to succeed as? Please link me to your post on the mesmer forums complaining that mesmer is too easy to succeed with.
It seems there are a few people around here who only post on the forum to try to get thief nerfed, and don’t contribute anywhere else… Thief is a mysterious class. You don’t quite understand how they work. That’s fine, you’ll learn over time. I don’t fully know how much of the engineer class works yet, but if one dominates me and all I notice is that they have a bunch of turrets up, that doesn’t mean that all the engineer has to do to win is put up a turret, and it certainly doesn’t mean that I have to try to get engineers nerfed.
Kinda long I’m just posting what I’ve noticed on my end if you collected any information to see any of my errors please input is welcomed.
First of all, Before anyone goes “Hey just butthurt or he just baddie, ect ect…” I’m just going to say I’m not a thief player. Nor do I pretend like I know everything about them. But I can say one thing as playing as a mesmer as long as I have. A thief is literally, and I mean literally the ONLY class I’ve seen that’s been able to actually been able to burst me.
Mind you not every thief I have encountered has got the best of me. But the only time I’ve died is in this order of skill.
Double Strike>Wild Strike> Heart Seeker> so forth.So far the only actual wave I’ve managed to kill a thief is
A)Turn him into a nice pink Chocobo(I just like calling them that) and face roll my keyboard
B)Apply never ending dazes. <- It worked for a brief moment
C) Say hell with it and just use a ballistic from a tower.I’m not saying they are OP, Hell as a mesmer I’m one of the most annoying things in wvw to encounter. However when I compare a thief to almost any other class, I see the only effort I see is on my 1, 2 button. As oppose to some other classes where I would see them throw everything they got at me their helmet if they could.
Reading and reading I see people say about glass cannon thief crit hurts, and they squishy as hell.
Well if I’m not mistaken, they wear M.Armor not light armor. Which isn’t much more but if we did the math on the side, I’m sure they would have more def then me.
Again I just don’t see the effort in using a thief.
I RESPECT the thief players out there, not going to hate on none of you,….but I can’t respect the class.
Pro-tip: you might wanna change your build in order to counter some specific builds, you’re not supposed to be a God or something after choosing your traits.
Sidenote: a glass cannon thief has ~15k hp, you should be able to burn that much with 2-3 illusions OR if he’s spamming HS on you…retaliation.
i’m guessing your hp is more than 20k, am i Right?
Sidenote #2: using dodge-roll might help.
There is no dueling in this game for a reason.
Are you trying to say that they didn’t implement duels because of (supposed) imbalance? Because that’s wrong on so many levels.
1) Duels are for fun and even heavy imbalance in certain matchups it’s not a reason enough to purposefully discard them. See WoW, for example.
2) This game has actually the best balance I’ve ever seen when it comes to duels. I’ve succesfully defeated every class (against decent players) with both my guardian and my engineer. My friend did the same with his mesmer and his ranger. Certain classes might be more resilient to certain builds ( i.e. Necros vs condition dmg builds ) but it’s nothing unsurmountable.
3) Thieves defining trait is their single target burst capabilities. They are not in any way shape or form the dominant duelists of the game, as you are implying.
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”
does any other class have a setup that can insta gib another player if they’re stunbreak is on cooldown?
oh wait warriors do that’s right.
you actually think thief damage on pistol whip is balanced because it’s dodgeable/avoidable… so what your saying is, nobody should ever blow a stunbreak, or even dodgeroll ever in any spvp fight JUST INCASE a thief happens to walk into the fight? That reasoning is just not sound. Nobody should have to set up their utilities for the sole purpose of dealing with one specific class. I take 3 stunbreaks for utilities in my build, ontop of another oh @#$% button in my weapon bar. And nothing is more frustrating than fighting somebody on a node, winning the 1v1, and then as soon as your health starts to regen, you get insta gibbed from stealth, with no hope to even fight back, bc you used cooldowns on the previous fight.
don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying thief’s are too powerful, or anything. i just think the damage on pistol whip is too much. that’s it. tone it back like 5-10% and i’m a happy player. If it were a bit lower, squishier targets could at least have some kind of chance at out-playing the thief. but the damage, as it is now, prevents any retaliation if your caught with your pants down.
not raging or calling anybody out or anything, just giving my 2 cents.
And nothing is more frustrating than fighting somebody on a node, winning the 1v1, and then as soon as your health starts to regen, you get insta gibbed from stealth, with no hope to even fight back, bc you used cooldowns on the previous fight.
That’s precisely the kind of situation the thief was designed for. We’re meant to prey on the weak, to attack from the shadows, and to have high burst damage but low survivability so that we jump in, do a bunch of damage, and hide. And all of these things are obtained in the current game balance.
Besides, the damage on pistol whip isn’t even that high compared to a lot of other abilities. It hits a lot of times, but each hit is really small. If you get out as soon as the stun ends naturally, you’re not going to take much damage at all from the pistol whip ability. What you REALLY have an issue with, I think, is haste. Haste is the one ability that makes pistol whip worth being used. It only lasts a couple seconds, but it significantly speeds up the sluggish animations of pistol whip, allowing much of the damage to coincide with the stun instead of following it. And you know what else haste does? It prevents the thief from dodging at all for a decent amount of time. Work with that!
