Nice video man. Thats a nice setup you got going there. There is one problem with the video though. It is clearly fake since you did so much damage and survived so well without stealth.

On a serious note, I just started using S/D and have been having a ball with it. I keep my krutch D/P with me though because I need to kitten out sometimes and perma stealth out of the area lol. I will work my way back to SB off though. I play too many classes to jump right into it. Keep the videos coming.

Quick question, first battle , yiu cast basilisk venom and get like 8 Boons. It’s similar to that steal item yiu get but yiu didn’t use that. Is this a certain trait that allows this? 500 hours in (350 on thief) and I still learn something.

I’m going to start this off by saying that you’re obviously a good player, and the below isn’t a personal attack.

That being said, what’s so impressive about this? As far as I can tell, this is what happens when you take a giant open space and fight in the middle of it rather than being forced to fight around objectives. Teleporting around a giant map where your escape vector is “any direction away from my opponent” rather than limited by map design and overall small size seems like common sense. The fact that you don’t have some point where you “have to be” (IE, a capture point) means your free to engage and disengage at will. The people chasing you (rather than splitting up between where you are and where your return circle is) are just wasting their time. There’s no penalty associated with spending 20s out of every minute running away so as to let your skills Cool down.

What it boils down to is you’re baiting people. They’re more interested in “not letting you get away” then playing intelligently. Like I said earlier, you’re clearly good at it, but it seems like anything a competent PvP S/D thief could pick up in an hour.

If you’re a thief and haven’t

I’m not trying to bash anyone’s moment – Like I repeatedly said, OP is obviously a good player. Doesn’t mean its impressive however. Didn’t say the video sucked, or OP shouldn’t have posted it…I’m just not particularly impressed.

Also, my point of bringing up PvP wasn’t to insinuate PvP > WvW or anything like that, just that some skills go from balanced and fun to silly when you remove the restraints of PvP – IS/SR are powerful skills in PvP… they’re apparently kittening hilarious in WvW.

I don’t understand the indirect attack on the op. I understand you say you are not attacking him but in reality you are. He never tried to promote a build for spvp or tpvp. It was clearly a fun video of him trolling some people in wvw. I really don’t understand the point of your post. We all know that wvw and pvp are 2 different things and all builds don’t give mirrored results in one another.

Op keep the videos coming. It was very entertaining.

What is this, the daytime Emmy’s? Does everything automatically deserve a little round of applause? Why are you assuming OP only wanted 100% positive responses, and nothing else? I’m going to operate under the assumption he wanted some exposure, and some opinions.

My opinion is he has a good grip on the class, but the video remains unimpressive. Note that “unimpressive” isn’t “You suck go home”. It’s “Meh, this isn’t anything special” – if “It was average” is now considered an insult, I don’t know what to tell you. On top of that, I made it a point to compliment the OP’s skill to make it completely clear it wasn’t a putdown, and you still managed to misinterpret. S/D is very powerful outside of small PvP maps, even more so when people focus too hard on killing you, and less so on playing intelligently – a video showcasing is only a few steps above a thief posting WvW Backstab ganks IMO.

I have to agree with evilapprentice though, his post was in no means an attack on the OP. Most of the enemies were just going for the kills instead of actively working as a team. The OP and his buddy didn’t even had to co-operate in most fights (you notice the thief would pick different targets on purpose to not steal a kill). Even if two of them coordinated it would’ve dealt the OP a lot more damage (he didn’t receive much damage at all during the 2nd last battle).

I think most hate went to the ele because he was probably more visible. The enemies should’ve thought it through like the OP did in one of the earlier fights: “Focusing fire on the thief because of his damage output”. We didn’t get to see much of the ele’s fighting, but I assume, based on his health management and the fact that the necro he was fighting at a certain moment didn’t die quickly, that he was bunkering more. The fight just above the southern camp took long enough for ppl to realize that fighting that ele was a waste of time while there is a thief running around taking ppl out.

When I play, I always make sure I have a wingman with whom I can work with. Especially an elusive thief we’d make sure we walk close to each other so we can react once the thief attacks.

One more note I made while watching:
3.37: You state that the ranger was a kitten because he fled. That they only fight if they outnumber you. However if seen from his perspective, he’d see a roaming thief and ele together while there was no one to back him up .. Of course he ran.

My point was that the ranger fled from the confrontation because he was outnumbered two to one, whereas we would have stayed to fight if it was the other way around. I’m not saying all Yaks do that, but more than half of the ones we’ve been encountering in YB BL don’t like to fight unless they have at least one more guy in their group than you.

Thieves and ele’s are amongst the best classes to roam with because they actually can make a good fight against multiple targets (as you could see in your vid)
Rangers on the other hand aren’t. If it’s a 1v1 it could’ve been possible to win. But a 1v2 against a thief and ele would be a very hard fight.

Outnumbering with 1 more person in a 1v2 isn’t the same as a 2v3 or more. I’m not questioning your statement that a lot of ppl would run if they are outnumbered (quantity does a lot ‘till a certain limit, which is when we start talking about zergs), but that moment wasn’t rly representable.

I think your issue is more with wvw roaming, as a playstyle…as in what’s the point? Rather than a criticism of the OP, or the build. I think that’s fine, it is kind of just random killing for fun…kind of like pve, but more challenging. There are also objectives in wvw, and a build/playstyle like this can be used in furtherance of those objectives.

For example, one might use it in order to peel off parts of a huge group (aka zerg) of players attacking a keep. Harrass a few, get 5-10 to split off and follow you, meanwhile your team whipes up the disorganized group…It’s a playstyle that works well for thieves in general in wvw. Of course, disciplined wvw groups will stay together, but there are always a few random people in there who can be distracted and lured away.

Also, while roaming itself may seem pointless, it does help keep players from catching up to the bigger groups, so it can help the whole server to have a few good roamers out there, even if they aren’t machine-gun killing enemies…just tying them up is almost as good.

So back to that question; whats so impressive about teleporting around an open space and using your superior mobility to fluster and harrass the enemy? Just compare it to the current meta – using infinite cloaks to fluster and harrass the enemy…it is riskier, and more interesting. It will help create variety, and give Arenanet a new direction to wave that nerf stick.

Just one thing.

Keep your personal opinions out of the video. Because I’ll say, I liked the combat. I liked that you play a S/D in a world where most people run D/D or D/P. I liked that you played an evade heavy build, rather than a stealth-heavy one.

However, you went there. You called some random person out because they ran from you. You and your partner. You play a Thief, one of the better 1v1 classes already and you put someone down because they did not want to do a 1v2 against you and your partner.

Of any class, thieves should understand the logic of escaping a fight you won’t win.

As someone stated, he’s using Runes of Lyssa.
Educated guess is that He’s using Valkyrie armors w/ Toughness/power/precision and zerker acessories. Giving him the benefit of the doubt that he has some form of toughness since he DID take a backstab pretty well. The fact that he’s critting almost everytime shouts that he’s got some high precision and some fairly nice crit dmg. Probably using plate of Truffle steak. Either sharpening stone or maintenance oil for nourishments.

10 deadly arts [mug]
25 critical strike [side strike] [practiced tolerance]
0 shadow
20 acrobatics [vigorous recovery] [Asassin’s Reward]
15 trickery [flanking strikes]

either 25 critical/ 20 acrobatics, or 20 critical and 25 acrobatics.

You’re welcome.

Nice video though, as a sword user there really isn’t anything impressive but good intuition and usage of larc. strikes. I felt like the video needed a dynamic try hard player mode.

The only reason I included the camp capture and personal remarks is because I was determined to make the video as realistic as possible. I’ve been criticized before for showing only the kills, so this time I recorded everything from the moment I entered the BL, minus the walking, even if it wasn’t super exciting. I named the video based on what the other 75% of it is about. Sadly, a lot of people seem to just stop watching the video after the first few minutes since it doesn’t start off being very interesting.

I’m thankful that you pointed out something quite true about the start of the video and how it made you not want to keep watching. I just changed it to begin at the Zerg encounter. But meanwhile, you should hop off whatever phallic object you’ve been sitting on because you could have easily worded it in a less offensive way.
